Intro Firedrum Email Marketing
If I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what could you say? Firedrum Email Marketing
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?

Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, inducing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.

Like most email advertising providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the software.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, site, Industry, address, business size, record size and even the kind of content you intend to send.
Then, you need to verify your Site (or domain ).
This is still part of this approval process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is associated to that domain so they can email you a confirmation link.
As Soon as You’ve completed these Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, check your Website, and ascertain whether you are a good match for their service.
(In other words, they’re making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll still be Able to use the software to create campaigns and perform with the attributes, but you won’t have the ability to send anything before approved.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these steps aren’t ideal for getting started, it Does help stop unscrupulous users from damaging everybody’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to Deal with Nearly all your email marketing.
(We will get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But whether it’s a brand new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Create Campaign’ will provide you several choices.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Versions, such as subject line, from name and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not open your broadcast email, together with the option of altering the subject line and email content.
– RSS effort: Produce a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to readers using your website’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added options, most of these will follow Exactly the exact same step-by-step process of a standard campaign.
So let’s walk you through it.
As Soon as You click on to create your effort, you’ll be asked to Pick a preferred editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can switch to the Templates tab and choose from one of their pre-designed email templates — which will move you to the dragn’ drop editor by default.
In the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to select From which is somewhat on the low side, but the layouts are super modern.
And, of course, if you’d just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I’ll choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to use, Making viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the blocks in the sidebar to include distinct Types of content to your email, including videos, product columns, and social connections.
After making your changes, simply click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be taken to the recipients’ choices where you are able to select your classes or sections.
The tab also allows one To build segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting isn’t quite right.
Finally, before sending, you’ll get to the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, whether that is instantly, at a set time/date, or according to your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Firedrum Email Marketing
Managing Your Subscribers
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably among The most essential facets of any email advertising software now.
Because highly personalized campaigns are necessary if You are searching to increase clicks, opens, and, most importantly, your own conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”tag” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different strategy.
When you start up your subscriber dash, you’ll see two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically rules.
Your subscribers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified rules, and will be automatically inserted or removed so.
Here is what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even blend Principles, in addition to another rule if the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for groups, and despite the difference in title, These behave much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it.)
Unlike Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or via an Automation principle — which we’ll get into in a minute — and they don’t have any value aside from what you call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand Where Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in the event you’re unsure:
Fundamentally, groups are more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments permit you to lump multiple contributors together according to a common denominator.
A tad confusing, I will admit… but I believe it is a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. Besides, they’re discretionary.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own areas, such as name, company, and nation.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers along with Your custom field information in separate columns… or may easily add these fields to a forms which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I created and added into a form:
I won’t go too much into the shape Stuff here because I have an entire section on this below, but this is the approach I would recommend if you wanted to use this attribute.
Again, as Soon as You’ve collected your custom field data from fresh Readers, you can pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Custom field.
I’m barely scraping the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it is important to understand this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it’s fair to state MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on point. Firedrum Email Marketing
If you’re not impressed with what you have seen up to Now, then perhaps The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, then you’ll be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Is not winning any awards, but it will offer a fantastic base to work from if, like the majority people, you don’t have that natural eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, however They finally do the identical task; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further construct or change your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual page builders, and this is already better than a few dedicated solutions *cough* WPBakery.
Together with the fundamental building blocks, you can use components like Hero sections, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
It won’t be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all three form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually offers a Adequate set of type building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there is a lot to cover here.
Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then put on your site to display it on particular pages.
Despite beginning super basic, the form designer lets you To customize everything in the form style, fields, background, name, input fields and, of course, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To envision your own copy in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there’s more to some form than just its physical appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form functions, such as adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success page…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, That will replace the embedded form and prevents users from redirecting.
Last but certainly not least, you Can check the way your form screens on mobile by shifting the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any design changes , but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that is an Summary of the Embedded form but like I said before, you may also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of this installation process is identical, there are Still a few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive choice, they do offer a good base to work from and the editor is at least as easy to use with this form kind.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template requires me into a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new choices under form types This time around:
Considering paid programs like Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this amount of control over popup forms.
And, as before, you can play the styling options to get it Matched with your own branding.
Last, you can choose the near Behaviour of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text choice, or have both.
This is really where most email Marketing platforms will render you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special reporting for that effort.
This is where you’ll find some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of the report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Mail’ tab also displays a click map, so It’s possible to see exactly how your readers interacted to another.
Reports for automations will also be Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, even though I found to be less insightful than effort reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and most will find the available data more than sufficient to fulfill their demands.
What’s email marketing without a dashboard of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this review.
The good news? If you have used a visual workflow builder, then You will immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is simple, clean and simple to navigate — something which certainly can’t be said for each and every email advertising program.
After establishing your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These measures could be anything from sending an email, including a Postpone, a conditional split, or an act, such as transferring a subscriber or upgrading their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I set together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed when they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s currently no automation for transferring Readers directly into another automation.
That being said, the Majority of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that activate new automation workflows. It is just much less effective…. yet.
Another question of efficacy here is when creating new mails From the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your subject line that appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the critique.
This time, however, once you’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back into the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Finally, your email will be Loaded into your automation.
A Wonderful touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation block, which means it’s possible to find an concept of what it contains at a glance.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is actually much quicker than what I am used to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, you will probably find that this downgrade in performance.
It’s quick enough for me, Personally, but I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there is one Kind of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and I think it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or measure ) based on how Subscribers interact with the pages on your site.
This Sort of behavioral targeting only isn’t available in MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or plan to utilize, you might want to skip this one. Firedrum Email Marketing
The Price of MailerLite is among the tools biggest Selling things, and let us face it, most of us love a fantastic deal.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding on your mails using this plan, it’s still an wonderful alternative for those starting out.
And what about the top programs?
It ends up, at around half the Cost of the rivalry on average, MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the cheapest options available on the industry. Plus, if you are willing to pay yearly, you are also able to get an even better discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among those email advertising tools The (very crowded) sector in the last couple of years, and that’s no simple feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and all at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to beat.
