When I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what could you say? Ecampaignpro
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online industries now, email advertising continues to be Dominated by the same big players for the last ten years. Which means they get encouraged very deeply and achieve a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, causing long-time users to question their loyalties.

Like most email marketing providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the program.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information such as your organization name, website, Industry, address, business size, list size and even the type of material you plan to send.
Then, you need to confirm your Website (or domain name).
This is still part of this acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is related to that domain so they can email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed these Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, check your Website, and ascertain whether you’re a good fit for their services.
(Quite simply, they are making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to use the software to create campaigns and play with the features, but you will not have the ability to send anything until accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
However, while these measures are not perfect for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to handle The majority of your email marketing.
(We will get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But whether it’s a new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more instant email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Produce Campaign’ will give you several choices.
– Regular campaign: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Variations, including subject line, from title and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Do not open your broadcast email, with the option of altering the subject line and email content.
– RSS effort: Create a recurring campaign That sends new content to readers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few additional choices, the Majority of these will follow The same step-by-step process of a normal effort.
So let us walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your campaign, you’ll be requested to Select a preferred editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can change to the Templates tab and select from among the pre-designed email templates — that will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
At the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to choose From which is a little on the low side, but the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you would just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I will choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to add different Types of content to your email, such as videos, product columns, and social connections.
After making your changes, just click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be taken to the recipients’ options where you can choose your groups or segments.
The tab also allows one To develop segment-like rules on-the-fly, in the event your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, you’ll get to the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, whether that is immediately, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Ecampaignpro
Managing Your Clients
Having granular control over your readers is arguably among The most essential facets of any email advertising program now.
Because highly personalized campaigns are necessary if You are looking to increase clicks, opens, and, most importantly, your own conversions.
And while most providers Permit You to”label” subscribers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different approach.
When you open up your subscriber dash, you’ll notice two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically rules.
Your readers belong to a segment only when they fulfill the Specified principles, and are automatically added or eliminated so.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice how you can also blend Rules, in addition to another rule when the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for classes, and also the difference in title, These behave much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Unlike Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or via an Automation principle — that we will get into in a minute — and they don’t have any value besides what you call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are generally used, but MailerLite delivers a hand in case you’re unsure:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple subscribers together based on a frequent denominator.
A tad confusing, I’ll admit… but I feel it’s a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. Besides, they’re discretionary.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their own fields, such as title, company, and country.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers together with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or may easily add these fields to a forms which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I made and added to a form:
I will not go too much into the form Stuff here because I have an entire section on that below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wanted to use this attribute.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field information from new Subscribers, you are able to pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Customized field.
I’m barely scraping the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it’s important that you know that this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it’s reasonable to state MailerLite has their contributor Direction and personalization features on stage. Ecampaignpro
If you’re not impressed with what you have seen up to Now, then perhaps The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, you will be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Is not winning any awards, but it will offer a fantastic foundation to work from if, like the majority people, you don’t have that pure eye for layout.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, however They all ultimately do the same task; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further build or alter your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual page builders, and this is better than some dedicated solutions *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
No, it won’t be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all three kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite actually offers a Adequate pair of type building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there’s a lot to cover here.
Let’s begin with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then place on your site to display it on specific pages.
Despite beginning super basic, the form designer allows you To personalize everything in the kind style, fields, background, title, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To envision your own copy in real time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there is more to a form than just its appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure how the Form functions, such as adding additional fields and setting a custom success page.
(There is a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success page…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, Which will replace the embedded form also prevents users .
Last but surely not least, you Can check how your form displays on mobile by shifting the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any design changes , but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that is an Summary of this Embedded form but like I said before, you can also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of this installation process is identical, there are A few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive choice, they do provide a good base to work from and the editor is at least as simple to use with this form type.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template requires me to a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new options under form types This time around:
Contemplating paid programs such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this level of control over popup forms.
And, as before, you can play with the styling options to get it Matched up with your own branding.
Finally, you can choose the near Behavior of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text choice, or have .
This is where most email Marketing platforms would leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation analytics, and kind signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you specific coverage for that campaign.
This is where you’ll discover some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary user…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of the report to get a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Email’ tab also shows a click map, so You can see your subscribers interacted to another.
Reports for automations are Available under the’Automations’ tab, although I found these to be less enlightening than effort reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and most will get the available data more than sufficient to fulfill their demands.
What’s email advertising without a dashboard of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this review.
The good news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, then You’ll instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is easy, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for every email advertising software.
After establishing your trigger, you can Start adding steps to your workflow.
These steps can be anything from sending an email, including a Postpone, a conditional split, or an act, such as transferring a subscriber or upgrading their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where readers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are countless Possibilities in regards to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign since it lacks a number of the conditional elements. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.)
For Instance, there’s now no automation for transferring Readers directly into another automation.
That being said, most of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that trigger new automation workflows. It is just not as efficient…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when generating new mails From the automation workflow builder.
After having an email cube to The workflow, you’ll be asked to add your subject line that appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the review.
This time, but once you’ve established your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back into the automations workflow instead of the usual sending alternatives.
Ultimately, your email address will probably be Loaded into your own automation.
A Wonderful touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation block, so you can get an concept of what it contains at a glance.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on newspaper, it’s actually much quicker than what I am utilized to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, you will likely find this a downgrade in functionality.
It’s quick enough for me, Personally, but I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there is one Kind of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and that I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or measure ) based on how Readers interact with the webpages on your site.
This kind of behavioral targeting only is not accessible MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or plan to utilize, you may want to skip this one. Ecampaignpro
The cost of MailerLite is no doubt among those tools largest Selling points, and let’s face it, most of us love a fantastic deal.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) for up to 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding on your mails using this plan, it is still an amazing option for anyone starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It turns out, at around half of the Price of this rivalry on average, MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the cheapest options available on the industry. Plus, if you’re ready to pay yearly, you can also get an even greater discount.
In Reality, I have not been able to locate anything that does the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among the few email advertising tools to disrupt The (very crowded) industry in the last couple of years, which is no easy feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
All in all, I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and at a price point you will seriously struggle to beat.
Thinking about giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you In the remarks. Ecampaignpro
