Introduction Mailerlite Newsletter
When I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what could you say? Mailerlite Newsletter
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online industries today, email advertising continues to be Dominated by the identical big players for the last ten years. Which means they get encouraged very deeply and achieve a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, causing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So today, in this review, I will be ripping MailerLite from limb To limb to find out if it stands its ground against the big boys…

Like most email advertising providers these days, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the program.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information like your company name, site, Business, address, company size, record size and also the type of content you intend to send.
Then, You Have to confirm your Website (or domain ).
This is still part of the approval process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is associated to that domain in order that they could email you a confirmation link.
As Soon as You’ve completed those Steps, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Website, and ascertain whether you’re a fantastic fit for their service.
(Quite simply, they are making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and play with the attributes, but you will not have the ability to send anything until approved.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
However, while these measures are not ideal for getting started, it Does help stop unscrupulous users from damaging everybody’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to handle Nearly all your email marketing.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, don’t worry.)
But whether it is a brand new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always some excuse to send a more immediate email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Produce Campaign’ will give you several options.
– Regular campaign: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Variations, such as subject line, from name and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Don’t start your broadcast email, with the choice of changing the subject line and email content.
– RSS campaign: Produce a recurring campaign That sends new content to subscribers using your site’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few additional options, the Majority of these will follow The exact same step-by-step procedure of a normal campaign.
So let us walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your effort, you’ll be asked to Pick a preferred editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can switch to the Templates tab and select from one of the pre-designed email templates — that will move you to the dragn’ drop editor by default.
At the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to select From which is somewhat on the low side, however, the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you’d just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I’ll choose the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Making customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the blocks in the sidebar to add different Types of content to your email, such as videos, merchandise columns, and societal connections.
After making your changes, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be taken to the recipients’ options where you are able to select your classes or segments.
The tab also allows one To build segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, right before sending, you’ll get into the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, if that is immediately, at a set time/date, or according to your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Mailerlite Newsletter
Managing Your Clients
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably one of The most essential facets of any email advertising program today.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You are looking to increase opens, clicks, and, most importantly, your own conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”label” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different approach.
When you open up your subscriber dash, you’ll see two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your subscribers belong to a segment only when they meet the Specified principles, and will be automatically added or eliminated so.
Here is what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can also combine Principles, as well as an alternate rule if the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for classes, and despite the difference in name, These behave much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Unlike Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or via an Automation rule — that we’ll get to in a minute — and they have no value aside from what you call them.
As you Begin to use this platform, you’ll Start to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, but MailerLite delivers a hand in the event you’re uncertain:
Fundamentally, groups are much more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments permit you to bulge multiple subscribers together based on a frequent denominator.
A tad confusing, I’ll admit… but I believe it is a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. Besides, they are discretionary.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their own areas, such as title, company, and nation.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers together with Your custom field data in separate columns… or can simply add these fields to a forms which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I made and added to a form:
I won’t go too much to the shape Things here because I have a whole section on that below, but this is the approach I’d recommend if you wanted to use this attribute.
Again, as Soon as You’ve gathered your custom field data from fresh Subscribers, you can pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I’m barely scraping the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it’s important to know that this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it’s fair to state MailerLite has their contributor Direction and personalization features on stage. Mailerlite Newsletter
If you’re not impressed with what you have seen so far, then perhaps The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, then you’ll be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, it will offer a great base to work from if, for example the majority people, you don’t have that pure eye for layout.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, though They ultimately do the same task; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further construct or alter your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual site builders, and it is better than a few dedicated alternatives *cough* WPBakery.
Together with the basic building blocks, you can use components like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
It will not be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all 3 form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually Provides a Adequate set of form building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there’s a whole lot to cover here.
Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then put on your website to display it on specific pages.
Despite beginning super basic, the form designer allows you To customize everything from the kind style, fields, background, title, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To envision your own backup in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there is more to some form than just its appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure the way the Form functions, such as adding extra fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And talking of the success page…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, That can replace the embedded form also prevents users .
Last but surely not least, you Can check the way your form displays on cellular by shifting the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that’s an overview of the Embedded form but as I said before, you can even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of this setup process is identical, there are Still a few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth selection, they do offer a good foundation to work from and the editor is at least as simple to use with this form type.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template requires me to a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new options under form types Now around:
Contemplating paid programs like Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup types.
And, as before, you can play with the styling options to get it Matched with your branding.
Finally, you can Select the close Behavior of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
This is really where most email Marketing platforms would leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click info, Subscriber development, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you specific coverage for this effort.
This is where you’ll find a few more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying surroundings, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average user…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into individual areas of the report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Email’ tab also shows a click map, so You can see your readers interacted to one another.
Reports for automations are also Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, though I found these to be less insightful than effort reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and most will find the available statistics more than sufficient to fulfill their demands.
What’s email advertising with no dashboard of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this particular review.
The good news? If you’ve used a visual workflow builder, then You’ll instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is easy, clean and simple to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for every email marketing software.
After establishing your trigger, you can begin adding measures to your workflow.
These measures could be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a bubble break, or an action, such as transferring a contributor or upgrading their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I put together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within seven days.
There are innumerable Possibilities in regards to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.)
For Instance, there’s now no automation for transferring Subscribers directly into a different automation.
That being said, the Majority of these actions can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that activate new automation workflows. It is simply much less efficient…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when creating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After having an email block to The workflow, you’ll be asked to put in your subject line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the critique.
This time, however, once you’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you back into the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email address will be Loaded into your own automation.
A nice touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation block, which means you can get an concept of what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on paper, it’s really much quicker than what I’m used to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, so you will likely find that this downgrade in performance.
It’s quick enough for me, Personally, but I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there’s 1 Kind of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and that I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or measure ) based on how Subscribers interact with all the pages on your site.
This kind of behavioral targeting just is not available in MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or intend to utilize, you might want to skip this one. Mailerlite Newsletter
The cost of MailerLite is undoubtedly one of those tools largest Selling things, and let us face it, we all love a fantastic deal.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All features (including premium) for up to 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding in your emails using this plan, it is still an amazing alternative for anyone starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It ends up, at approximately half of the Price of this competition generally, MailerLite is by far one of the cheapest options on the market. Plus, if you’re ready to pay yearly, you are also able to get an even better discount.
In fact, I have not been able to locate anything that does exactly the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of the email marketing tools The (very crowded) sector in the last couple of decades, and that’s no easy feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and all at a price point you will seriously struggle to conquer.
Thinking about giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you From the comments. Mailerlite Newsletter
