Like most online industries today, email marketing continues to be Dominated by the same big players for the previous ten years. Which means that they get promoted very heavily and achieve a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, inducing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So now, in this review, I’ll be ripping MailerLite from limb To limb to see whether it really stands its own ground against the big boys…
…and, what’s more, whether youshould consider making the switch.

Like most email advertising providers these days, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the software.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, website, Business, address, company size, record size and even the kind of material you plan to send.
Then, You Have to verify your Site (or domain ).
This remains part of this acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is associated to this domain so they could email you a verification link.
As Soon as You’ve completed these Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Site, and determine whether you are a good match for their service.
(Quite simply, they are making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll still be Able to use the software to create campaigns and play with the features, but you will not be able to send anything until accepted.

After making your changes, just click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be carried to the recipients’ choices where you can choose your classes or segments.
The advanced tab also allows you To build segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting is not quite right.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get into the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, if that is immediately, at a set time/date, or according to your subscribers time zones.

Managing Your Subscribers
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably among The most important aspects of any email marketing program today.
Because highly personalized campaigns Are Essential if You are looking to increase clicks, opens, and, most importantly, your own conversions.
And while many providers allow you to”tag” subscribers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different approach.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your readers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified rules, and will be automatically inserted or eliminated so.
Here is what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can also blend Rules, in addition to an alternate rule if the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for groups, and despite the difference in title, These behave much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it)
Unlike Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation rule — that we’ll get into in a moment — and they have no value aside from what you actually call them.
As you Begin to use this platform, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, but MailerLite delivers a hand in the event you’re unsure:
Fundamentally, groups are more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple subscribers collectively according to a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I’ll admit… but I believe it’s a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. In any case, they are optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their particular areas, such as title, business, and nation.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your subscribers along with Your custom field data in distinct columns… or can easily add these fields to a types which will only apply to prospective subscribers.

I will not go too much into the form Stuff here since I have a whole section on this below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wanted to use this feature.

Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then place on your site to display it on particular pages.
Despite starting off super fundamental, the form designer allows you To customize everything from the kind style, fields, background, name, input fields and, clearly, the button.

You won’t be able to make any layout changes , but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that’s an overview of the Embedded form but as I said before, you can even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of this setup process is identical, there are A few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth choice, they do provide a good base to work from and the editor is at least as simple to use with this form kind.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template requires me into a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new choices under form types Now around:

Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click info, Subscriber development, automation analytics, and kind signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you special reporting for that effort.
This is where you’ll discover some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading surroundings, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average user…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of the report to get a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.

What’s email marketing without a dashboard of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this review.
The great news? If you’ve used a visual workflow builder, then You’ll immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can not be said for every email advertising software.
After setting your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These steps can be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a conditional split, or an action, such as moving a subscriber or upgrading their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they do not open my email within seven days.
There are countless Possibilities in regards to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional elements. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s currently no automation for transferring Readers directly into another automation.
That being said, most of these actions can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that trigger new automation workflows. It’s just much less efficient…. yet.
Another matter of efficacy here is when generating new emails From the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email block to The workflow, you will be asked to add your topic line which appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the review.
This time, however, once you’ve created your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you back into the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Finally, your email will probably be Loaded into your own automation.
A nice touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation block, which means you can find an idea of what it contains at a glimpse.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is really much faster than what I’m utilized to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, so you’ll probably find this a downgrade in functionality.
It is quick enough for me, Personally, however I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there is one type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, also I think it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on how Readers interact with the webpages on your website.

And what about the premium programs?
It turns out, at around half of the Cost of this rivalry generally, MailerLite is by far among the cheapest options on the market. Additionally, if you’re willing to pay annually, you are also able to get a much greater discount.
In fact, I have not been able to locate anything that does the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of those few email marketing tools to disrupt The (very crowded) sector in recent decades, which is no simple feat.
While it’s not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and at a price point you will seriously struggle to conquer.
