Introduction Mailerlite Features
If I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what would you say? Mailerlite Features
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online industries today, email marketing continues to be Dominated by the same big players for the previous ten years. Which means they get promoted very heavily and accomplish a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, causing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.
So today, in this short article, I’ll be ripping MailerLite from limb To limb to find out whether it stands its ground against the big boys…

Like most email advertising providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the software.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information such as your organization name, site, Business, address, business size, list size and also the kind of material you intend to send.
Then, you need to confirm your Site (or domain name).
This is still part of this acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is related to this domain in order that they can email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed these Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, check your Site, and ascertain whether you are a fantastic fit for their services.
(Quite simply, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to utilize the software to make campaigns and perform with the features, but you won’t be able to send anything until approved.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these measures are not perfect for getting started, it Does help prevent unscrupulous users from damaging everyone else’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to Deal with The majority of your email marketing.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, do not worry.)
But if it is a brand new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more instant email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Produce Campaign’ will provide you several choices.
– Regular effort: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Variations, such as subject line, from name and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not start your broadcast email, together with the option of changing the subject line and email articles.
– RSS campaign: Produce a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to readers using your website’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few additional choices, the Majority of these will follow The same step-by-step procedure of a standard campaign.
So let us walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your campaign, you’ll be requested to Select a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can change to the Templates tab and select from among the pre-designed email templates — which will move you to the dragn’ drop editor by default.
At the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to select From which is a little on the low side, however, the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you would just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I will choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Making customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the blocks in the sidebar to add different Kinds of content to your email, such as videos, merchandise columns, and societal connections.
After making your adjustments, just click’Done Editing’ and you will Be taken to the recipients’ choices where you are able to select your groups or segments.
The tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules , in the event your targeting is not quite right.
Finally, before sending, you’ll get into the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, whether that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Mailerlite Features
Handling Your Clients
Having granular control over your readers is arguably among The most essential facets of any email advertising program today.
Because highly personalized campaigns are necessary if You are looking to increase clicks, opens, and, above all, your conversions.
And while most providers allow you to”tag” subscribers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different strategy.
When you start up your subscriber dash, you’ll notice two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially principles.
Your readers belong to a segment only when they fulfill the Specified rules, and will be automatically added or eliminated so.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even combine Rules, as well as an alternate rule if the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for groups, and despite the difference in name, These behave much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation rule — that we’ll get to in a moment — and they have no value aside from what you call them.
As you Begin to use this platform, you’ll begin to understand Where Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in case you’re unsure:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple contributors collectively according to a common denominator.
A tad confusing, I’ll admit… but I believe it is a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. Besides, they’re discretionary.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their particular areas, such as title, company, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers together with Your custom field information in separate columns… or can simply add these fields to a types which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I created and added into a form:
I won’t go too much into the form Things here since I have an entire section on this below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wanted to use this feature.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field information from fresh Subscribers, you are able to pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Customized field.
I am barely scratching the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it is important to know this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it’s fair to say MailerLite has their subscriber Direction and personalization features on point. Mailerlite Features
If you’re not impressed by what you’ve seen so far, then perhaps The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, you’ll be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, but it does offer a fantastic base to work from if, like most of us, you do not have that natural eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, however They finally do the same job; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further construct or alter your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual site builders, and this is better than a few dedicated solutions *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the fundamental building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
It will not be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite really Provides a Adequate set of type building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there’s a whole lot to cover .
Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then place on your website to show it on specific pages.
Despite beginning super fundamental, the form designer lets you To personalize everything in the kind style, fields, background, title, enter fields and, of course, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To visualize your backup in real-time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there’s more to a form than simply its appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure the way the Form functions, including adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is even a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And talking of the success page…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, Which will replace the embedded kind and prevents users .
Last but surely not least, you Can check the way your form displays on cellular by switching the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t be able to make any design changes here, but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of this Embedded form but as I said before, you may even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of this setup Procedure is identical, there are A few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth selection, they do provide a good foundation to work from and the editor is at least as simple to use for this form kind.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template takes me into a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new choices under form types Now around:
Considering paid tools like Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to see this level of control over popup types.
And, like before, you can perform with the styling options to get it Matched with your branding.
Finally, you can choose the near Behavior of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
This is really where most email Marketing platforms would leave you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click info, Subscriber development, automation analytics, and kind signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you specific coverage for that effort.
This is where you’ll find some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into individual areas of this report to get a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
For example, the’View Email’ tab also shows a click map, so It’s possible to see how your subscribers interacted with your emails compared to another.
Reports for automations will also be Available under the’Automations’ tab, though I found to be less enlightening than campaign reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and many will get the available statistics more than sufficient to fulfill their demands.
What’s email marketing with no dash of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this particular review.
The great news? If you’ve ever used a visual workflow builder, You’ll immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something which certainly can’t be said for every email advertising software.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding measures to your workflow.
These measures can be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a conditional split, or an act, such as transferring a contributor or updating their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I put together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they don’t open my email within seven days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional elements. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.)
For example, there’s now no automation for moving Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, most of these actions can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that activate new automation workflows. It’s just not as effective…. yet.
Another matter of efficiency here is when generating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to add your subject line which then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the critique.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve established your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending alternatives.
Finally, your email will be Loaded into your own automation.
A Wonderful touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation cube, which means it’s possible to get an idea of what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it’s actually much faster than what I’m used to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, you’ll probably find this a downgrade in functionality.
It’s fast enough for me, Personally, however I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there’s 1 Kind of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and that I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or measure ) based on the way Subscribers interact with all the webpages on your website.
This Sort of behavioral targeting only is not accessible MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or plan to utilize, you might want to skip this one. Mailerlite Features
The cost of MailerLite is undoubtedly among the tools biggest Selling things, and let’s face it, most of us love a good bargain.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All features (including premium) for up to 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding on your emails using this program, it’s still an amazing alternative for anyone starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It ends up, at approximately half the Cost of the rivalry generally, MailerLite is by far among the cheapest options on the industry. Plus, if you are ready to pay annually, you are also able to get a much greater discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of those very few advertising tools The (very crowded) sector in recent decades, and that’s no simple feat.
While it’s not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
All in all, I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and all at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to conquer.
Thinking about giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you In the comments. Mailerlite Features
