When I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what would you say? Leave A Reply Email Marketing
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online industries today, email marketing has been Dominated by the same large players for the previous ten years. Which means they get encouraged very deeply and accomplish a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, causing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So now, in this review, I will be ripping MailerLite from limb To limb to see whether it stands its own ground against the big boys…

Like most email advertising providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the software.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information like your company name, website, Industry, address, business size, list size and also the type of material you plan to send.
Then, You Have to confirm your Site (or domain name).
This remains part of this acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is associated to this domain so they could email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed those Measures, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, check your Site, and ascertain whether you’re a fantastic fit for their services.
(Quite simply, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to utilize the software to make campaigns and play with the attributes, but you won’t be able to send anything before accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these steps aren’t perfect for getting started, it Does help prevent unscrupulous users from hurting everyone else’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to Deal with Nearly all your email marketing.
(We’ll get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But if it is a brand new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Produce Campaign’ will provide you several choices.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Variations, including subject line, from title and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not open your broadcast email, together with the choice of changing the subject line and email articles.
– RSS campaign: Create a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to subscribers using your website’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few added choices, the Majority of these will follow The same step-by-step process of a standard effort.
So let us walk you through it.
As Soon as You click to create your effort, you’ll be requested to Pick a favorite editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can change to the Templates tab and choose from one of the pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor .
In the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to choose From which is a little on the low side, however, the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you would just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I’ll choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the cubes in the sidebar to include distinct Kinds of content to your email, such as videos, merchandise columns, and social links.
After making your changes, just click’Done Editing’ and you will Be carried to the recipients’ options where you are able to choose your groups or sections.
The tab also allows one To develop segment-like rules , in case your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, right before sending, you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, whether that is immediately, at a set time/date, or according to your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Leave A Reply Email Marketing
Handling Your Clients
Possessing granular control over your subscribers is arguably among The most essential aspects of any email marketing program today.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You are looking to increase opens, clicks, and, most importantly, your conversions.
And while most providers Permit You to”tag” readers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different strategy.
When you open up your subscriber dash, you’ll notice two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically principles.
Your subscribers belong to a section only when they fulfill the Specified rules, and will be automatically inserted or removed accordingly.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can even blend Rules, as well as another rule when the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for classes, and also the difference in title, These behave much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it)
Unlike Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation principle — that we’ll get to in a moment — and they don’t have any value besides what you call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand Where Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite offers a hand in the event you’re unsure:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments allow you to bulge multiple contributors together according to a common denominator.
A tad confusing, I will admit… but I feel it’s a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. Besides, they are discretionary.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their own areas, such as name, company, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your readers along with Your custom field information in separate columns… or may simply add these fields to a forms which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added into a form:
I won’t go too much to the form Things here because I have a whole section on that below, but this is the approach I would recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, as Soon as You’ve collected your custom field information from new Readers, you can pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Custom field.
I am barely scratching the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it’s important that you understand that this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it’s fair to say MailerLite has their contributor Direction and personalization features on stage. Leave A Reply Email Marketing
If you’re not impressed with what you have seen up to Now, then maybe The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, then you’ll be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Is not winning any awards, but it does offer a great base to work from if, for example most people, you don’t have that pure eye for layout.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, though They all finally do the identical task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further construct or change your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual site builders, and it is better than a few dedicated alternatives *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero sections, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
No, it will not be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite really Provides a Adequate pair of type building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there’s a lot to cover here.
Let’s begin with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then put on your website to show it on specific pages.
Despite beginning super fundamental, the form designer allows you To personalize everything in the kind style, subjects, background, title, input fields and, of course, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which Provides you a chance To envision your own copy in real time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there is more to a form than just its appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure how the Form functions, such as adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And talking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, Which will replace the embedded kind also prevents users .
Last but certainly not least, you Can check how your form screens on mobile by switching the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any layout changes , but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of the Embedded form but as I said before, you may even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of this setup Procedure is identical, there are A few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive choice, they do offer a fantastic base to work from and the editor is at least as easy to use with this form type.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template takes me into a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new options under form types This time around:
Considering paid programs such as Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup types.
And, as before, you can perform with the styling options to get it Matched up with your branding.
Finally, you can Select the near Behavior of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text choice, or have both.
This is really where most email Marketing platforms would render you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Data in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber development, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you specific reporting for that effort.
This is where you’ll discover some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into different areas of the report to get a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
For example, the’View Email’ tab also displays a click map, so It’s possible to see exactly how your readers interacted with your emails compared to one another.
Reports for automations are Available under the’Automations’ tab, though I found these to be less insightful than campaign reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and many will get the available data more than sufficient to meet their needs.
What’s email marketing without a dashboard of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this particular review.
The good news? If you’ve used a visual workflow builder, then You will immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is easy, clean and simple to navigate — something which certainly can not be said for each and every email marketing software.
After setting your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These steps can be anything from sending an email, including a Delay, a bubble break, or an action, like transferring a contributor or upgrading their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I set together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed when they don’t open my email within 7 days.
There are countless Possibilities in regards to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite ought to have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign since it lacks a number of the conditional components. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.. )
For example, there’s currently no automation for moving Readers directly into a different automation.
That being said, the Majority of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different classes that trigger new automation workflows. It is simply not as efficient…. yet.
Another matter of efficacy here is when creating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your topic line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the review.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve established your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email will probably be Loaded into your automation.
A nice touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation cube, so it’s possible to get an idea about what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it’s really much quicker than what I am utilized to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, you will probably find that this downgrade in performance.
It is quick enough for me, Personally, but I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there’s one type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or step) based on how Readers interact with all the pages on your website.
This Sort of behavioral targeting just isn’t accessible MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or intend to utilize, you might want to skip this one. Leave A Reply Email Marketing
The Price of MailerLite is undoubtedly one of those tools biggest Selling points, and let us face it, we all love a fantastic deal.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding in your mails using this program, it’s still an wonderful alternative for those starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It turns out, at around half the Cost of this competition on average, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the cheapest options on the industry. Plus, if you’re willing to pay yearly, you can also get a much better discount.
In Reality, I haven’t been able to find anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of the few marketing tools The (very crowded) sector in recent years, which is no simple feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and all at a price point you will seriously struggle to conquer.
