If I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what would you say? Inexpensive Email Marketing
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online businesses now, email advertising continues to be Dominated by the identical big players for the previous ten years. Which means they get promoted very heavily and achieve a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, causing long-time users to question their loyalties.

Like most email advertising providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the software.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, website, Business, address, company size, list size and even the kind of material you plan to send.
Then, You Have to confirm your Site (or domain name).
This is still part of this acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is related to that domain in order that they could email you a confirmation link.
As Soon as You’ve completed these Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, check your Site, and determine whether you are a fantastic match for their service.
(In other words, they’re making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll still be Able to use the software to create campaigns and play with the attributes, but you won’t be able to send anything until accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
However, while these measures are not perfect for getting started, it Does help stop unscrupulous users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to handle Nearly all your email marketing.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, don’t worry.)
But if it’s a brand new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always some excuse to send a more instant email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Create Campaign’ will give you several choices.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Variations, including subject line, from title and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not open your broadcast email, with the option of altering the subject line and email content.
– RSS campaign: Create a recurring campaign That sends new content to subscribers using your website’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few additional choices, the Majority of these will follow Exactly the exact same step-by-step procedure of a normal effort.
So let’s walk you through it.
As Soon as You click to create your effort, you’ll be requested to Pick a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can change to the Templates tab and select from among their pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
In the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to choose From which is a little on the low side, but the designs are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you’d just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I’ll choose the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the blocks in the sidebar to include distinct Types of content to your email, such as videos, merchandise columns, and societal links.
After making your changes, just click’Done Editing’ and you will Be carried to the recipients’ choices where you can select your groups or segments.
The tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules , in the event your targeting is not quite right.
Finally, before sending, you’ll get to the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, if that is instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Inexpensive Email Marketing
Handling Your Subscribers
Having granular control over your readers is arguably one of The most important facets of any email advertising program today.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You’re searching to increase opens, clicks, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while most providers allow you to”label” readers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different approach.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll see two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically rules.
Your readers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified rules, and will be automatically inserted or removed accordingly.
Here is what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can even blend Rules, as well as another rule when the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for groups, and despite the difference in name, These act much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or via an Automation principle — that we will get to in a minute — and they don’t have any value aside from what you call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand Where Segments and Groups are generally used, but MailerLite delivers a hand in the event you’re unsure:
Fundamentally, groups are more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple subscribers collectively based on a common denominator.
A tad confusing, I will admit… but I feel it’s a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. In any case, they are discretionary.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their particular fields, such as title, business, and nation.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your subscribers together with Your custom field data in separate columns… or can easily add these fields to a forms which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I created and added to a form:
I will not go too much to the form Stuff here because I have an entire section on that below, but this is the approach I’d recommend if you wished to use this feature.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field information from fresh Readers, you are able to pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Custom field.
I’m barely scraping the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it is important to understand that this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it is reasonable to state MailerLite has their subscriber Direction and personalization features on stage. Inexpensive Email Marketing
If you’re not impressed with what you’ve seen up to Now, then maybe The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, you’ll be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Isn’t winning any awards, it will offer a fantastic base to work from if, for example most people, you don’t have that pure eye for layout.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, however They all finally do the same task; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further build or alter your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual page builders, and this is better than some dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Along with the basic building blocks, you can use components like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
It won’t be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all 3 form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite really Provides a Adequate pair of type building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there’s a whole lot to cover .
Let’s start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then put on your website to show it on particular pages.
Despite beginning super fundamental, the form designer allows you To customize everything in the kind style, fields, background, title, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which Provides you a Opportunity To visualize your copy in real time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there’s more to a form than just its appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure how the Form functions, including adding extra fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success page…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, Which will replace the embedded kind and prevents users from redirecting.
Last but surely not least, you Can assess the way your form screens on cellular by switching the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t be able to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that’s an Summary of this Embedded form but like I said before, you may also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of this installation process is identical, you will find Still a few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth choice, they do offer a good foundation to work from and the editor is just as easy to use for this form type.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template takes me into a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new choices under form types Now around:
Considering paid programs like Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to see this amount of control over popup types.
And, like before, you can perform the styling options to get it Matched up with your own branding.
Finally, you can choose the near Behavior of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text choice, or have .
This is where most email Marketing platforms would leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click data, Subscriber development, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special reporting for this campaign.
This is where you’ll find a few more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading surroundings, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary consumer…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of this report to get a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Email’ tab also shows a click map, so You can see your subscribers interacted with your mails compared to another.
Reports for automations are Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, though I found to be less enlightening than effort reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and most will find the available data more than sufficient to fulfill their needs.
What’s email advertising with no dash of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this particular review.
The great news? If you’ve ever used a visual workflow builder, You’ll instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is easy, clean and simple to navigate — something that certainly can not be said for each and every email advertising program.
After setting your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These measures can be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a bubble break, or an act, such as moving a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I put together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within seven days.
There are countless Possibilities in regards to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s now no automation for moving Readers directly into another automation.
That being said, most of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that activate new automation workflows. It is just not as efficient…. yet.
Another matter of efficiency here is when generating new mails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email block to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your topic line which appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the review.
This time, however, as Soon as You’ve established your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you straight back into the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Finally, your email will probably be Loaded into your automation.
A Wonderful touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation block, so it’s possible to get an concept about what it contains at a glance.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on newspaper, it’s really much faster than what I’m utilized to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, you’ll likely find this a downgrade in functionality.
It is fast enough for me, Personally, however I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there’s 1 type of automation You will not find in MailerLite, and that I think it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or measure ) based on the way Subscribers interact with the webpages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting only isn’t available in MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or plan to use, you might want to skip this one. Inexpensive Email Marketing
The Price of MailerLite is no doubt one of the tools biggest Selling points, and let us face it, most of us love a fantastic deal.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) to get as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding on your emails using this plan, it is still an wonderful option for anyone starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It turns out, at approximately half the Cost of this competition generally, MailerLite is by far among the cheapest options on the industry. Additionally, if you are willing to pay yearly, you can also get a much better discount.
In fact, I have not been able to locate anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of the very few marketing tools to interrupt The (very crowded) industry in the last couple of decades, which is no simple feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to beat.
