When I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what could you say? Mailerlite Logo
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online businesses now, email marketing has been Dominated by the same big players for the last decade. Which means they get promoted very heavily and accomplish a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, inducing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.

Like most email advertising providers Nowadays, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information like your company name, site, Business, address, company size, list size and even the kind of material you intend to send.
Then, you need to confirm your Website (or domain name).
This is still part of this acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is associated to that domain so they could email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed those Measures, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Site, and ascertain whether you’re a fantastic match for their services.
(In other words, they’re making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll still be Able to use the software to create campaigns and perform with the attributes, but you will not be able to send anything before approved.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
However, while these steps are not perfect for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from damaging everyone else’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to handle The majority of your email marketing.
(We will get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But whether it is a new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always some excuse to send a more immediate email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Produce Campaign’ will provide you several choices.
– Regular campaign: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Versions, including subject line, from title and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Don’t start your broadcast email, with the choice of changing the subject line and email articles.
– RSS effort: Produce a recurring campaign That sends new content to subscribers using your website’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few additional options, the Majority of these will follow The same step-by-step process of a normal campaign.
So let us walk you through it.
As Soon as You click on to create your campaign, you’ll be asked to Select a preferred editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can switch to the Templates tab and choose from among the pre-designed email templates — which will move you to the dragn’ drop editor .
In the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to select From which is a little on the low side, however, the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you would just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I will choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to add distinct Kinds of content to your email, such as videos, product columns, and societal connections.
After making your adjustments, simply click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be carried to the recipients’ choices where you can select your classes or sections.
The advanced tab also allows one To build segment-like rules , in case your targeting is not quite right.
Finally, before sending, you’ll get into the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, if that is immediately, at a set time/date, or according to your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Mailerlite Logo
Handling Your Clients
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably one of The most essential aspects of any email marketing program now.
Because highly personalized campaigns are necessary if You’re looking to increase opens, clicks, and, most importantly, your conversions.
And while most providers Permit You to”tag” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different strategy.
When you start up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically principles.
Your readers belong to a section only when they fulfill the Specified rules, and will be automatically inserted or eliminated accordingly.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can also blend Rules, as well as another rule if the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for classes, and also the difference in name, These behave much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but finally decided against it.)
Unlike Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation principle — that we’ll get into in a moment — and they don’t have any value besides what you call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in the event you’re unsure:
Fundamentally, groups are much more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments permit you to bulge multiple subscribers together based on a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I’ll admit… but I believe it is a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. In any case, they’re optional.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their own fields, such as title, business, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your subscribers together with Your custom field data in separate columns… or may easily add these fields to a types which will only apply to prospective readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added into a form:
I won’t go too much into the shape Stuff here because I have a whole section on that below, but this is the strategy I would recommend if you wanted to use this feature.
Again, once you’ve collected your custom field data from fresh Readers, you are able to pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Customized field.
I am barely scraping the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it’s important that you understand that this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it is reasonable to state MailerLite has their contributor Direction and personalization features on point. Mailerlite Logo
If you’re not impressed by what you have seen up to Now, then perhaps The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, then you’ll be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, but it does offer a great base to work from if, for example most of us, you don’t have that pure eye for design.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, though They ultimately do the same job; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further construct or alter your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual page builders, and it is already better than a few dedicated alternatives *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the basic building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
No, it will not be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all three form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite really Provides a Adequate pair of type building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there’s a lot to cover .
Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then place on your site to display it on specific pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer lets you To personalize everything from the kind style, fields, background, name, enter fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To envision your own copy in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there is more to some form than simply its appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure the way the Form works, such as adding extra fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And talking of the success page…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, That will replace the embedded kind and prevents users .
Last but surely not least, you Can check how your form screens on mobile by switching the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t be able to make any design changes , but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of this Embedded form but like I said before, you can also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of the setup Procedure is identical, there are A few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth choice, they do provide a fantastic foundation to work from and the editor is just as simple to use for this form type.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template requires me into a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new options under form types This time around:
Contemplating paid programs such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup forms.
And, as before, you can perform with the styling options to get it Matched with your own branding.
Finally, you can Select the near Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text choice, or have both.
This is where most email Marketing platforms would render you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Data in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click data, Subscriber development, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special coverage for this campaign.
This is where you’ll find some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying surroundings, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of the report for a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also shows a click map, so It’s possible to see your subscribers interacted with your emails in relation to one another.
Reports for automations are also Available under the’Automations’ tab, though I found these to be less enlightening than campaign reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and most will find the available statistics more than sufficient to meet their needs.
What is email marketing without a dash of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this particular review.
The good news? If you’ve ever used a visual workflow builder, then You’ll immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is simple, clean and simple to navigate — something that certainly can not be said for each and every email marketing software.
After establishing your trigger, you can Start adding measures to your workflow.
These steps could be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a conditional split, or an act, such as moving a contributor or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they don’t open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite ought to not have any trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional elements. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.)
For Instance, there’s now no automation for moving Readers directly into another automation.
That being said, most of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various classes that activate new automation workflows. It is simply much less effective…. yet.
Another question of efficacy here is when generating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After having an email cube to The workflow, you’ll be asked to add your topic line which then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the critique.
This time, however, once you’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you straight back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email will be Loaded into your own automation.
A Wonderful touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation block, which means it’s possible to get an concept of what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is actually much quicker than what I’m utilized to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, you will probably find that this downgrade in performance.
It is fast enough for me, Personally, however I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there’s one Kind of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and that I think that it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or measure ) based on how Subscribers interact with all the webpages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting only isn’t accessible MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or intend to use, you may want to skip this one. Mailerlite Logo
The Price of MailerLite is one of those tools biggest Selling things, and let’s face it, we all love a fantastic deal.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All features (including premium) for as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your emails using this plan, it’s still an wonderful alternative for anyone starting out.
And what about the premium plans?
It turns out, at approximately half the Price of this rivalry on average, MailerLite is by far one of the least expensive options available on the industry. Plus, if you’re ready to pay yearly, you are also able to get a much better discount.
In Reality, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of those few marketing tools to interrupt The (very crowded) sector in recent years, which is no simple feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and all at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to conquer.
Thinking about giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you In the remarks. Mailerlite Logo
