Background Elastic Email
If I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what could you say? Elastic Email
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online businesses today, email marketing has been Dominated by the identical big players for the last ten years. Which means that they get encouraged very deeply and accomplish a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, inducing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So now, in this review, I will be ripping MailerLite from limb To limb to see whether it really stands its ground against the big boys…
…and, what’s more, whether youshould consider making the change.

Like most email advertising providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the program.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, website, Industry, address, business size, list size and even the kind of material you intend to send.
Then, You Have to confirm your Site (or domain ).
This remains part of this approval process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is related to that domain so they can email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed those Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, assess your Site, and determine whether you’re a fantastic match for their service.
(Quite simply, they are making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to make campaigns and play with the features, but you won’t be able to send anything until accepted.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
But while these steps are not perfect for getting started, it Does help stop unscrupulous users from hurting everyone else’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to Deal with Nearly all your email advertising.
(We will get to automations shortly, do not worry.)
But if it is a brand new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Produce Campaign’ will give you several choices.
– Regular campaign: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Versions, such as subject line, from name and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Don’t start your broadcast email, with the choice of changing the subject line and email content.
– RSS campaign: Create a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to subscribers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added options, most of these will follow Exactly the same step-by-step process of a normal effort.
So let’s walk you through it.
As Soon as You click to create your campaign, you’ll be requested to Pick a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can change to the Templates tab and select from one of their pre-designed email templates — which will move you to the dragn’ drop editor .
In the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to select From which is somewhat on the low side, but the designs are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you’d just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I will select the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to use, Which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the blocks in the sidebar to add distinct Types of articles to your email, such as videos, product columns, and societal connections.
After making your changes, simply click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be taken to the recipients’ options where you are able to select your classes or segments.
The tab also allows one To build segment-like rules , in the event your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, if that is immediately, at a set time/date, or according to your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Elastic Email
Handling Your Subscribers
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably among The most important facets of any email advertising program now.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You’re searching to increase clicks, opens, and, above all, your conversions.
And while most providers Permit You to”tag” subscribers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different approach.
When you start up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll see two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially principles.
Your subscribers belong to a section only when they fulfill the Specified principles, and are automatically added or eliminated accordingly.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can also combine Principles, in addition to an alternate rule if the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for groups, and also the difference in name, These act much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Unlike Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or through an Automation rule — which we will get to in a minute — and they don’t have any value aside from what you call them.
As you Begin to use this platform, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are generally used, however, MailerLite offers a hand in the event you’re unsure:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple subscribers collectively based on a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I’ll admit… but I feel it’s a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. Besides, they are discretionary.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their particular areas, such as name, business, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your subscribers along with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or can simply add these fields to your types which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I created and added to a form:
I won’t go too much into the form Stuff here because I have a whole section on that below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wanted to use this attribute.
Again, as Soon as You’ve collected your custom field data from new Readers, you can pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Customized field.
I am barely scratching the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it’s important to understand this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it is fair to say MailerLite has their subscriber Direction and personalization features on stage. Elastic Email
If you’re not impressed with what you’ve seen so far, then maybe The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, then you will be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Is not winning any awards, it will offer a great foundation to work from if, like the majority of us, you don’t have that pure eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, though They ultimately do the same task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further construct or change your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual site builders, and this is already better than some dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Together with the basic building blocks, you can use components like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
It won’t be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually Provides a Adequate pair of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there is a lot to cover .
Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then place on your website to show it on specific pages.
Despite beginning super basic, the form designer lets you To customize everything from the kind style, subjects, background, title, enter fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which Provides you a chance To visualize your backup in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there is more to some form than just its appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure the way the Form works, such as adding extra fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And talking of the success page…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, That can replace the embedded form and prevents users .
Last but surely not least, you Can assess the way your form screens on cellular by shifting the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any design changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that’s an overview of this Embedded form but like I said before, you may even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of the installation process is identical, you will find Still a few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive selection, they do offer a fantastic base to work from and the editor is just as simple to use with this form kind.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template requires me into a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new options under form types This time around:
Contemplating paid tools like Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this amount of control over popup forms.
And, like before, you can play the styling options to get it Matched up with your branding.
Finally, you can choose the near Behaviour of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text choice, or have both.
This is really where most email Marketing platforms would leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Data in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click info, Subscriber development, automation analytics, and form signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you specific reporting for this campaign.
This is where you’ll find some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying surroundings, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary user…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of this report to get a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also displays a click map, so It’s possible to see your subscribers interacted with your mails in relation to another.
Reports for automations are Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, though I found to be less insightful than effort reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and many will get the available statistics more than sufficient to meet their demands.
What’s email advertising with no dashboard of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this review.
The great news? If you’ve used a visual workflow builder, You will immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can not be said for every email advertising software.
After establishing your trigger, you can Start adding steps to your workflow.
These steps could be anything from sending an email, including a Delay, a conditional split, or an act, such as moving a subscriber or upgrading their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I put together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within seven days.
There are innumerable Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign since it lacks a number of the conditional components. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.)
For Instance, there’s now no automation for moving Readers directly into another automation.
That being said, most of these actions can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into various classes that activate new automation workflows. It is simply much less effective…. yet.
Another question of efficacy here is when generating new mails From the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you’ll be asked to put in your topic line which then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the critique.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back into the automations workflow rather than the usual sending alternatives.
Finally, your email will probably be Loaded into your own automation.
A Wonderful touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation block, so it’s possible to find an idea about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it’s actually much faster than what I’m utilized to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, so you’ll probably find that this downgrade in functionality.
It’s quick enough for me, Personally, however I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there’s 1 Kind of automation You will not find in MailerLite, also that I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on the way Subscribers interact with the pages on your website.
This Sort of behavioral targeting just is not available in MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or plan to utilize, you might want to skip this one. Elastic Email
The Price of MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the tools largest Selling things, and let’s face it, most of us love a good bargain.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All features (including premium) for up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your mails using this program, it is still an amazing option for anyone starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It turns out, at approximately half the Price of the rivalry generally, MailerLite is by far one of the least expensive options available on the industry. Plus, if you’re ready to pay yearly, you can also get an even greater discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of those very few email advertising tools to disrupt The (very crowded) industry in the last couple of years, which is no simple feat.
While it’s not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and at a price point you will seriously struggle to conquer.
Thinking of giving it a spin? Let us know how it works for you In the comments. Elastic Email
