Introduction Mailerlite Email
When I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what would you say? Mailerlite Email
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online businesses now, email marketing has been Dominated by the same big players for the last decade. Which means that they get promoted very heavily and achieve a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, causing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So now, in this review, I will be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to see if it stands its ground against the big boys…
…and, what’s more, whether youshould consider making the switch.

Like most email advertising providers these days, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the program.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information such as your organization name, website, Business, address, business size, list size and also the kind of content you intend to send.
Then, You Have to confirm your Site (or domain name).
This is still part of the acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is associated to this domain so they can email you a confirmation link.
As Soon as You’ve completed these Measures, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Website, and determine whether you’re a fantastic fit for their services.
(In other words, they’re making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to use the software to make campaigns and play with the features, but you will not have the ability to send anything before accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
However, while these steps are not ideal for getting started, it Does help stop unscrupulous users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to Deal with The majority of your email advertising.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, do not worry.)
But whether it’s a new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always some excuse to send a more immediate email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Produce Campaign’ will provide you several options.
– Regular campaign: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Variations, including subject line, from title and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Don’t open your broadcast email, together with the option of altering the subject line and email articles.
– RSS campaign: Create a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to subscribers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few additional options, the Majority of these will follow The exact same step-by-step process of a normal effort.
So let’s walk you through it.
As Soon as You click to create your effort, you’ll be requested to Select a preferred editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can switch to the Templates tab and choose from one of their pre-designed email templates — which will move you to the dragn’ drop editor by default.
In the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to choose From which is somewhat on the low side, but the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you would just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I will select the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to use, Making viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the blocks in the sidebar to include distinct Kinds of articles to your email, including videos, product columns, and social connections.
After making your changes, just click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be taken to the recipients’ options where you can select your classes or segments.
The advanced tab also allows you To build segment-like rules on-the-fly, in the event your targeting is not quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get to the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, if that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or according to your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Mailerlite Email
Managing Your Subscribers
Having granular control over your readers is arguably one of The most important facets of any email marketing program today.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You’re searching to increase opens, clicks, and, above all, your conversions.
And while most providers allow you to”label” subscribers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different approach.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll see two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your readers belong to a segment only when they fulfill the Specified rules, and are automatically inserted or eliminated so.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can also blend Principles, in addition to an alternate rule if the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for groups, and also the difference in title, These act much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or via an Automation rule — that we will get into in a minute — and they have no value aside from what you call them.
As you start to use this platform, you’ll Start to understand Where Segments and Groups are typically used, but MailerLite delivers a hand in case you’re uncertain:
Fundamentally, groups are much more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to bulge multiple contributors collectively according to a frequent denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I will admit… but I feel it’s a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. In any case, they’re optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own fields, such as name, company, and nation.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your subscribers together with Your custom field data in distinct columns… or may easily add these fields to a forms which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I created and added into a form:
I won’t go too much to the form Things here since I have a whole section on that below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field data from new Subscribers, you are able to pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Custom field.
I’m barely scratching the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it is important that you know this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it’s fair to state MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on stage. Mailerlite Email
If you’re not impressed by what you have seen so far, then perhaps The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, you’ll be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Isn’t winning any awards, but it does offer a great foundation to work from if, for example most people, you don’t have that natural eye for layout.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, though They all ultimately do the identical job; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further construct or change your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual site builders, and this is better than some dedicated alternatives *cough* WPBakery.
Together with the fundamental building blocks, you can use components like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
It won’t be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all three kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually Provides a Adequate set of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there is a whole lot to cover .
Let’s start with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then place on your website to display it on particular pages.
Despite beginning super fundamental, the form designer allows you To customize everything in the form style, fields, background, title, enter fields and, of course, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which gives you a Opportunity To envision your own backup in real time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there’s more to a form than just its physical appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form functions, such as adding additional fields and setting a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And talking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, Which can replace the embedded kind and prevents users from redirecting.
Last but certainly not least, you Can assess the way your form screens on cellular by switching the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any layout changes , but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that is an Summary of the Embedded form but like I said before, you may even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of the setup process is identical, you will find Still a few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive selection, they do offer a good foundation to work from and the editor is just as simple to use for this form kind.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template takes me into a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new options under form types Now around:
Contemplating paid programs such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup types.
And, like before, you can perform the styling options to get it Matched up with your own branding.
Last, you can Select the close Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
That is really where most email Marketing platforms would render you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click info, Subscriber development, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you special coverage for that effort.
This is where you’ll find a few more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary user…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of the report for a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Mail’ tab also shows a click map, so You can see how your subscribers interacted with your emails in relation to another.
Reports for automations will also be Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, even although I found these to be less insightful than effort reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and most will get the available statistics more than enough to fulfill their demands.
What is email advertising without a dash of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this particular review.
The great news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, You’ll instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is easy, clean and simple to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for every email advertising software.
After establishing your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These steps can be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a conditional split, or an action, like moving a subscriber or upgrading their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I put together, where readers Are unsubscribed if they don’t open my email within seven days.
There are innumerable Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks a number of the conditional elements. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s currently no automation for moving Subscribers directly into a different automation.
That being said, the Majority of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different classes that activate new automation workflows. It is just much less effective…. yet.
Another matter of efficacy here is when creating new emails From the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email block to The workflow, you’ll be asked to add your topic line that appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the review.
This time, however, once you’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email address will probably be Loaded into your own automation.
A Wonderful touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation block, so you can get an idea of what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it’s actually much quicker than what I am used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, so you will likely find this a downgrade in performance.
It’s fast enough for me, Personally, however I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there is one type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, also I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or measure ) based on the way Readers interact with all the webpages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting just isn’t accessible MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or intend to utilize, you may want to skip this one. Mailerlite Email
The cost of MailerLite is no doubt one of the tools biggest Selling things, and let us face it, we all love a fantastic deal.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) for as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding on your mails using this plan, it’s still an wonderful alternative for those starting out.
And what about the top programs?
It ends up, at approximately half of the Cost of the rivalry on average, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the least expensive options available on the industry. Additionally, if you’re ready to pay yearly, you are also able to get an even greater discount.
In fact, I have not been able to find anything that does exactly the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among the few marketing tools to interrupt The (very crowded) industry in the last couple of decades, which is no simple feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
All in all, I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and at a price point you will seriously struggle to conquer.
Thinking of giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you From the remarks. Mailerlite Email
