Background Email Marketing Analytics
If I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what would you say? Email Marketing Analytics
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online industries now, email marketing has been Dominated by the same large players for the last decade. Which means they get encouraged very deeply and accomplish a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, causing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.
So now, in this review, I’ll be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to see if it stands its own ground against the big boys…
…and, more importantly, whether youshould consider making the switch.

Like most email marketing providers Nowadays, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the software.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information like your organization name, website, Business, address, business size, list size and also the type of material you intend to send.
Then, you need to verify your Website (or domain name).
This is still part of the approval process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is associated to this domain so they could email you a confirmation link.
Once you’ve completed these Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Site, and ascertain whether you are a good match for their services.
(Quite simply, they’re making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to use the software to create campaigns and play with the attributes, but you will not be able to send anything before accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
However, while these measures are not ideal for getting started, it Does help prevent malicious users from damaging everyone else’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to handle The majority of your email marketing.
(We’ll get to automations soon, do not worry.)
But if it is a brand new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Create Campaign’ will provide you several options.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Variations, such as subject line, from title and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Don’t start your broadcast email, together with the choice of changing the subject line and email articles.
– RSS effort: Create a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to subscribers using your site’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few added options, the Majority of these will follow The same step-by-step process of a normal effort.
So let us walk you through it.
Once you click to create your effort, you’ll be asked to Select a preferred editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can switch to the Templates tab and choose from among their pre-designed email templates — which will move you to the dragn’ drop editor by default.
In the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to choose From which is a little on the low side, but the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you’d just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I will select the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to use, Which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the cubes in the sidebar to include distinct Types of articles to your email, such as videos, product columns, and societal connections.
After making your changes, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be carried to the recipients’ choices where you are able to select your groups or sections.
The tab also allows you To build segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting isn’t quite right.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, whether that is immediately, at a set time/date, or according to your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Email Marketing Analytics
Managing Your Clients
Possessing granular control over your subscribers is arguably one of The most important facets of any email marketing program today.
Because highly personalized campaigns Are Essential if You are searching to increase clicks, opens, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”tag” readers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different approach.
When you open up your subscriber dash, you’ll see two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically rules.
Your readers belong to a segment only when they meet the Specified principles, and will be automatically inserted or eliminated accordingly.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even combine Principles, as well as another rule if the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for classes, and also the difference in name, These behave much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it.)
Unlike Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation rule — which we will get to in a moment — and they don’t have any value besides what you actually call them.
As you start to use this platform, you’ll begin to understand Where Segments and Groups are typically used, but MailerLite delivers a hand in the event you’re uncertain:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple subscribers together according to a frequent denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I will admit… but I feel it’s a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. Besides, they are discretionary.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own fields, such as name, business, and nation.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers along with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or may simply add these fields to your forms which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I created and added into a form:
I will not go too much to the form Stuff here because I have a whole section on that below, but this is the approach I would recommend if you wanted to use this attribute.
Again, as Soon as You’ve collected your custom field data from fresh Subscribers, you can pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I’m barely scraping the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it is important that you understand this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it’s fair to state MailerLite has their subscriber Direction and personalization features on stage. Email Marketing Analytics
If you are not impressed with what you have seen so far, then maybe The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, then you’ll be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Isn’t winning any awards, but it does offer a fantastic base to work from if, like the majority of us, you don’t have that pure eye for design.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, however They ultimately do the same task; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further construct or change your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual page builders, and it is already better than a few dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Along with the fundamental building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
It will not be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite really Provides a Decent set of type building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there is a lot to cover .
Let’s start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then put on your site to display it on particular pages.
Despite starting off super fundamental, the form designer lets you To personalize everything from the kind style, fields, background, title, input fields and, of course, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which gives you a Opportunity To envision your own backup in real time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there is more to a form than simply its physical appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure the way the Form functions, such as adding extra fields and setting a custom success page.
(There is a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success page…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, Which can replace the embedded form also prevents users from redirecting.
Last but certainly not least, you Can check how your form displays on mobile by switching the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t be able to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of this Embedded form but like I said before, you may even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of this installation Procedure is identical, you will find A few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth selection, they do provide a fantastic foundation to work from and the editor is just as easy to use for this form kind.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template takes me to a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new options under form types Now around:
Considering paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to see this amount of control over popup forms.
And, as before, you can play the styling options to get it Matched up with your branding.
Finally, you can Select the close Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text choice, or have both.
That is really where most email Marketing platforms will render you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click info, Subscriber development, automation analytics, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you specific coverage for this campaign.
This is where you’ll find some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of the report to get a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also shows a click map, so You can see exactly how your subscribers interacted with your mails compared to one another.
Reports for automations are also Available under the’Automations’ tab, even although I found these to be less insightful than campaign reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and many will get the available statistics more than enough to fulfill their needs.
What’s email advertising with no dash of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this review.
The good news? If you have used a visual workflow builder, You’ll instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is easy, clean and easy to navigate — something which certainly can’t be said for every email advertising software.
After setting your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These measures can be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a bubble break, or an act, such as moving a contributor or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where readers Are unsubscribed if they don’t open my email within 7 days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign because it lacks a number of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.)
For Instance, there’s currently no automation for transferring Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, most of these actions can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that activate new automation workflows. It’s just not as efficient…. yet.
Another question of efficacy here is when creating new emails From the automation workflow builder.
After having an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your topic line that appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the review.
This time, however, once you’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending alternatives.
Ultimately, your email address will be Loaded into your automation.
A nice touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation block, so it’s possible to find an idea about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on paper, it is actually much faster than what I’m used to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, so you’ll likely find that this downgrade in performance.
It’s fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there’s one Kind of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, also that I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on how Readers interact with the pages on your site.
This kind of behavioral targeting just isn’t available in MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or plan to utilize, you might want to skip this one. Email Marketing Analytics
The Price of MailerLite is among the tools biggest Selling things, and let’s face it, we all love a good bargain.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) for as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your emails using this plan, it’s still an amazing alternative for anyone starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It turns out, at around half the Price of this rivalry generally, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the cheapest options available on the market. Additionally, if you’re willing to pay yearly, you are also able to get a much greater discount.
In Reality, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among the email marketing tools The (very crowded) industry in recent decades, and that’s no simple feat.
While it is not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
Overall, I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and all at a price point you will seriously struggle to beat.
