MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?

Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, causing long-time customers to question their loyalties.

Like most email advertising providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information such as your organization name, site, Business, address, company size, record size and also the kind of material you plan to send.
Then, You Have to confirm your Website (or domain ).
This remains part of the approval process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is related to this domain so they could email you a confirmation link.
Once you’ve completed these Measures, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, assess your Website, and ascertain whether you are a fantastic fit for their service.
(In other words, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to make campaigns and perform with the attributes, but you won’t have the ability to send anything before approved.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these steps are not ideal for getting started, it Does help stop unscrupulous users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to Deal with Nearly all your email advertising.
(We’ll get to automations soon, do not worry.)
But whether it’s a new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always some excuse to send a more immediate email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Create Campaign’ will provide you several options.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Variations, such as subject line, from title and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Don’t open your broadcast email, together with the choice of altering the subject line and email articles.
– RSS campaign: Produce a recurring campaign That sends new content to readers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added options, most of these will follow Exactly the same step-by-step process of a standard campaign.
So let’s walk you through it.
As Soon as You click to create your campaign, you’ll be requested to Pick a preferred editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can switch to the Templates tab and choose from one of the pre-designed email templates — that will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
At the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to select From which is a little on the low side, however, the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you’d just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I will choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Making viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to include different Kinds of content to your email, including videos, merchandise columns, and social links.
After making your changes, simply click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be carried to the recipients’ options where you can select your classes or segments.
The advanced tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules on-the-fly, in the event your targeting is not quite perfect.
Finally, right before sending, then you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, whether that’s immediately, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Honest Mail
Managing Your Clients
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably one of The most essential facets of any email marketing program now.
Because highly personalized efforts Are Essential if You are looking to increase clicks, opens, and, most importantly, your conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”tag” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different strategy.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically principles.
Your subscribers belong to a section only when they fulfill the Specified rules, and will be automatically added or eliminated accordingly.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can also combine Principles, in addition to an alternate rule when the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for groups, and also the difference in title, These behave much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but finally decided against it.)
Unlike Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or through an Automation principle — which we’ll get into in a minute — and they have no value aside from what you call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are generally used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in case you’re uncertain:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments allow you to bulge multiple contributors collectively based on a frequent denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I’ll admit… but I feel it’s a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. In any case, they are discretionary.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their particular areas, such as name, company, and nation.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your subscribers along with Your custom field data in separate columns… or can easily add these fields to a types which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I created and added to a form:
I won’t go too much to the shape Things here because I have a whole section on that below, but this is the approach I’d recommend if you wanted to use this feature.
Again, once you’ve collected your custom field information from new Readers, you are able to pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Customized field.
I’m barely scratching the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it’s important to know that this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it is fair to state MailerLite has their subscriber Direction and personalization features on stage. Honest Mail
If you’re not impressed by what you have seen up to Now, then perhaps The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, then you will be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Is not winning any awards, but it does offer a great foundation to work from if, like most of us, you don’t have that pure eye for layout.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, however They finally do the same job; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further construct or alter your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual site builders, and it is already better than a few dedicated alternatives *Infection * WPBakery.
Together with the fundamental building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
No, it won’t be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all 3 form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite really offers a Adequate pair of type building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there’s a whole lot to cover here.
Let’s begin with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then put on your website to display it on specific pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer allows you To customize everything from the kind style, fields, background, title, enter fields and, of course, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which Provides you a chance To visualize your backup in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there’s more to some form than simply its appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure the way the Form works, including adding extra fields and setting a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And talking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, Which will replace the embedded form also prevents users .
Last but surely not least, you Can assess the way your form displays on cellular by switching the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any design changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of this Embedded form but like I said before, you can also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the installation process is identical, there are A few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth choice, they do provide a good foundation to work from and the editor is just as easy to use with this form type.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template requires me to a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new options under form types Now around:
Contemplating paid tools like Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup types.
And, like before, you can perform the styling options to get it Matched up with your branding.
Finally, you can choose the near Behavior of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
That is really where most email Marketing platforms would leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click info, Subscriber development, automation analytics, and form signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you special reporting for this effort.
This is where you’ll find some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary consumer…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of the report for a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also shows a click map, so It’s possible to see your subscribers interacted to one another.
Reports for automations are also Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, although I found to be less insightful than campaign reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and most will get the available data more than sufficient to meet their needs.
What’s email marketing without a dash of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this particular review.
The great news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, You will instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for every email marketing program.
After setting your trigger, you can begin adding measures to your workflow.
These steps can be anything from sending an email, including a Postpone, a bubble break, or an action, such as transferring a contributor or upgrading their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where readers Are unsubscribed if they don’t open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities in regards to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign since it lacks a number of the conditional elements. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.)
For example, there’s currently no automation for moving Readers directly into another automation.
That being said, most of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that trigger new automation workflows. It’s just not as effective…. yet.
Another question of efficacy here is when creating new mails From the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to add your subject line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the review.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you straight back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending alternatives.
Ultimately, your email address will probably be Loaded into your own automation.
A Wonderful touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation cube, which means you can find an concept about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on newspaper, it’s actually much faster than what I’m used to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, so you will probably find that this downgrade in performance.
It’s fast enough for me, Personally, however I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there is 1 type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and I think that it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or step) based on the way Readers interact with the pages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting just isn’t available in MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or intend to use, you may want to skip this one. Honest Mail
The cost of MailerLite is among the tools largest Selling things, and let us face it, we all love a good bargain.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding on your mails using this plan, it is still an wonderful option for anyone starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It ends up, at approximately half of the Price of the rivalry on average, MailerLite is by far among the least expensive options on the market. Plus, if you’re willing to pay annually, you are also able to get an even better discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among those very few email advertising tools The (very crowded) industry in recent years, which is no easy feat.
While it’s not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
Overall, I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and all at a price point you will seriously struggle to conquer.
Thinking about giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you In the comments. Honest Mail
