Background Mail Liter
When I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what could you say? Mail Liter
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online industries today, email marketing continues to be Dominated by the same big players for the previous ten years. Which means they get encouraged very deeply and accomplish a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, inducing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So today, in this review, I’ll be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to see whether it stands its own ground against the big boys…
…and, more importantly, whether youshould consider making the change.

Like most email marketing providers these days, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the software.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, website, Business, address, company size, record size and even the kind of content you intend to send.
Then, You Have to confirm your Website (or domain ).
This is still part of the acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is associated to that domain in order that they can email you a verification link.
As Soon as You’ve completed these Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, check your Site, and determine whether you are a good match for their services.
(Quite simply, they are making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to use the software to create campaigns and play with the features, but you will not have the ability to send anything before accepted.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
But while these steps are not ideal for getting started, it Does help prevent unscrupulous users from hurting everyone else’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to handle The majority of your email advertising.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, do not worry.)
But if it is a brand new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always some excuse to send a more instant email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Produce Campaign’ will give you several options.
– Regular effort: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Versions, including subject line, from title and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Do not start your broadcast email, together with the choice of altering the subject line and email content.
– RSS effort: Create a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to readers using your website’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few additional choices, the Majority of these will follow The same step-by-step procedure of a standard campaign.
So let us walk you through it.
As Soon as You click on to create your campaign, you’ll be requested to Select a favorite editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can switch to the Templates tab and select from one of their pre-designed email templates — that will move you to the dragn’ drop editor by default.
In the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to choose From which is somewhat on the low side, but the layouts are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you would just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I will choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to use, Which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the cubes in the sidebar to add different Types of content to your email, such as videos, product columns, and societal links.
After making your adjustments, just click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be carried to the recipients’ choices where you can select your groups or sections.
The tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting is not quite right.
Finally, right before sending, you’ll get to the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, if that is immediately, at a set time/date, or according to your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Mail Liter
Handling Your Subscribers
Having granular control over your readers is arguably among The most important facets of any email advertising software now.
Because highly personalized campaigns Are Essential if You are searching to increase opens, clicks, and, most importantly, your own conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”tag” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different approach.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially principles.
Your readers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified principles, and are automatically inserted or removed so.
Here is what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can also combine Rules, in addition to another rule if the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for classes, and despite the difference in title, These behave much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Unlike Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation principle — that we’ll get into in a minute — and they don’t have any value besides what you actually call them.
As you start to use this platform, you’ll Start to understand Where Segments and Groups are generally used, however, MailerLite offers a hand in case you’re uncertain:
Basically, groups are more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to bulge multiple contributors together based on a frequent denominator.
A tad confusing, I will admit… but I feel it is a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. In any case, they’re discretionary.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their particular areas, such as name, business, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your subscribers along with Your custom field data in separate columns… or can simply add these fields to your types which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added into a form:
I won’t go too much to the form Things here because I have an entire section on that below, but this is the approach I’d recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field data from fresh Readers, you can pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Customized field.
I’m barely scraping the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it is important that you know this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it is fair to state MailerLite has their contributor Management and personalization features on point. Mail Liter
If you’re not impressed by what you have seen up to Now, then maybe The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, then you’ll be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Isn’t winning any awards, it will offer a great foundation to work from if, like most people, you do not have that pure eye for layout.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, however They all ultimately do the same job; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further build or change your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual page builders, and it is already better than some dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Along with the basic building blocks, you can use elements like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
It will not be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all 3 form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually Provides a Adequate pair of type building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there is a lot to cover .
Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then place on your site to display it on specific pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer lets you To personalize everything in the form style, subjects, background, title, enter fields and, of course, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To visualize your backup in real time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there’s more to some form than just its appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure how the Form functions, including adding extra fields and setting a custom success page.
(There is a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And talking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, That will replace the embedded form also prevents users from redirecting.
Last but certainly not least, you Can check the way your form displays on mobile by switching the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any design changes , but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that is an Summary of the Embedded form but like I said before, you may also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of this installation process is identical, there are A few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive choice, they do offer a good foundation to work from and the editor is at least as simple to use with this form type.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template takes me into a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new choices under form types This time around:
Contemplating paid tools like Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to observe this amount of control over popup forms.
And, like before, you can play the styling options to get it Matched up with your branding.
Finally, you can Select the close Behavior of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text choice, or have both.
This is where most email Marketing platforms will leave you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Data in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click data, Subscriber development, automation analytics, and kind signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you special coverage for that effort.
This is where you’ll find some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary consumer…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of the report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also shows a click map, so You can see precisely how your subscribers interacted to another.
Reports for automations will also be Available under the’Automations’ tab, even although I found these to be less enlightening than effort reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and most will get the available statistics more than sufficient to meet their demands.
What’s email marketing without a dash of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this particular review.
The great news? If you have used a visual workflow builder, then You’ll instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for each and every email marketing program.
After establishing your trigger, you can Start adding measures to your workflow.
These measures could be anything from sending an email, including a Delay, a bubble break, or an act, like transferring a subscriber or upgrading their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities in regards to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite ought to have no trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional elements. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.)
For example, there’s currently no automation for transferring Subscribers directly into a different automation.
That being said, most of these actions can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that trigger new automation workflows. It is just not as effective…. yet.
Another matter of efficacy here is when creating new emails From the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you’ll be asked to put in your subject line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the review.
This time, but once you’ve created your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you back into the automations workflow instead of the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email will probably be Loaded into your automation.
A nice touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation cube, which means you can find an concept of what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is really much quicker than what I am used to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, so you’ll probably find that this downgrade in functionality.
It is fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there’s one type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and I think that it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or measure ) based on the way Readers interact with the pages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting just isn’t accessible MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or plan to use, you might want to skip this one. Mail Liter
The cost of MailerLite is one of those tools largest Selling points, and let us face it, we all love a fantastic deal.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding in your emails using this plan, it’s still an wonderful alternative for anyone starting out.
And what about the premium plans?
It ends up, at around half of the Cost of the rivalry generally, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the least expensive options on the industry. Additionally, if you are willing to pay yearly, you can also get a much greater discount.
In Reality, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of those very few marketing tools to disrupt The (very crowded) sector in recent years, which is no easy feat.
While it is not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
Overall, I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to beat.
Thinking about giving it a spin? Let us know how it works for you In the remarks. Mail Liter
