Intro Email Marketing Activities
If I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what could you say? Email Marketing Activities
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online industries now, email marketing has been Dominated by the identical large players for the previous ten years. Which means they get promoted very heavily and accomplish a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, inducing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So now, in this review, I will be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to find out if it stands its ground against the big boys…
…and, more importantly, whether youshould consider making the switch.

Like most email marketing providers these days, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the software.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information like your organization name, website, Business, address, business size, list size and even the type of material you plan to send.
Then, you need to confirm your Website (or domain name).
This remains part of the approval process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is related to that domain so they can email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed these Steps, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, assess your Site, and ascertain whether you are a good fit for their service.
(In other words, they’re making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to use the software to create campaigns and play with the attributes, but you will not have the ability to send anything until approved.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
However, while these measures are not perfect for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from damaging everybody’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to handle Nearly all your email marketing.
(We’ll get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But whether it is a new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always some excuse to send a more instant email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Create Campaign’ will provide you several choices.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Versions, such as subject line, from name and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not open your broadcast email, with the choice of changing the subject line and email articles.
– RSS campaign: Produce a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to subscribers using your site’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few added choices, the Majority of these will follow Exactly the same step-by-step procedure of a normal campaign.
So let’s walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your campaign, you’ll be requested to Pick a preferred editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can change to the Templates tab and choose from among the pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
In the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to select From which is a little on the low side, but the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you would just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I’ll select the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to include distinct Types of articles to your email, including videos, product columns, and social connections.
After making your adjustments, simply click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be taken to the recipients’ options where you can choose your groups or sections.
The tab also allows you To build segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting is not quite right.
Finally, before sending, you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, if that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or according to your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Email Marketing Activities
Managing Your Clients
Having granular control over your readers is arguably one of The most essential facets of any email advertising program now.
Because highly personalized campaigns Are Essential if You are looking to increase clicks, opens, and, most importantly, your conversions.
And while most providers allow you to”tag” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different approach.
When you start up your subscriber dash, you’ll see two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically rules.
Your subscribers belong to a segment only when they meet the Specified rules, and are automatically inserted or eliminated so.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even combine Rules, in addition to another rule if the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for groups, and also the difference in name, These act much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but finally decided against it.)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or via an Automation rule — which we will get into in a minute — and they have no value besides what you call them.
As you Begin to use this platform, you’ll Start to understand Where Segments and Groups are generally used, but MailerLite delivers a hand in the event you’re uncertain:
Basically, groups are more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to bulge multiple subscribers together according to a frequent denominator.
A tad confusing, I’ll admit… but I believe it is a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. Besides, they’re optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their particular areas, such as name, company, and nation.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers together with Your custom field information in separate columns… or may simply add these fields to a forms which will only apply to future subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I made and added to a form:
I will not go too much into the form Things here because I have an entire section on this below, but this is the strategy I would recommend if you wanted to use this attribute.
Again, as Soon as You’ve gathered your custom field information from new Subscribers, you are able to pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Customized field.
I’m barely scraping the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it is important to know that this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it’s fair to state MailerLite has their contributor Direction and personalization features on stage. Email Marketing Activities
If you’re not impressed with what you have seen up to Now, then maybe The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, you’ll be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, it does offer a great foundation to work from if, for example most people, you do not have that natural eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, however They all finally do the same job; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further construct or change your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual site builders, and it is better than a few dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Together with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
It won’t be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all three form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually Provides a Decent set of type building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there’s a whole lot to cover here.
Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then place on your website to show it on particular pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer allows you To personalize everything from the kind style, fields, background, title, enter fields and, of course, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To visualize your backup in real-time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there is more to some form than just its physical appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure how the Form works, such as adding additional fields and setting a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And talking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, Which can replace the embedded form and prevents users .
Last but surely not least, you Can check how your form displays on mobile by switching the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of the Embedded form but as I said before, you can also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the installation Procedure is identical, you will find A few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth choice, they do offer a good base to work from and the editor is just as simple to use for this form kind.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template takes me into a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new options under form types This time around:
Contemplating paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup forms.
And, as before, you can play the styling options to get it Matched up with your own branding.
Finally, you can Select the close Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have .
This is really where most email Marketing platforms would render you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click info, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you special coverage for this effort.
This is where you’ll discover a few more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying surroundings, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary consumer…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of this report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Email’ tab also displays a click map, so It’s possible to see how your readers interacted to another.
Reports for automations will also be Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, though I found to be less enlightening than campaign reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and many will find the available statistics more than sufficient to meet their needs.
What’s email advertising without a dash of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this review.
The great news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, You’ll immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something which certainly can’t be said for every email advertising program.
After establishing your trigger, you can Start adding steps to your workflow.
These measures could be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a conditional split, or an act, like transferring a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they do not open my email within seven days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite ought to not have any trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign since it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.. )
For example, there’s currently no automation for moving Subscribers directly into a different automation.
That being said, the Majority of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various classes that trigger new automation workflows. It is simply much less effective…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when generating new emails From the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your subject line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the critique.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve created your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you straight back into the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Finally, your email address will be Loaded into your own automation.
A Wonderful touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation block, so you can get an idea of what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is really much quicker than what I’m used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, so you’ll probably find that this downgrade in performance.
It is fast enough for me, Personally, however I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there’s 1 type of automation You will not find in MailerLite, also I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or step) based on the way Readers interact with the webpages on your site.
This Sort of behavioral targeting only isn’t accessible MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or intend to use, you may want to skip this one. Email Marketing Activities
The Price of MailerLite is no doubt among those tools largest Selling things, and let’s face it, most of us love a good deal.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) for up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your emails using this plan, it’s still an wonderful alternative for anyone starting out.
And what about the top programs?
It ends up, at around half of the Price of this rivalry on average, MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the least expensive options on the market. Plus, if you’re willing to pay yearly, you are also able to get an even better discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among the few advertising tools to interrupt The (very crowded) industry in recent decades, which is no simple feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and at a price point you will seriously struggle to beat.
Thinking of giving it a spin? Let us know how it works for you In the remarks. Email Marketing Activities
