When I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what would you say? Emailtopia
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online industries now, email marketing continues to be Dominated by the identical large players for the last decade. Which means that they get promoted very heavily and achieve a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, causing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.

Like most email advertising providers these days, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the software.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your organization name, site, Business, address, business size, record size and also the kind of content you plan to send.
Then, you need to confirm your Website (or domain ).
This is still part of this approval process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is associated to this domain in order that they could email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed those Steps, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Site, and ascertain whether you are a fantastic match for their services.
(Quite simply, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and perform with the features, but you won’t be able to send anything until accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
However, while these steps aren’t perfect for getting started, it Does help prevent unscrupulous users from damaging everyone else’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to Deal with Nearly all your email advertising.
(We will get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But whether it is a brand new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Create Campaign’ will provide you several options.
– Regular effort: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Versions, including subject line, from name and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Do not start your broadcast email, with the choice of altering the subject line and email content.
– RSS campaign: Create a recurring campaign That sends new content to subscribers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added options, the Majority of these will follow Exactly the same step-by-step procedure of a standard campaign.
So let’s walk you through it.
As Soon as You click to create your campaign, you’ll be requested to Pick a preferred editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can switch to the Templates tab and select from one of their pre-designed email templates — that will move you into the dragn’ drop editor .
In the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to select From which is somewhat on the low side, but the layouts are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you would just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I’ll choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the cubes in the sidebar to include distinct Kinds of articles to your email, including videos, product columns, and social links.
After making your adjustments, simply click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be carried to the recipients’ choices where you are able to choose your classes or segments.
The tab also allows one To develop segment-like rules , in case your targeting is not quite right.
Finally, right before sending, you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, whether that is immediately, at a set time/date, or according to your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Emailtopia
Managing Your Clients
Possessing granular control over your subscribers is arguably among The most essential aspects of any email marketing software now.
Because highly personalized campaigns are necessary if You’re looking to increase opens, clicks, and, above all, your conversions.
And while most providers allow you to”label” subscribers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different strategy.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically principles.
Your readers belong to a section only when they fulfill the Specified rules, and will be automatically inserted or eliminated so.
Here is what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can also combine Rules, as well as another rule if the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for groups, and also the difference in name, These act much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it.)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or through an Automation principle — which we will get to in a minute — and they have no value besides what you call them.
As you start to use this platform, you’ll Start to understand At which Segments and Groups are generally used, but MailerLite offers a hand in the event you’re unsure:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments allow you to bulge multiple subscribers collectively based on a frequent denominator.
A tad confusing, I will admit… but I believe it is a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. Besides, they are discretionary.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their own fields, such as title, company, and nation.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your subscribers together with Your custom field data in separate columns… or can simply add these fields to your forms which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I created and added to a form:
I won’t go too much into the form Things here since I have an entire section on that below, but this is the approach I would recommend if you wanted to use this attribute.
Again, once you’ve collected your custom field data from new Readers, you are able to pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I’m barely scratching the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it is important to know that this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it is fair to state MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on point. Emailtopia
If you are not impressed by what you’ve seen so far, then perhaps The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, you will be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Isn’t winning any awards, but it will offer a great base to work from if, for example most people, you don’t have that natural eye for layout.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, though They ultimately do the identical task; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or alter your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual page builders, and this is better than some dedicated alternatives *Infection * WPBakery.
Along with the basic building blocks, you can use components like Hero sections, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
No, it will not be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all three form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually Provides a Adequate set of type building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there is a whole lot to cover here.
Let’s begin with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then put on your site to show it on particular pages.
Despite beginning super fundamental, the form designer lets you To personalize everything in the form style, fields, background, name, input fields and, of course, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which Provides you a chance To envision your own copy in real time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there is more to some form than simply its physical appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure the way the Form works, including adding extra fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, Which can replace the embedded form also prevents users from redirecting.
Last but surely not least, you Can check the way your form screens on mobile by switching the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any design changes , but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of this Embedded form but like I said before, you can also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the setup process is identical, there are A few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth choice, they do provide a fantastic foundation to work from and the editor is just as easy to use for this form kind.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template takes me into a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new options under form types Now around:
Considering paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to observe this amount of control over popup types.
And, as before, you can perform with the styling options to get it Matched up with your own branding.
Last, you can Select the near Behaviour of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text choice, or have .
That is where most email Marketing platforms will render you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click info, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you specific reporting for that effort.
This is where you’ll find some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading surroundings, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average user…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of the report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Mail’ tab also displays a click map, so It’s possible to see your subscribers interacted with your emails compared to one another.
Reports for automations will also be Available under the’Automations’ tab, even although I found these to be less enlightening than effort reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and most will find the available statistics more than enough to meet their demands.
What is email marketing without a dashboard of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this review.
The great news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, You will instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is easy, clean and easy to navigate — something which certainly can’t be said for every email advertising software.
After setting your trigger, you can begin adding measures to your workflow.
These steps can be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a conditional split, or an act, like transferring a subscriber or upgrading their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities in regards to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign since it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.)
For Instance, there’s now no automation for moving Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, the Majority of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different classes that activate new automation workflows. It’s simply not as effective…. yet.
Another matter of efficacy here is when creating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you’ll be asked to add your subject line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the review.
This time, but once you’ve established your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you straight back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending alternatives.
Finally, your email will be Loaded into your own automation.
A Wonderful touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation cube, which means it’s possible to find an concept about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on paper, it’s really much faster than what I’m utilized to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, so you’ll likely find this a downgrade in performance.
It is quick enough for me, Personally, however I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there is one type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, also I think that it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or measure ) based on how Subscribers interact with all the webpages on your site.
This kind of behavioral targeting only is not available in MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or plan to use, you might want to skip this one. Emailtopia
The Price of MailerLite is no doubt one of the tools biggest Selling points, and let us face it, most of us love a good deal.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your mails using this program, it’s still an wonderful alternative for those starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It ends up, at around half of the Price of this competition on average, MailerLite is by far among the cheapest options on the industry. Additionally, if you are willing to pay yearly, you can also get an even greater discount.
In Reality, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of the very few email advertising tools The (very crowded) industry in the last couple of years, and that’s no easy feat.
While it is not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and all at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to conquer.
Thinking about giving it a spin? Let us know how it works for you From the remarks. Emailtopia
