Intro Email Newsletter Marketing Software
When I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what could you say? Email Newsletter Marketing Software
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online industries now, email marketing has been Dominated by the same large players for the previous ten years. Which means they get promoted very heavily and achieve a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, causing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So today, in this review, I’ll be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to find out whether it really stands its own ground against the big boys…

Like most email advertising providers these days, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information like your company name, website, Business, address, company size, list size and even the type of content you intend to send.
Then, You Have to confirm your Site (or domain ).
This remains part of this approval process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is associated to this domain so they could email you a verification link.
As Soon as You’ve completed those Measures, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, assess your Website, and determine whether you are a good match for their service.
(In other words, they’re making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to utilize the software to make campaigns and perform with the attributes, but you will not have the ability to send anything until accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
However, while these measures are not ideal for getting started, it Does help prevent malicious users from hurting everyone else’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to handle Nearly all your email marketing.
(We will get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But if it is a brand new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Create Campaign’ will give you several options.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Variations, such as subject line, from title and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Do not open your broadcast email, with the option of altering the subject line and email articles.
– RSS effort: Create a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to readers using your website’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few added options, the Majority of these will follow Exactly the exact same step-by-step procedure of a normal effort.
So let’s walk you through it.
As Soon as You click on to create your effort, you’ll be requested to Select a favorite editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can switch to the Templates tab and choose from among the pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
In the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to select From which is somewhat on the low side, however, the designs are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you’d just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I’ll select the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to use, Which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the blocks in the sidebar to include distinct Types of content to your email, including videos, product columns, and social connections.
After making your changes, just click’Done Editing’ and you will Be carried to the recipients’ choices where you are able to choose your classes or segments.
The tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules , in case your targeting is not quite perfect.
Finally, right before sending, then you’ll get to the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, if that is immediately, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Email Newsletter Marketing Software
Handling Your Clients
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably among The most important aspects of any email marketing software today.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You’re looking to increase opens, clicks, and, most importantly, your conversions.
And while most providers Permit You to”label” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different approach.
When you start up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll see two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically rules.
Your readers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified rules, and will be automatically added or eliminated so.
Here is what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice how you can also blend Rules, in addition to an alternate rule if the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for classes, and also the difference in name, These act much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it)
Unlike Segments, Groups are updated manually or through an Automation rule — that we will get to in a minute — and they have no value aside from what you actually call them.
As you Begin to use this platform, you’ll begin to understand Where Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite offers a hand in the event you’re unsure:
Fundamentally, groups are much more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments permit you to bulge multiple subscribers together based on a frequent denominator.
A tad confusing, I will admit… but I believe it’s a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. Besides, they are discretionary.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their own fields, such as title, business, and nation.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers together with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or can simply add these fields to a types which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I made and added to a form:
I will not go too much to the form Things here since I have an entire section on that below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wished to use this feature.
Again, as Soon as You’ve gathered your custom field information from fresh Subscribers, you can pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Customized field.
I’m barely scraping the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it’s important to know this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it is reasonable to state MailerLite has their subscriber Direction and personalization features on stage. Email Newsletter Marketing Software
If you’re not impressed with what you have seen so far, then maybe The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, then you will be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, but it will offer a fantastic foundation to work from if, like most people, you don’t have that pure eye for design.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, though They finally do the same task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further construct or alter your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual page builders, and it is already better than a few dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Along with the basic building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
No, it won’t be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite actually Provides a Decent pair of type building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there’s a whole lot to cover here.
Let’s begin with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then put on your site to display it on specific pages.
Despite beginning super fundamental, the form designer lets you To customize everything in the kind style, subjects, background, name, input fields and, of course, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To visualize your copy in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there’s more to a form than just its appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure the way the Form functions, including adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And talking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, That can replace the embedded form and prevents users .
Last but surely not least, you Can assess the way your form screens on mobile by switching the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any layout changes , but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that is an Summary of the Embedded form but like I said before, you may even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the installation process is identical, there are A few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive choice, they do provide a fantastic foundation to work from and the editor is just as easy to use with this form type.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template requires me into a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new options under form types Now around:
Contemplating paid tools like Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to observe this amount of control over popup forms.
And, as before, you can play the styling options to get it Matched with your own branding.
Last, you can Select the near Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have .
That is really where most email Marketing platforms would render you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click info, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special reporting for that effort.
This is where you’ll find a few more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into individual areas of this report to get a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Email’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see how your readers interacted with your mails compared to one another.
Reports for automations are also Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, even though I found these to be less insightful than campaign reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and most will get the available data more than sufficient to meet their needs.
What’s email advertising with no dashboard of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this review.
The great news? If you’ve ever used a visual workflow builder, You’ll instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is easy, clean and easy to navigate — something which certainly can not be said for each and every email advertising program.
After setting your trigger, you can begin adding measures to your workflow.
These measures could be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a bubble break, or an act, such as moving a subscriber or upgrading their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within seven days.
There are innumerable Possibilities in regards to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign since it lacks a number of the conditional elements. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.. )
For example, there’s now no automation for moving Readers directly into another automation.
That being said, most of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that activate new automation workflows. It is just not as effective…. yet.
Another matter of efficiency here is when creating new emails From the automation workflow builder.
After having an email cube to The workflow, you’ll be asked to add your topic line which appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the review.
This time, however, once you’ve established your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you straight back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending alternatives.
Finally, your email address will be Loaded into your own automation.
A nice touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation cube, which means it’s possible to find an concept about what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is actually much faster than what I’m used to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, you will probably find this a downgrade in performance.
It is fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there is 1 Kind of automation You will not find in MailerLite, also that I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on how Subscribers interact with all the pages on your site.
This kind of behavioral targeting only is not accessible MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or plan to use, you may want to skip this one. Email Newsletter Marketing Software
The cost of MailerLite is among the tools biggest Selling points, and let us face it, most of us love a fantastic bargain.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) for up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your emails using this program, it’s still an amazing option for those starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It ends up, at approximately half of the Price of this competition generally, MailerLite is by far one of the least expensive options on the market. Plus, if you are willing to pay annually, you are also able to get a much greater discount.
In Reality, I haven’t been able to find anything that does the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of the email advertising tools to disrupt The (very crowded) industry in recent decades, and that’s no simple feat.
While it’s not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and all at a price point you will seriously struggle to beat.
