Background Emma Email Marketing
If I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what could you say? Emma Email Marketing
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online industries today, email marketing has been Dominated by the identical big players for the previous ten years. Which means they get promoted very heavily and accomplish a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, causing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.
So today, in this short article, I’ll be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to see whether it really stands its ground against the big boys…

Like most email marketing providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, site, Business, address, company size, record size and also the type of material you intend to send.
Then, You Have to verify your Site (or domain name).
This remains part of this approval process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is related to this domain so they can email you a confirmation link.
Once you’ve completed those Steps, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Website, and determine whether you’re a fantastic match for their services.
(Quite simply, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and play with the features, but you won’t be able to send anything before accepted.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
But while these measures are not perfect for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from damaging everyone else’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to handle Nearly all your email marketing.
(We will get to automations soon, do not worry.)
But whether it is a brand new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always some excuse to send a more instant email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Produce Campaign’ will give you several choices.
– Regular campaign: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Versions, such as subject line, from name and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Do not open your broadcast email, with the option of altering the subject line and email content.
– RSS campaign: Create a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to subscribers using your website’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few additional choices, most of these will follow Exactly the same step-by-step procedure of a normal campaign.
So let us walk you through it.
As Soon as You click on to create your campaign, you’ll be asked to Select a favorite editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can change to the Templates tab and choose from one of the pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
In the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to select From which is a little on the low side, but the designs are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you would just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I will select the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the cubes in the sidebar to include distinct Types of articles to your email, such as videos, merchandise columns, and societal links.
After making your changes, just click’Done Editing’ and you will Be carried to the recipients’ options where you are able to choose your classes or segments.
The tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting isn’t quite right.
Finally, right before sending, then you’ll get to the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, whether that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Emma Email Marketing
Handling Your Clients
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably one of The most essential aspects of any email advertising software now.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You’re searching to increase opens, clicks, and, most importantly, your conversions.
And while many providers allow you to”label” subscribers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different strategy.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically rules.
Your readers belong to a segment only when they meet the Specified principles, and are automatically added or eliminated accordingly.
Here is what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice how you can also combine Rules, in addition to another rule if the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for groups, and also the difference in title, These act much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it)
Unlike Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or through an Automation rule — which we’ll get to in a minute — and they have no value besides what you actually call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are generally used, but MailerLite delivers a hand in the event you’re unsure:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments permit you to lump multiple subscribers collectively based on a common denominator.
A tad confusing, I will admit… but I believe it’s a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. Besides, they are discretionary.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their particular areas, such as title, company, and nation.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers together with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or can easily add these fields to your types which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I created and added to a form:
I will not go too much to the form Stuff here because I have an entire section on this below, but this is the approach I would recommend if you wanted to use this feature.
Again, once you’ve collected your custom field data from new Readers, you are able to pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Customized field.
I’m barely scraping the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it is important to understand this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it is reasonable to say MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on stage. Emma Email Marketing
If you are not impressed with what you have seen up to Now, then perhaps The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, you will be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Isn’t winning any awards, but it does offer a great base to work from if, like the majority people, you do not have that pure eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, however They all finally do the identical task; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or change your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual site builders, and it is better than some dedicated solutions *cough* WPBakery.
Together with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
It will not be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all 3 form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite really Provides a Decent pair of form building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there is a lot to cover here.
Let’s begin with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then put on your site to show it on particular pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer allows you To customize everything in the form style, fields, background, title, enter fields and, of course, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which gives you a Opportunity To envision your own backup in real time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there is more to a form than simply its physical appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure how the Form functions, including adding extra fields and setting a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success page…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, Which can replace the embedded kind and prevents users .
Last but surely not least, you Can check how your form screens on cellular by switching the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t be able to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that’s an Summary of the Embedded form but as I said before, you may also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of the setup process is identical, there are Still a few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive selection, they do provide a good base to work from and the editor is just as easy to use for this form type.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template takes me into a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new choices under form types Now around:
Contemplating paid tools like Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this level of control over popup types.
And, as before, you can play the styling options to get it Matched up with your own branding.
Finally, you can choose the close Behavior of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
That is really where most email Marketing platforms will render you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation analytics, and form signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you specific coverage for this campaign.
This is where you’ll find some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying surroundings, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary user…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of the report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also shows a click map, so It’s possible to see how your readers interacted to one another.
Reports for automations will also be Available under the’Automations’ tab, although I found these to be less enlightening than effort reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and most will get the available data more than enough to meet their demands.
What’s email marketing with no dash of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this particular review.
The great news? If you have used a visual workflow builder, You’ll instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is easy, clean and simple to navigate — something which certainly can not be said for every email marketing software.
After establishing your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These steps can be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a conditional split, or an act, such as transferring a subscriber or upgrading their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they don’t open my email within seven days.
There are innumerable Possibilities in regards to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite ought to not have any trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign since it lacks some of the conditional elements. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.)
For example, there’s now no automation for transferring Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, most of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that trigger new automation workflows. It is simply not as efficient…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when creating new emails From the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you’ll be asked to add your subject line which then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the review.
This time, but once you’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back into the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email will probably be Loaded into your own automation.
A nice touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation block, so you can get an idea of what it contains at a glance.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on paper, it’s actually much faster than what I am used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, you’ll probably find that this downgrade in performance.
It is fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there’s 1 Kind of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, also that I think it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or step) based on how Subscribers interact with all the pages on your site.
This Sort of behavioral targeting just is not available in MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or plan to use, you might want to skip this one. Emma Email Marketing
The Price of MailerLite is among the tools largest Selling points, and let us face it, most of us love a fantastic bargain.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding on your emails using this plan, it is still an amazing alternative for those starting out.
And what about the premium plans?
It ends up, at around half the Cost of the competition on average, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the cheapest options on the market. Plus, if you’re ready to pay annually, you can also get a much greater discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does exactly the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of the few email advertising tools to disrupt The (very crowded) sector in recent decades, which is no easy feat.
While it is not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
Overall, I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to beat.
Thinking of giving it a spin? Let us know how it works for you From the comments. Emma Email Marketing
