Introduction Mailerlite Groups
When I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what could you say? Mailerlite Groups
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online industries today, email marketing continues to be Dominated by the same large players for the last ten years. Which means they get encouraged very deeply and accomplish a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, causing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.
So now, in this review, I will be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to see if it stands its own ground against the big boys…
…and, more importantly, whether youshould consider making the switch.

Like most email advertising providers these days, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the program.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your organization name, website, Industry, address, company size, record size and even the type of content you plan to send.
Then, You Have to confirm your Site (or domain name).
This is still part of the approval process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is associated to that domain in order that they could email you a confirmation link.
As Soon as You’ve completed those Measures, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, check your Site, and determine whether you are a good match for their services.
(In other words, they are making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to use the software to create campaigns and play with the attributes, but you won’t have the ability to send anything before approved.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
However, while these measures aren’t perfect for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from hurting everyone else’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to handle The majority of your email marketing.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, don’t worry.)
But whether it’s a new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Create Campaign’ will give you several options.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Versions, such as subject line, from title and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Don’t open your broadcast email, with the choice of changing the subject line and email articles.
– RSS campaign: Create a recurring campaign That sends new content to readers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added options, the Majority of these will follow The exact same step-by-step procedure of a standard effort.
So let us walk you through it.
As Soon as You click to create your effort, you’ll be requested to Select a favorite editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can switch to the Templates tab and choose from among the pre-designed email templates — that will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
At the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to select From which is somewhat on the low side, but the layouts are super modern.
And, of course, if you’d just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I’ll choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to use, Which makes viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the blocks in the sidebar to add different Types of content to your email, including videos, merchandise columns, and societal links.
After making your changes, just click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be carried to the recipients’ options where you are able to select your groups or segments.
The tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules , in case your targeting isn’t quite right.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get to the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, if that is immediately, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Mailerlite Groups
Handling Your Clients
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably among The most important aspects of any email marketing software now.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You are looking to increase clicks, opens, and, most importantly, your own conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”tag” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different approach.
When you start up your subscriber dash, you’ll notice two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially principles.
Your readers belong to a segment only when they meet the Specified principles, and are automatically inserted or eliminated accordingly.
Here is what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice how you can also blend Rules, in addition to an alternate rule when the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for groups, and despite the difference in name, These behave much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or through an Automation principle — which we will get to in a moment — and they have no value besides what you call them.
As you start to use this platform, you’ll Start to understand Where Segments and Groups are typically used, but MailerLite offers a hand in the event you’re unsure:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments permit you to bulge multiple subscribers collectively according to a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I will admit… but I believe it is a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. In any case, they’re optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their particular areas, such as title, business, and country.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your subscribers along with Your custom field data in distinct columns… or may simply add these fields to your forms which will only apply to future subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added into a form:
I won’t go too much to the form Stuff here since I have a whole section on this below, but this is the approach I’d recommend if you wanted to use this attribute.
Again, as Soon as You’ve collected your custom field data from fresh Readers, you can pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Customized field.
I’m barely scratching the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it’s important to know this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it is reasonable to state MailerLite has their contributor Management and personalization features on point. Mailerlite Groups
If you’re not impressed by what you have seen up to Now, then maybe The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, you’ll be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, it will offer a great foundation to work from if, for example most of us, you do not have that pure eye for design.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, however They all ultimately do the same task; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further construct or change your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual site builders, and this is better than a few dedicated alternatives *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the fundamental building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
No, it will not be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite actually offers a Adequate pair of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there’s a lot to cover here.
Let’s start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then place on your website to show it on specific pages.
Despite starting off super fundamental, the form designer lets you To customize everything from the form style, subjects, background, title, enter fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which gives you a Opportunity To envision your own backup in real time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there’s more to some form than just its physical appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure the way the Form works, including adding extra fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And talking of the success page…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, That will replace the embedded form also prevents users .
Last but surely not least, you Can check the way your form displays on cellular by switching the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t be able to make any design changes , but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that’s an Summary of the Embedded form but as I said before, you may even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of the installation process is identical, there are A few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive choice, they do offer a fantastic base to work from and the editor is at least as simple to use for this form type.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template takes me into a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new choices under form types This time around:
Considering paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup types.
And, like before, you can play the styling options to get it Matched with your own branding.
Last, you can choose the near Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have .
This is where most email Marketing platforms will leave you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you specific coverage for that effort.
This is where you’ll discover a few more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of the report to get a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Email’ tab also shows a click map, so You can see your readers interacted with your mails in relation to another.
Reports for automations are also Available under the’Automations’ tab, although I found to be less enlightening than effort reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and many will get the available data more than enough to fulfill their needs.
What’s email marketing without a dash of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this review.
The good news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, then You will immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is simple, clean and simple to navigate — something which certainly can not be said for each and every email marketing program.
After establishing your trigger, you can begin adding measures to your workflow.
These steps could be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a bubble break, or an act, such as moving a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed when they don’t open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite ought to not have any trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign since it lacks a number of the conditional elements. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.)
For example, there’s currently no automation for transferring Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, most of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various classes that trigger new automation workflows. It’s just not as effective…. yet.
Another matter of efficacy here is when creating new mails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your subject line which then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the review.
This time, however, once you’ve established your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending alternatives.
Finally, your email address will probably be Loaded into your own automation.
A nice touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation block, so it’s possible to find an concept of what it contains at a glimpse.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on paper, it’s really much faster than what I am utilized to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, so you’ll probably find that this downgrade in performance.
It is quick enough for me, Personally, but I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there is 1 Kind of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, also that I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or step) based on how Readers interact with the webpages on your site.
This Sort of behavioral targeting only is not accessible MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or plan to utilize, you might want to skip this one. Mailerlite Groups
The cost of MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the tools biggest Selling things, and let us face it, most of us love a fantastic bargain.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) to get as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding on your emails using this program, it is still an wonderful alternative for anyone starting out.
And what about the top programs?
It ends up, at around half of the Cost of this rivalry generally, MailerLite is by far one of the cheapest options available on the market. Additionally, if you are ready to pay yearly, you are also able to get an even greater discount.
In Reality, I haven’t been able to find anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among the email advertising tools The (very crowded) sector in recent decades, which is no simple feat.
While it’s not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
All in all, I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and all at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to beat.
