Background Mailerlite Users
When I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what would you say? Mailerlite Users
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online businesses now, email marketing continues to be Dominated by the identical big players for the last ten years. Which means that they get encouraged very deeply and achieve a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, inducing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.
So now, in this review, I will be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to find out whether it stands its own ground against the big boys…

Like most email advertising providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the software.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information like your organization name, site, Industry, address, business size, list size and also the kind of content you plan to send.
Then, You Have to verify your Website (or domain ).
This is still part of this acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is related to that domain so they can email you a confirmation link.
As Soon as You’ve completed those Measures, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, check your Site, and determine whether you’re a good match for their service.
(Quite simply, they are making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to use the software to create campaigns and play with the attributes, but you will not be able to send anything until accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
But while these steps aren’t ideal for getting started, it Does help stop unscrupulous users from damaging everyone else’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to Deal with Nearly all your email marketing.
(We will get to automations shortly, do not worry.)
But whether it’s a brand new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always some excuse to send a more instant email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Create Campaign’ will give you several choices.
– Regular effort: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Versions, such as subject line, from title and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Don’t open your broadcast email, with the option of changing the subject line and email content.
– RSS campaign: Create a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to subscribers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few additional choices, most of these will follow The same step-by-step procedure of a standard campaign.
So let us walk you through it.
As Soon as You click to create your campaign, you’ll be asked to Select a preferred editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can change to the Templates tab and choose from among the pre-designed email templates — that will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
At the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to choose From which is somewhat on the low side, however, the layouts are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you’d just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I’ll choose the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to use, Which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to include different Kinds of articles to your email, including videos, product columns, and social links.
After making your adjustments, just click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be carried to the recipients’ options where you can select your classes or sections.
The advanced tab also allows you To build segment-like rules , in the event your targeting is not quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get into the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, whether that’s immediately, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Mailerlite Users
Handling Your Clients
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably one of The most important aspects of any email marketing program now.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You’re looking to increase opens, clicks, and, most importantly, your conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”tag” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different strategy.
When you start up your subscriber dash, you’ll see two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your readers belong to a section only when they fulfill the Specified rules, and will be automatically added or eliminated accordingly.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice how you can also combine Rules, as well as another rule if the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for groups, and also the difference in name, These behave much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or through an Automation rule — that we will get to in a moment — and they have no value besides what you call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in the event you’re unsure:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments permit you to lump multiple contributors collectively according to a frequent denominator.
A tad confusing, I will admit… but I believe it’s a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. In any case, they are discretionary.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their own fields, such as name, company, and nation.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers together with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or may easily add these fields to your forms which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I created and added into a form:
I will not go too much to the shape Stuff here since I have a whole section on this below, but this is the strategy I would recommend if you wanted to use this attribute.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field information from fresh Readers, you are able to pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Customized field.
I am barely scraping the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it’s important to know this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it’s reasonable to say MailerLite has their contributor Management and personalization features on point. Mailerlite Users
If you are not impressed by what you’ve seen so far, then maybe The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, you will be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Isn’t winning any awards, it will offer a fantastic foundation to work from if, like the majority people, you don’t have that pure eye for layout.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, however They finally do the identical job; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further construct or alter your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual site builders, and this is better than some dedicated alternatives *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the basic building blocks, you can use elements like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
It will not be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually Provides a Decent set of type building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there is a whole lot to cover .
Let us begin with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then put on your site to display it on particular pages.
Despite beginning super fundamental, the form designer allows you To personalize everything in the kind style, fields, background, title, enter fields and, of course, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which Provides you a Opportunity To visualize your copy in real-time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there’s more to some form than just its physical appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form works, such as adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is even a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And talking of the success page…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, Which will replace the embedded kind and prevents users .
Last but certainly not least, you Can check the way your form displays on cellular by shifting the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that’s an Summary of this Embedded form but like I said before, you can also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the installation process is identical, there are Still a few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth choice, they do provide a good base to work from and the editor is at least as easy to use with this form kind.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template requires me to a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new options under form types This time around:
Contemplating paid tools like Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to observe this amount of control over popup forms.
And, as before, you can perform with the styling options to get it Matched with your own branding.
Finally, you can Select the close Behavior of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text choice, or have .
That is really where most email Marketing platforms would leave you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Data in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you specific coverage for this campaign.
This is where you’ll discover some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying surroundings, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of this report for a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
For example, the’View Email’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see exactly how your subscribers interacted to another.
Reports for automations are also Available under the’Automations’ tab, although I found to be less insightful than effort reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and most will find the available statistics more than sufficient to fulfill their needs.
What is email marketing with no dash of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this review.
The good news? If you have used a visual workflow builder, then You’ll immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is simple, clean and simple to navigate — something that certainly can not be said for each and every email marketing software.
After establishing your trigger, you can Start adding measures to your workflow.
These steps can be anything from sending an email, including a Delay, a bubble break, or an action, like moving a subscriber or upgrading their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I put together, where readers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within seven days.
There are innumerable Possibilities in regards to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign since it lacks some of the conditional elements. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s now no automation for moving Subscribers directly into a different automation.
That being said, most of these activities can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that activate new automation workflows. It’s just much less efficient…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when generating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email block to The workflow, you’ll be asked to add your topic line which then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the review.
This time, but once you’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email will probably be Loaded into your automation.
A Wonderful touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation cube, which means it’s possible to get an concept of what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on paper, it’s actually much quicker than what I’m used to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, you will probably find that this downgrade in performance.
It is fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there is 1 Kind of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, also I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on the way Subscribers interact with the webpages on your website.
This Sort of behavioral targeting just isn’t accessible MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or plan to use, you may want to skip this one. Mailerlite Users
The Price of MailerLite is among those tools largest Selling points, and let’s face it, we all love a fantastic deal.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) to get as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding on your emails using this plan, it is still an wonderful option for anyone starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It turns out, at around half the Price of the competition generally, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the least expensive options on the industry. Additionally, if you are ready to pay yearly, you can also get an even greater discount.
In fact, I have not been able to find anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among the few email marketing tools to interrupt The (very crowded) industry in the last couple of years, and that’s no simple feat.
While it’s not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and all at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to conquer.
Thinking about giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you In the comments. Mailerlite Users
