MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?

Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, inducing long-time users to question their loyalties.

Like most email advertising providers Nowadays, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the software.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, website, Industry, address, company size, list size and even the kind of material you intend to send.
Then, you need to verify your Website (or domain name).
This remains part of this approval process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is related to this domain so they could email you a verification link.
As Soon as You’ve completed those Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Website, and determine whether you’re a fantastic fit for their service.
(Quite simply, they are making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to use the software to make campaigns and perform with the features, but you will not be able to send anything before accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
However, while these measures aren’t ideal for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to Deal with Nearly all your email marketing.
(We will get to automations soon, do not worry.)
But if it’s a new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Produce Campaign’ will give you several choices.
– Regular effort: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Versions, such as subject line, from name and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Don’t open your broadcast email, with the choice of changing the subject line and email content.
– RSS effort: Produce a recurring campaign That sends new content to subscribers using your website’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few added options, the Majority of these will follow The same step-by-step procedure of a normal campaign.
So let’s walk you through it.
As Soon as You click to create your effort, you’ll be requested to Pick a preferred editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can change to the Templates tab and choose from among the pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
At the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to choose From which is a little on the low side, but the layouts are super modern.
And, of course, if you’d just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I’ll select the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Making customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to include different Types of articles to your email, such as videos, merchandise columns, and societal connections.
After making your adjustments, just click’Done Editing’ and you will Be carried to the recipients’ choices where you can select your classes or sections.
The advanced tab also allows one To develop segment-like rules on-the-fly, in the event your targeting is not quite right.
Finally, right before sending, then you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, whether that is instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Inbox Marketer
Handling Your Subscribers
Having granular control over your readers is arguably one of The most important facets of any email advertising program today.
Because highly personalized efforts Are Essential if You’re searching to increase opens, clicks, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while many providers allow you to”label” subscribers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different strategy.
When you start up your subscriber dash, you’ll see two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically principles.
Your readers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified principles, and are automatically added or removed so.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even combine Principles, in addition to an alternate rule when the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for groups, and despite the difference in title, These act much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but finally decided against it.)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or through an Automation principle — which we’ll get into in a minute — and they have no value aside from what you actually call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite offers a hand in case you’re uncertain:
Basically, groups are more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to bulge multiple subscribers together according to a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I will admit… but I feel it is a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. In any case, they are optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their particular areas, such as name, business, and nation.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your subscribers along with Your custom field information in separate columns… or may simply add these fields to a types which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I made and added into a form:
I won’t go too much into the shape Things here since I have an entire section on that below, but this is the strategy I would recommend if you wanted to use this feature.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field information from fresh Readers, you can pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I am barely scratching the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it is important that you know that this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it is reasonable to state MailerLite has their contributor Direction and personalization features on stage. Inbox Marketer
If you are not impressed with what you’ve seen up to Now, then perhaps The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, then you’ll be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Isn’t winning any awards, but it does offer a great base to work from if, for example most of us, you don’t have that pure eye for design.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, however They all finally do the identical job; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further construct or alter your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual site builders, and this is better than a few dedicated solutions *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero segments, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
It won’t be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all three form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite actually Provides a Decent pair of type building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there is a lot to cover .
Let us begin with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then put on your website to display it on specific pages.
Despite beginning super fundamental, the form designer lets you To personalize everything from the form style, fields, background, name, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which gives you a Opportunity To visualize your copy in real time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there’s more to a form than simply its physical appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure the way the Form functions, including adding additional fields and setting a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, That will replace the embedded kind also prevents users from redirecting.
Last but surely not least, you Can check the way your form displays on cellular by shifting the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any design changes , but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of the Embedded form but as I said before, you can even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of this setup Procedure is identical, you will find Still a few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth choice, they do provide a good foundation to work from and the editor is at least as easy to use with this form kind.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template requires me to a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new options under form types Now around:
Considering paid programs such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to observe this amount of control over popup forms.
And, as before, you can play with the styling options to get it Matched up with your own branding.
Finally, you can choose the near Behavior of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text choice, or have both.
This is where most email Marketing platforms will leave you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Data in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber development, automation analytics, and form signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special reporting for that effort.
This is where you’ll discover a few more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary user…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of the report to get a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Email’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see precisely how your subscribers interacted with your mails compared to another.
Reports for automations are also Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, even although I found these to be less insightful than effort reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and most will find the available statistics more than enough to fulfill their demands.
What is email advertising with no dashboard of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this review.
The good news? If you have used a visual workflow builder, then You will instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is simple, clean and simple to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for every email advertising program.
After establishing your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These measures could be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a conditional split, or an act, like transferring a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are countless Possibilities in regards to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite ought to have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks a number of the conditional components. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.. )
For example, there’s currently no automation for transferring Readers directly into a different automation.
That being said, most of these actions can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into various classes that trigger new automation workflows. It’s just not as effective…. yet.
Another matter of efficiency here is when generating new emails From the automation workflow builder.
After having an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to add your topic line that appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the review.
This time, however, once you’ve established your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you back into the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email will probably be Loaded into your automation.
A nice touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation block, which means it’s possible to get an idea about what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on paper, it’s actually much quicker than what I am used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, you’ll probably find that this downgrade in performance.
It’s fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there is one Kind of automation You will not find in MailerLite, and that I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on the way Subscribers interact with all the webpages on your site.
This kind of behavioral targeting only is not available in MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or plan to use, you might want to skip this one. Inbox Marketer
The cost of MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the tools biggest Selling things, and let’s face it, most of us love a good deal.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) for as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding on your mails using this plan, it is still an wonderful alternative for those starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It ends up, at around half the Price of the competition generally, MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the cheapest options available on the market. Plus, if you’re willing to pay annually, you can also get an even greater discount.
In Reality, I have not been able to find anything that does exactly the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of those few advertising tools The (very crowded) sector in the last couple of decades, and that’s no simple feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
Overall, I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and at a price point you will seriously struggle to conquer.
