If I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what would you say? Animation In Email Marketing
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online businesses today, email advertising has been Dominated by the identical big players for the last ten years. Which means that they get promoted very heavily and achieve a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, causing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So today, in this review, I’ll be ripping MailerLite from limb To limb to see whether it really stands its own ground against the big boys…
…and, more importantly, whether youshould consider making the switch.

Like most email advertising providers these days, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information like your organization name, website, Industry, address, company size, list size and even the kind of content you intend to send.
Then, You Have to confirm your Website (or domain name).
This is still part of this approval process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is related to that domain so they can email you a confirmation link.
As Soon as You’ve completed these Measures, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, check your Website, and ascertain whether you are a good match for their service.
(In other words, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and play with the features, but you will not be able to send anything before approved.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
However, while these steps aren’t ideal for getting started, it Does help stop unscrupulous users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to handle Nearly all your email marketing.
(We will get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But if it is a new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more instant email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Create Campaign’ will give you several choices.
– Regular effort: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Versions, such as subject line, from name and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Do not open your broadcast email, together with the option of changing the subject line and email content.
– RSS campaign: Produce a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to readers using your site’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few additional choices, most of these will follow Exactly the same step-by-step procedure of a standard campaign.
So let’s walk you through it.
As Soon as You click to create your campaign, you’ll be requested to Select a preferred editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can switch to the Templates tab and select from one of the pre-designed email templates — that will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
At the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to choose From which is somewhat on the low side, however, the designs are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you’d just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I will choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Making viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the blocks in the sidebar to add different Kinds of content to your email, including videos, product columns, and social links.
After making your changes, simply click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be carried to the recipients’ choices where you can select your classes or segments.
The advanced tab also allows you To build segment-like rules on-the-fly, in the event your targeting isn’t quite right.
Finally, right before sending, then you’ll get into the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, if that is instantly, at a set time/date, or according to your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Animation In Email Marketing
Managing Your Subscribers
Having granular control over your readers is arguably one of The most essential facets of any email marketing software now.
Because highly personalized efforts Are Essential if You’re looking to increase clicks, opens, and, most importantly, your conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”label” subscribers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different approach.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll see two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your readers belong to a segment only when they meet the Specified rules, and are automatically added or removed so.
Here is what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even blend Principles, as well as an alternate rule when the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for classes, and also the difference in title, These behave much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or through an Automation rule — that we’ll get to in a minute — and they have no value aside from what you call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand Where Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in case you’re unsure:
Fundamentally, groups are much more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments permit you to bulge multiple contributors collectively according to a common denominator.
A tad confusing, I’ll admit… but I believe it’s a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. Besides, they are optional.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own areas, such as name, business, and country.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your subscribers together with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or can simply add these fields to a types which will only apply to prospective readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I made and added into a form:
I won’t go too much into the shape Things here since I have a whole section on that below, but this is the approach I’d recommend if you wanted to use this attribute.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field data from new Readers, you are able to pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Customized field.
I’m barely scratching the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it is important to know that this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it is fair to say MailerLite has their contributor Direction and personalization features on point. Animation In Email Marketing
If you are not impressed by what you have seen so far, then maybe The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, then you’ll be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, it will offer a fantastic base to work from if, like the majority of us, you don’t have that pure eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, though They ultimately do the same task; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or change your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual site builders, and it is already better than a few dedicated solutions *cough* WPBakery.
Together with the basic building blocks, you can use elements like Hero sections, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
No, it will not be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all three kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite really offers a Decent pair of form building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there’s a lot to cover .
Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then put on your website to display it on particular pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer lets you To personalize everything from the kind style, fields, background, name, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which Provides you a Opportunity To envision your own backup in real time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there is more to a form than just its appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure the way the Form functions, including adding extra fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And talking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, That can replace the embedded kind also prevents users .
Last but certainly not least, you Can check the way your form displays on cellular by switching the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any design changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that’s an overview of this Embedded form but like I said before, you can also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the setup Procedure is identical, there are A few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth selection, they do provide a fantastic base to work from and the editor is at least as easy to use with this form type.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template takes me into a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new choices under form types This time around:
Contemplating paid programs such as Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to see this level of control over popup forms.
And, like before, you can perform the styling options to get it Matched with your branding.
Last, you can choose the near Behaviour of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have .
That is really where most email Marketing platforms would render you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click info, Subscriber development, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you specific reporting for that effort.
This is where you’ll discover some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying surroundings, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into individual areas of the report to get a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Email’ tab also shows a click map, so It’s possible to see precisely how your readers interacted with your mails compared to another.
Reports for automations are Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, even though I found to be less enlightening than effort reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and most will get the available data more than sufficient to meet their demands.
What is email advertising without a dash of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this particular review.
The great news? If you’ve ever used a visual workflow builder, You’ll immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something which certainly can not be said for each and every email advertising software.
After establishing your trigger, you can Start adding steps to your workflow.
These measures could be anything from sending an email, including a Delay, a bubble break, or an act, such as transferring a contributor or upgrading their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I set together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities in regards to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional elements. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s currently no automation for transferring Subscribers directly into a different automation.
That being said, the Majority of these actions can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that trigger new automation workflows. It’s simply much less efficient…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when creating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After having an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to add your topic line which then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the review.
This time, however, once you’ve established your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back into the automations workflow instead of the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email will probably be Loaded into your automation.
A nice touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation cube, so you can find an concept of what it contains at a glance.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is really much faster than what I’m used to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, you will probably find this a downgrade in performance.
It is quick enough for me, Personally, but I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there’s one Kind of automation You will not find in MailerLite, also that I think it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or step) based on how Readers interact with the pages on your site.
This Sort of behavioral targeting just is not accessible MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or plan to utilize, you might want to skip this one. Animation In Email Marketing
The Price of MailerLite is among those tools largest Selling points, and let’s face it, most of us love a fantastic bargain.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All features (including premium) for as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding on your emails using this program, it’s still an wonderful alternative for those starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It turns out, at around half of the Cost of the rivalry on average, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the cheapest options available on the market. Additionally, if you are ready to pay yearly, you can also get a much greater discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to find anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of those very few email marketing tools to disrupt The (very crowded) sector in recent years, and that’s no easy feat.
While it is not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and at a price point you will seriously struggle to beat.
Thinking about giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you In the comments. Animation In Email Marketing
