Background Mailerlite Gem Rails
If I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what could you say? Mailerlite Gem Rails
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online industries now, email marketing continues to be Dominated by the identical large players for the last ten years. Which means that they get encouraged very deeply and accomplish a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, causing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.
So today, in this review, I’ll be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to see if it stands its ground against the big boys…

Like most email advertising providers these days, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the software.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information like your company name, site, Business, address, company size, list size and also the type of content you plan to send.
Then, You Have to confirm your Website (or domain name).
This remains part of this acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is related to that domain so they can email you a verification link.
As Soon as You’ve completed those Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Website, and ascertain whether you are a fantastic fit for their service.
(In other words, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to use the software to create campaigns and perform with the features, but you will not be able to send anything until approved.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
However, while these measures aren’t perfect for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from damaging everyone else’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to handle Nearly all your email advertising.
(We will get to automations shortly, don’t worry.)
But if it’s a brand new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more instant email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Produce Campaign’ will provide you several options.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Variations, including subject line, from name and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not start your broadcast email, together with the choice of altering the subject line and email content.
– RSS campaign: Create a recurring campaign That sends new content to subscribers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added choices, most of these will follow Exactly the exact same step-by-step process of a normal effort.
So let’s walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your effort, you’ll be requested to Pick a preferred editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can change to the Templates tab and select from among the pre-designed email templates — that will move you to the dragn’ drop editor .
In the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to select From which is a little on the low side, however, the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you would just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I will choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the cubes in the sidebar to include distinct Types of content to your email, including videos, product columns, and social links.
After making your changes, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be taken to the recipients’ choices where you can choose your classes or segments.
The tab also allows one To build segment-like rules , in case your targeting isn’t quite right.
Finally, before sending, you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, if that’s immediately, at a set time/date, or according to your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Mailerlite Gem Rails
Handling Your Clients
Possessing granular control over your subscribers is arguably among The most important aspects of any email marketing program today.
Because highly personalized campaigns Are Essential if You’re searching to increase clicks, opens, and, most importantly, your own conversions.
And while many providers allow you to”tag” readers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different strategy.
When you start up your subscriber dash, you’ll notice two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially principles.
Your subscribers belong to a segment only when they meet the Specified rules, and are automatically inserted or eliminated accordingly.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even combine Principles, as well as an alternate rule when the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for classes, and also the difference in name, These act much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or via an Automation rule — that we will get into in a moment — and they don’t have any value besides what you actually call them.
As you Begin to use this platform, you’ll Start to understand Where Segments and Groups are generally used, however, MailerLite offers a hand in case you’re unsure:
Basically, groups are more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to bulge multiple contributors collectively based on a frequent denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I’ll admit… but I believe it’s a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. Besides, they’re optional.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own fields, such as title, business, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers along with Your custom field data in distinct columns… or may simply add these fields to a forms which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I created and added into a form:
I won’t go too much to the shape Stuff here since I have an entire section on this below, but this is the strategy I would recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, as Soon as You’ve collected your custom field information from new Subscribers, you are able to pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I’m barely scratching the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it is important that you know that this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it is fair to say MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on stage. Mailerlite Gem Rails
If you are not impressed with what you’ve seen up to Now, then maybe The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, then you will be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, but it will offer a fantastic base to work from if, like most people, you don’t have that natural eye for layout.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, however They ultimately do the identical task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further construct or alter your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual page builders, and this is better than some dedicated solutions *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero segments, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
No, it won’t be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all three form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually offers a Adequate set of type building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there’s a lot to cover .
Let us begin with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then place on your site to display it on particular pages.
Despite starting off super fundamental, the form designer allows you To customize everything in the kind style, subjects, background, title, enter fields and, of course, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To visualize your backup in real time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there is more to some form than just its appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure the way the Form works, including adding extra fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success page…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, That can replace the embedded kind and prevents users .
Last but certainly not least, you Can assess the way your form displays on cellular by switching the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t be able to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that’s an Summary of this Embedded form but like I said before, you can even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of this installation Procedure is identical, you will find A few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive choice, they do provide a fantastic foundation to work from and the editor is at least as easy to use for this form type.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template requires me into a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new choices under form types Now around:
Contemplating paid programs like Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup forms.
And, like before, you can perform the styling options to get it Matched up with your branding.
Last, you can choose the near Behavior of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text choice, or have both.
That is where most email Marketing platforms will render you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click info, Subscriber growth, automation analytics, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special reporting for that effort.
This is where you’ll find some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average user…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into individual areas of this report for a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also shows a click map, so You can see your readers interacted with your mails compared to one another.
Reports for automations are also Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, though I found these to be less enlightening than effort reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and many will get the available statistics more than enough to meet their needs.
What is email marketing with no dashboard of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this review.
The great news? If you’ve ever used a visual workflow builder, then You’ll instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something which certainly can’t be said for each and every email advertising software.
After setting your trigger, you can begin adding measures to your workflow.
These measures can be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a bubble break, or an act, like transferring a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For example, there’s currently no automation for moving Subscribers directly into a different automation.
That being said, the Majority of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various classes that trigger new automation workflows. It’s just much less effective…. yet.
Another question of efficacy here is when creating new mails From the automation workflow builder.
After having an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your topic line which appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the critique.
This time, but once you’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email will probably be Loaded into your own automation.
A nice touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation cube, which means it’s possible to find an idea of what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is actually much faster than what I’m used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, you’ll likely find that this downgrade in functionality.
It’s quick enough for me, Personally, but I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there is 1 type of automation You will not find in MailerLite, also I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on how Readers interact with the pages on your site.
This kind of behavioral targeting only is not accessible MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or plan to use, you might want to skip this one. Mailerlite Gem Rails
The Price of MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the tools biggest Selling things, and let us face it, we all love a fantastic bargain.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All features (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding on your mails using this plan, it’s still an wonderful alternative for anyone starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It ends up, at around half the Price of the competition on average, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the least expensive options on the market. Plus, if you are ready to pay annually, you can also get a much better discount.
In fact, I have not been able to locate anything that does exactly the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among the few marketing tools The (very crowded) sector in recent decades, and that’s no easy feat.
While it’s not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
Overall, I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and all at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to beat.
Thinking of giving it a spin? Let us know how it works for you From the remarks. Mailerlite Gem Rails
