Background Email Design Programs
If I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what would you say? Email Design Programs
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online businesses today, email marketing continues to be Dominated by the same large players for the previous ten years. Which means they get encouraged very deeply and achieve a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, inducing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So now, in this review, I’ll be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to find out whether it stands its ground against the big boys…
…and, more importantly, whether youshould consider making the change.

Like most email marketing providers these days, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information such as your organization name, site, Industry, address, company size, list size and even the type of material you intend to send.
Then, You Have to confirm your Website (or domain name).
This is still part of the acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is associated to that domain in order that they can email you a confirmation link.
Once you’ve completed those Steps, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Website, and ascertain whether you are a fantastic fit for their service.
(Quite simply, they are making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and play with the attributes, but you will not have the ability to send anything until approved.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these measures aren’t ideal for getting started, it Does help prevent unscrupulous users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to handle Nearly all your email marketing.
(We will get to automations soon, do not worry.)
But whether it’s a new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always some excuse to send a more instant email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Produce Campaign’ will provide you several options.
– Regular campaign: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Variations, such as subject line, from name and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Do not start your broadcast email, with the choice of changing the subject line and email content.
– RSS effort: Produce a recurring campaign That sends new content to subscribers using your site’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few added choices, the Majority of these will follow The same step-by-step process of a normal campaign.
So let’s walk you through it.
As Soon as You click on to create your campaign, you’ll be asked to Select a favorite editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can switch to the Templates tab and select from one of their pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor .
At the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to select From which is somewhat on the low side, however, the layouts are super modern.
And, of course, if you would just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I’ll select the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Making viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the blocks in the sidebar to add distinct Types of content to your email, such as videos, product columns, and societal connections.
After making your adjustments, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be taken to the recipients’ options where you are able to select your classes or segments.
The advanced tab also allows you To build segment-like rules , in the event your targeting is not quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, you’ll get to the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, whether that is instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Email Design Programs
Handling Your Clients
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably one of The most essential aspects of any email marketing program now.
Because highly personalized efforts Are Essential if You’re searching to increase clicks, opens, and, most importantly, your conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”tag” subscribers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different approach.
When you start up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially principles.
Your subscribers belong to a segment only when they meet the Specified principles, and will be automatically inserted or eliminated accordingly.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can even blend Rules, in addition to another rule when the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for classes, and also the difference in name, These behave much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it.)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or through an Automation principle — that we will get to in a moment — and they have no value aside from what you actually call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, but MailerLite offers a hand in the event you’re uncertain:
Fundamentally, groups are much more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple subscribers collectively based on a frequent denominator.
A tad confusing, I’ll admit… but I believe it’s a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. In any case, they are discretionary.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their particular fields, such as name, company, and nation.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your readers together with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or may simply add these fields to your forms which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I created and added into a form:
I won’t go too much into the form Things here since I have a whole section on that below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wanted to use this feature.
Again, as Soon as You’ve gathered your custom field data from fresh Subscribers, you are able to pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I am barely scratching the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it is important that you know that this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it’s fair to state MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on stage. Email Design Programs
If you are not impressed with what you’ve seen so far, then perhaps The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, you’ll be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, but it will offer a great base to work from if, for example most of us, you don’t have that natural eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, however They finally do the same task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further build or change your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual page builders, and this is already better than some dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Together with the basic building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
It won’t be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all 3 form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite really Provides a Adequate set of form building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there’s a whole lot to cover here.
Let us begin with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then put on your site to show it on specific pages.
Despite starting off super fundamental, the form designer allows you To personalize everything in the kind style, fields, background, name, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To visualize your copy in real time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there is more to some form than just its physical appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form works, such as adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And talking of the success page…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, Which can replace the embedded form and prevents users from redirecting.
Last but certainly not least, you Can check the way your form displays on cellular by switching the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t be able to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of the Embedded form but like I said before, you may also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the installation process is identical, there are A few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive choice, they do offer a fantastic base to work from and the editor is at least as easy to use with this form type.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template requires me into a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new choices under form types This time around:
Considering paid tools like Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup types.
And, as before, you can perform the styling options to get it Matched up with your own branding.
Finally, you can choose the close Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
That is where most email Marketing platforms will leave you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special reporting for this campaign.
This is where you’ll find a few more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying surroundings, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary user…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of this report to get a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
For example, the’View Email’ tab also shows a click map, so You can see how your subscribers interacted with your mails in relation to one another.
Reports for automations will also be Available under the’Automations’ tab, although I found to be less enlightening than campaign reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and many will find the available statistics more than enough to fulfill their demands.
What is email marketing with no dashboard of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this review.
The great news? If you have used a visual workflow builder, You’ll instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is easy, clean and simple to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for each and every email marketing software.
After establishing your trigger, you can Start adding steps to your workflow.
These steps could be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a bubble break, or an act, such as transferring a contributor or upgrading their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they do not open my email within seven days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign since it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.)
For Instance, there’s now no automation for moving Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, the Majority of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various classes that activate new automation workflows. It’s simply much less effective…. yet.
Another matter of efficiency here is when generating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After having an email cube to The workflow, you’ll be asked to add your topic line which then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the review.
This time, however, once you’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you back into the automations workflow instead of the usual sending alternatives.
Ultimately, your email address will be Loaded into your automation.
A nice touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation cube, which means you can find an idea about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on paper, it’s really much quicker than what I’m used to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, you will probably find this a downgrade in functionality.
It is fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there’s 1 type of automation You will not find in MailerLite, and I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on how Readers interact with the webpages on your site.
This kind of behavioral targeting just is not accessible MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or intend to utilize, you might want to skip this one. Email Design Programs
The Price of MailerLite is no doubt one of the tools biggest Selling points, and let’s face it, most of us love a good deal.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All features (including premium) for up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding on your mails using this plan, it’s still an wonderful alternative for those starting out.
And what about the top programs?
It ends up, at approximately half the Price of the competition generally, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the cheapest options available on the industry. Additionally, if you’re ready to pay annually, you can also get an even greater discount.
In Reality, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of the very few email marketing tools The (very crowded) sector in the last couple of decades, which is no simple feat.
While it’s not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and at a price point you will seriously struggle to conquer.
