If I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what could you say? Mailerlite Contact
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online industries now, email advertising continues to be Dominated by the identical big players for the previous ten years. Which means that they get encouraged very deeply and achieve a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, causing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So now, in this review, I’ll be ripping MailerLite from limb To limb to find out if it really stands its ground against the big boys…

Like most email advertising providers these days, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, site, Business, address, business size, record size and even the kind of material you plan to send.
Then, you need to verify your Site (or domain ).
This is still part of this approval process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is related to that domain so they can email you a confirmation link.
Once you’ve completed those Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, assess your Site, and determine whether you are a fantastic match for their service.
(In other words, they’re making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to use the software to make campaigns and perform with the features, but you won’t have the ability to send anything before approved.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
However, while these measures are not perfect for getting started, it Does help prevent malicious users from damaging everyone else’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to handle The majority of your email advertising.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, don’t worry.)
But whether it is a brand new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always some excuse to send a more immediate email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Create Campaign’ will provide you several choices.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Variations, including subject line, from name and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Don’t start your broadcast email, with the choice of altering the subject line and email articles.
– RSS campaign: Create a recurring campaign That sends new content to subscribers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added choices, most of these will follow The same step-by-step procedure of a normal effort.
So let’s walk you through it.
Once you click to create your campaign, you’ll be requested to Select a preferred editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can change to the Templates tab and choose from one of their pre-designed email templates — which will move you to the dragn’ drop editor .
At the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to choose From which is somewhat on the low side, however, the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you’d just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I will choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Making viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the blocks in the sidebar to include distinct Types of content to your email, such as videos, merchandise columns, and social links.
After making your changes, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be carried to the recipients’ options where you are able to choose your groups or segments.
The advanced tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting isn’t quite right.
Finally, before sending, you’ll get to the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, whether that is immediately, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Mailerlite Contact
Handling Your Clients
Having granular control over your readers is arguably one of The most important facets of any email advertising program now.
Because highly personalized campaigns are necessary if You are looking to increase opens, clicks, and, most importantly, your own conversions.
And while most providers allow you to”label” subscribers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different strategy.
When you start up your subscriber dash, you’ll notice two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically principles.
Your readers belong to a segment only when they meet the Specified rules, and will be automatically inserted or removed so.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can also blend Rules, as well as another rule if the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for groups, and also the difference in name, These behave much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it)
Unlike Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation rule — that we will get to in a minute — and they have no value aside from what you actually call them.
As you start to use this platform, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in case you’re uncertain:
Fundamentally, groups are much more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple subscribers together according to a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I’ll admit… but I believe it is a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. Besides, they are optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their particular areas, such as title, company, and country.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers together with Your custom field data in distinct columns… or may simply add these fields to your forms which will only apply to future subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I created and added to a form:
I will not go too much to the shape Things here because I have a whole section on this below, but this is the strategy I would recommend if you wished to use this feature.
Again, once you’ve collected your custom field data from new Subscribers, you are able to pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Customized field.
I am barely scratching the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it is important that you know this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it is reasonable to say MailerLite has their contributor Management and personalization features on stage. Mailerlite Contact
If you’re not impressed with what you’ve seen up to Now, then perhaps The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, then you’ll be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, it will offer a great base to work from if, like most people, you do not have that natural eye for design.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, however They ultimately do the same job; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further construct or change your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual page builders, and it is better than a few dedicated solutions *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the basic building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
It won’t be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite really offers a Decent set of type building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there’s a whole lot to cover here.
Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then place on your site to show it on specific pages.
Despite starting off super fundamental, the form designer lets you To customize everything in the kind style, fields, background, name, input fields and, of course, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which Provides you a chance To visualize your backup in real-time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there is more to a form than simply its physical appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure how the Form functions, such as adding extra fields and setting a custom success page.
(There’s a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success page…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, Which can replace the embedded kind and prevents users .
Last but surely not least, you Can assess how your form screens on cellular by switching the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any layout changes , but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that’s an Summary of the Embedded form but like I said before, you can even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of this setup Procedure is identical, you will find A few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth choice, they do provide a good foundation to work from and the editor is at least as easy to use with this form type.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template takes me to a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new choices under form types Now around:
Contemplating paid tools like Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup types.
And, as before, you can play with the styling options to get it Matched up with your own branding.
Last, you can Select the near Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
That is where most email Marketing platforms will leave you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber development, automation analytics, and form signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you special reporting for that campaign.
This is where you’ll find some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of the report to get a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also displays a click map, so It’s possible to see your readers interacted with your emails compared to another.
Reports for automations are Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, even though I found these to be less insightful than effort reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and most will get the available data more than sufficient to meet their needs.
What is email marketing with no dashboard of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this particular review.
The great news? If you’ve used a visual workflow builder, You will immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is easy, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can not be said for every email marketing software.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding measures to your workflow.
These measures can be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a bubble break, or an action, like moving a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they don’t open my email within seven days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign because it lacks a number of the conditional elements. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.)
For example, there’s now no automation for moving Readers directly into a different automation.
That being said, most of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that activate new automation workflows. It’s simply not as effective…. yet.
Another question of efficacy here is when creating new emails From the automation workflow builder.
After having an email cube to The workflow, you’ll be asked to add your subject line which appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the critique.
This time, however, once you’ve created your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back into the automations workflow instead of the usual sending alternatives.
Finally, your email address will probably be Loaded into your own automation.
A Wonderful touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation block, which means it’s possible to get an concept about what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on paper, it is actually much quicker than what I am used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, so you will likely find this a downgrade in performance.
It’s quick enough for me, Personally, but I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there’s 1 Kind of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, also I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on the way Readers interact with all the webpages on your website.
This Sort of behavioral targeting just isn’t available in MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or plan to utilize, you might want to skip this one. Mailerlite Contact
The cost of MailerLite is among those tools biggest Selling things, and let us face it, we all love a fantastic deal.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding on your mails using this plan, it’s still an wonderful alternative for those starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It ends up, at approximately half of the Cost of this rivalry generally, MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the least expensive options on the market. Plus, if you are willing to pay yearly, you are also able to get a much greater discount.
In fact, I have not been able to find anything that does exactly the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of those very few marketing tools to disrupt The (very crowded) industry in recent years, which is no easy feat.
While it’s not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
Overall, I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to beat.
Thinking about giving it a spin? Let us know how it works for you In the remarks. Mailerlite Contact
