Intro Effective Email Marketing
When I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what could you say? Effective Email Marketing
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online businesses today, email advertising continues to be Dominated by the identical large players for the last decade. Which means they get promoted very heavily and achieve a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, inducing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.
So today, in this short article, I will be ripping MailerLite from limb To limb to see whether it really stands its ground against the big boys…
…and, more importantly, whether youshould consider making the change.

Like most email marketing providers Nowadays, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the software.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, website, Industry, address, business size, record size and even the type of material you plan to send.
Then, You Have to confirm your Website (or domain name).
This remains part of this acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is associated to that domain in order that they can email you a confirmation link.
Once you’ve completed these Measures, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, check your Site, and determine whether you’re a fantastic match for their service.
(Quite simply, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to use the software to make campaigns and play with the attributes, but you won’t have the ability to send anything until accepted.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these measures are not perfect for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to handle The majority of your email advertising.
(We will get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But whether it’s a brand new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always some excuse to send a more instant email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Produce Campaign’ will provide you several choices.
– Regular effort: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Versions, such as subject line, from title and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Don’t open your broadcast email, with the option of changing the subject line and email articles.
– RSS effort: Create a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to subscribers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added choices, most of these will follow The exact same step-by-step procedure of a standard effort.
So let’s walk you through it.
As Soon as You click to create your campaign, you’ll be asked to Pick a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can change to the Templates tab and select from among the pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
In the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to select From which is a little on the low side, but the designs are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you would just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I’ll choose the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to use, Which makes viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to add different Kinds of articles to your email, including videos, product columns, and societal links.
After making your adjustments, just click’Done Editing’ and you will Be carried to the recipients’ choices where you can select your classes or segments.
The tab also allows you To build segment-like rules , in case your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, right before sending, then you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, if that’s immediately, at a set time/date, or according to your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Effective Email Marketing
Handling Your Clients
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably among The most essential aspects of any email marketing program today.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You are searching to increase opens, clicks, and, most importantly, your own conversions.
And while most providers Permit You to”tag” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different strategy.
When you start up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically rules.
Your readers belong to a segment only when they meet the Specified principles, and are automatically added or removed so.
Here is what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can also combine Rules, in addition to an alternate rule if the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for classes, and also the difference in title, These behave much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Unlike Segments, Groups are updated manually or through an Automation rule — which we will get to in a moment — and they have no value aside from what you call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand Where Segments and Groups are generally used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in the event you’re uncertain:
Basically, groups are more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to bulge multiple contributors together according to a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I’ll admit… but I feel it’s a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. Besides, they are optional.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their particular fields, such as name, business, and nation.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your subscribers along with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or may easily add these fields to a types which will only apply to prospective readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I made and added to a form:
I won’t go too much into the shape Stuff here since I have an entire section on that below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, once you’ve collected your custom field data from fresh Subscribers, you are able to pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I’m barely scraping the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it is important to know this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it’s reasonable to say MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on stage. Effective Email Marketing
If you’re not impressed with what you have seen so far, then maybe The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, then you will be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Is not winning any awards, it will offer a great base to work from if, for example the majority people, you don’t have that pure eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, though They finally do the identical job; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further build or alter your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual page builders, and it is already better than some dedicated alternatives *cough* WPBakery.
Together with the basic building blocks, you can use elements like Hero sections, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
It won’t be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite actually offers a Decent set of type building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there’s a lot to cover here.
Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then put on your website to show it on particular pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer allows you To personalize everything in the kind style, fields, background, name, enter fields and, of course, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which gives you a Opportunity To visualize your copy in real-time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there’s more to some form than simply its appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form works, including adding extra fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And talking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, Which will replace the embedded form and prevents users from redirecting.
Last but certainly not least, you Can assess the way your form screens on cellular by shifting the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t be able to make any design changes , but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that’s an overview of the Embedded form but as I said before, you may also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the installation Procedure is identical, there are Still a few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth choice, they do provide a fantastic base to work from and the editor is just as simple to use with this form type.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template requires me into a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new choices under form types Now around:
Considering paid tools like Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this level of control over popup forms.
And, like before, you can play the styling options to get it Matched with your branding.
Last, you can choose the close Behavior of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text choice, or have .
That is really where most email Marketing platforms would render you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Data in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click info, Subscriber growth, automation analytics, and form signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you specific coverage for this effort.
This is where you’ll find a few more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into individual areas of this report to get a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Email’ tab also shows a click map, so You can see your readers interacted to one another.
Reports for automations will also be Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, even though I found to be less enlightening than campaign reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and most will get the available statistics more than enough to meet their needs.
What is email marketing without a dash of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this review.
The great news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, You’ll immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is easy, clean and simple to navigate — something which certainly can’t be said for each and every email marketing software.
After establishing your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These measures can be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a conditional split, or an action, like moving a contributor or updating their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I set together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they don’t open my email within 7 days.
There are countless Possibilities in regards to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign because it lacks a number of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For example, there’s currently no automation for moving Subscribers directly into a different automation.
That being said, most of these actions can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that activate new automation workflows. It is simply much less effective…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when creating new mails From the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email block to The workflow, you’ll be asked to add your topic line which appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the review.
This time, however, once you’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you straight back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending alternatives.
Finally, your email address will be Loaded into your own automation.
A Wonderful touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation block, which means you can get an idea about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on paper, it is really much quicker than what I am used to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, so you will probably find this a downgrade in performance.
It’s fast enough for me, Personally, however I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there is 1 Kind of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and that I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or measure ) based on how Readers interact with the webpages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting only is not available in MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or plan to utilize, you might want to skip this one. Effective Email Marketing
The Price of MailerLite is one of those tools biggest Selling things, and let us face it, we all love a fantastic deal.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All features (including premium) for as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your emails using this program, it’s still an wonderful option for those starting out.
And what about the top programs?
It turns out, at approximately half of the Price of this rivalry generally, MailerLite is by far among the least expensive options available on the industry. Additionally, if you are ready to pay yearly, you can also get a much better discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to find anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of the email advertising tools to interrupt The (very crowded) sector in the last couple of decades, and that’s no simple feat.
While it’s not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and all at a price point you will seriously struggle to conquer.
Thinking about giving it a spin? Let us know how it works for you From the comments. Effective Email Marketing
