Background Email Marketing Team
If I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what could you say? Email Marketing Team
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online industries today, email advertising has been Dominated by the identical large players for the last ten years. Which means they get encouraged very deeply and accomplish a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, inducing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.
So now, in this short article, I will be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to find out whether it stands its own ground against the big boys…

Like most email advertising providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the software.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, site, Industry, address, company size, record size and even the type of material you intend to send.
Then, you need to verify your Website (or domain name).
This remains part of the acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is associated to this domain so they can email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed those Measures, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, check your Website, and ascertain whether you are a fantastic match for their services.
(In other words, they are making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and perform with the attributes, but you will not be able to send anything until approved.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these steps aren’t ideal for getting started, it Does help stop unscrupulous users from hurting everyone else’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to Deal with The majority of your email advertising.
(We will get to automations shortly, do not worry.)
But if it is a brand new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always some excuse to send a more instant email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Create Campaign’ will give you several options.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Versions, including subject line, from name and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Do not open your broadcast email, with the option of changing the subject line and email articles.
– RSS effort: Create a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to readers using your website’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few additional choices, most of these will follow Exactly the exact same step-by-step procedure of a normal campaign.
So let us walk you through it.
As Soon as You click to create your campaign, you’ll be asked to Pick a preferred editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can switch to the Templates tab and choose from one of their pre-designed email templates — that will move you to the dragn’ drop editor by default.
In the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to select From which is a little on the low side, but the designs are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you’d just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I will select the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to use, Making customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the cubes in the sidebar to add different Kinds of articles to your email, including videos, merchandise columns, and societal connections.
After making your changes, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be taken to the recipients’ choices where you are able to choose your classes or sections.
The advanced tab also allows you To build segment-like rules , in case your targeting is not quite perfect.
Finally, right before sending, you’ll get to the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, if that is immediately, at a set time/date, or according to your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Email Marketing Team
Managing Your Clients
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably one of The most important aspects of any email marketing program today.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You’re looking to increase opens, clicks, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while most providers allow you to”label” readers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different approach.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll see two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your readers belong to a section only when they fulfill the Specified principles, and will be automatically inserted or eliminated so.
Here is what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can even combine Principles, as well as an alternate rule when the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for classes, and also the difference in name, These act much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or through an Automation rule — which we will get into in a moment — and they don’t have any value besides what you actually call them.
As you Begin to use this platform, you’ll begin to understand Where Segments and Groups are typically used, but MailerLite offers a hand in case you’re unsure:
Fundamentally, groups are more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments permit you to lump multiple contributors collectively according to a frequent denominator.
A tad confusing, I will admit… but I feel it is a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. Besides, they are discretionary.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their particular areas, such as name, business, and nation.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your subscribers along with Your custom field data in distinct columns… or may easily add these fields to a forms which will only apply to prospective readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I made and added to a form:
I won’t go too much into the shape Stuff here because I have a whole section on this below, but this is the strategy I would recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, once you’ve collected your custom field information from fresh Subscribers, you are able to pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Custom field.
I am barely scraping the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it is important that you understand this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it is fair to state MailerLite has their contributor Management and personalization features on stage. Email Marketing Team
If you are not impressed by what you’ve seen so far, then maybe The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, you will be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Isn’t winning any awards, but it will offer a fantastic foundation to work from if, like the majority people, you do not have that pure eye for layout.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, though They all finally do the same task; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further construct or alter your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual page builders, and it is better than a few dedicated alternatives *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the fundamental building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
No, it won’t be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all 3 form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite actually Provides a Decent set of form building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there is a whole lot to cover .
Let’s begin with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then place on your site to display it on particular pages.
Despite beginning super fundamental, the form designer allows you To personalize everything in the form style, fields, background, name, enter fields and, of course, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which gives you a Opportunity To envision your own copy in real time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there is more to some form than just its appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure how the Form works, including adding extra fields and setting a custom success page.
(There’s a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And talking of the success page…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, That will replace the embedded form and prevents users from redirecting.
Last but certainly not least, you Can check the way your form displays on mobile by switching the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t be able to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that’s an overview of this Embedded form but like I said before, you can even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of this installation process is identical, there are Still a few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth choice, they do offer a fantastic base to work from and the editor is at least as easy to use for this form kind.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template takes me to a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new options under form types Now around:
Considering paid programs such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup types.
And, as before, you can play with the styling options to get it Matched up with your own branding.
Last, you can choose the near Behavior of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text choice, or have .
That is where most email Marketing platforms would render you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Data in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click info, Subscriber development, automation analytics, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you specific coverage for that campaign.
This is where you’ll discover a few more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of this report to get a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Email’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see your readers interacted to another.
Reports for automations are Available under the’Automations’ tab, even although I found to be less insightful than campaign reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and most will get the available statistics more than enough to fulfill their needs.
What is email marketing without a dash of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this particular review.
The great news? If you’ve used a visual workflow builder, then You will instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is easy, clean and easy to navigate — something which certainly can’t be said for every email marketing software.
After establishing your trigger, you can begin adding measures to your workflow.
These measures can be anything from sending an email, including a Postpone, a bubble break, or an act, such as moving a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they don’t open my email within 7 days.
There are countless Possibilities in regards to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign since it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.)
For Instance, there’s now no automation for moving Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, the Majority of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various classes that trigger new automation workflows. It’s simply much less efficient…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when generating new mails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your topic line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the critique.
This time, however, as Soon as You’ve created your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you back into the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email address will be Loaded into your own automation.
A nice touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation block, so you can find an concept of what it contains at a glimpse.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on paper, it’s actually much faster than what I am utilized to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, so you will probably find this a downgrade in functionality.
It’s fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there is one type of automation You will not find in MailerLite, and that I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on the way Subscribers interact with all the pages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting only isn’t accessible MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or intend to use, you might want to skip this one. Email Marketing Team
The cost of MailerLite is no doubt one of those tools biggest Selling points, and let’s face it, we all love a fantastic bargain.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All features (including premium) to get as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding in your emails using this program, it’s still an amazing alternative for anyone starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It turns out, at around half the Price of this rivalry on average, MailerLite is by far one of the least expensive options on the market. Plus, if you’re ready to pay yearly, you are also able to get a much greater discount.
In fact, I have not been able to locate anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of the email advertising tools to disrupt The (very crowded) sector in the last couple of decades, and that’s no simple feat.
While it’s not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
All in all, I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and all at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to conquer.
