If I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what could you say? Freelance Email Marketing
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online industries now, email marketing continues to be Dominated by the same big players for the previous ten years. Which means that they get encouraged very deeply and accomplish a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, causing long-time customers to question their loyalties.

Like most email marketing providers these days, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the software.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information like your organization name, site, Industry, address, business size, list size and even the kind of content you plan to send.
Then, You Have to verify your Website (or domain ).
This remains part of this acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is associated to this domain so they could email you a verification link.
As Soon as You’ve completed these Steps, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, assess your Site, and determine whether you are a fantastic fit for their service.
(Quite simply, they are making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and perform with the attributes, but you won’t be able to send anything until approved.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
However, while these steps are not perfect for getting started, it Does help prevent malicious users from hurting everyone else’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to handle Nearly all your email advertising.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, don’t worry.)
But if it’s a new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always some excuse to send a more instant email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Create Campaign’ will provide you several options.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Versions, including subject line, from name and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Don’t start your broadcast email, with the option of changing the subject line and email content.
– RSS effort: Create a recurring campaign That sends new content to subscribers using your website’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few additional choices, most of these will follow The same step-by-step process of a normal effort.
So let’s walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your effort, you’ll be asked to Select a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can change to the Templates tab and select from one of their pre-designed email templates — that will move you to the dragn’ drop editor .
In the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to select From which is a little on the low side, however, the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you would just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I’ll select the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Making viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the blocks in the sidebar to include different Types of articles to your email, including videos, product columns, and societal links.
After making your adjustments, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be taken to the recipients’ choices where you can select your groups or sections.
The advanced tab also allows one To build segment-like rules , in case your targeting is not quite right.
Finally, right before sending, then you’ll get to the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, whether that is immediately, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Freelance Email Marketing
Handling Your Clients
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably among The most essential facets of any email marketing program today.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You are looking to increase clicks, opens, and, most importantly, your conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”tag” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different approach.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll see two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially principles.
Your readers belong to a segment only when they meet the Specified principles, and will be automatically inserted or eliminated so.
Here is what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even combine Principles, in addition to an alternate rule when the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for groups, and despite the difference in title, These act much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Unlike Segments, Groups are updated manually or through an Automation principle — that we’ll get into in a moment — and they have no value aside from what you actually call them.
As you Begin to use this platform, you’ll Start to understand Where Segments and Groups are typically used, but MailerLite delivers a hand in the event you’re unsure:
Fundamentally, groups are more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments permit you to lump multiple contributors together according to a frequent denominator.
A tad confusing, I will admit… but I feel it is a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. In any case, they’re optional.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own fields, such as name, business, and nation.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your subscribers along with Your custom field data in separate columns… or may simply add these fields to your types which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I made and added into a form:
I will not go too much into the shape Things here since I have an entire section on that below, but this is the approach I would recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, as Soon as You’ve collected your custom field information from new Subscribers, you are able to pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I am barely scratching the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it’s important that you know this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it is reasonable to state MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on point. Freelance Email Marketing
If you are not impressed with what you have seen up to Now, then maybe The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, then you will be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Isn’t winning any awards, it will offer a great base to work from if, like most of us, you don’t have that pure eye for layout.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, though They all finally do the same job; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or change your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual site builders, and it is already better than some dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Along with the basic building blocks, you can use elements like Hero segments, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
No, it won’t be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all three kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite actually Provides a Adequate set of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there’s a whole lot to cover here.
Let us begin with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then put on your website to display it on specific pages.
Despite beginning super basic, the form designer lets you To customize everything from the kind style, fields, background, name, enter fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which Provides you a chance To visualize your backup in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there’s more to some form than simply its appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure the way the Form works, such as adding additional fields and setting a custom success page.
(There is even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success page…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, Which can replace the embedded kind also prevents users .
Last but certainly not least, you Can check how your form screens on mobile by switching the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t be able to make any design changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that is an Summary of the Embedded form but like I said before, you can even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the setup Procedure is identical, you will find A few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive selection, they do provide a fantastic foundation to work from and the editor is just as easy to use for this form kind.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template takes me into a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new options under form types This time around:
Contemplating paid programs like Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to observe this amount of control over popup forms.
And, as before, you can perform with the styling options to get it Matched with your branding.
Finally, you can Select the close Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
That is where most email Marketing platforms would leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Data in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation analytics, and form signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you special coverage for this campaign.
This is where you’ll discover a few statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary user…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of the report to get a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see your readers interacted with your emails in relation to one another.
Reports for automations are also Available under the’Automations’ tab, even although I found these to be less enlightening than effort reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and most will get the available data more than enough to fulfill their demands.
What is email marketing with no dash of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this review.
The great news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, then You’ll immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is simple, clean and simple to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for each and every email marketing software.
After setting your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These steps can be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a conditional split, or an action, like transferring a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional elements. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.)
For example, there’s now no automation for moving Subscribers directly into a different automation.
That being said, the Majority of these activities can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that activate new automation workflows. It is just not as efficient…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when creating new mails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email block to The workflow, you’ll be asked to add your subject line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the critique.
This time, however, once you’ve established your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email will probably be Loaded into your automation.
A Wonderful touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation cube, so you can get an idea about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it’s actually much faster than what I am used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, so you’ll probably find that this downgrade in functionality.
It’s fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there is 1 type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, also I think it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or measure ) based on how Subscribers interact with the webpages on your website.
This Sort of behavioral targeting just isn’t available in MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or plan to use, you may want to skip this one. Freelance Email Marketing
The Price of MailerLite is among those tools largest Selling things, and let us face it, we all love a fantastic bargain.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All features (including premium) for up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your emails using this plan, it is still an wonderful option for those starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It turns out, at approximately half of the Cost of the competition generally, MailerLite is by far one of the least expensive options on the market. Plus, if you are willing to pay annually, you are also able to get a much greater discount.
In Reality, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of those few marketing tools to disrupt The (very crowded) sector in recent years, and that’s no simple feat.
While it’s not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to conquer.
