Introduction Mautic Email Marketing
When I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what would you say? Mautic Email Marketing
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online industries today, email marketing continues to be Dominated by the same large players for the previous decade. Which means they get encouraged very deeply and achieve a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, causing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So today, in this short article, I’ll be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to see if it really stands its own ground against the big boys…

Like most email advertising providers these days, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information such as your organization name, site, Business, address, business size, list size and even the kind of material you plan to send.
Then, you need to confirm your Website (or domain ).
This is still part of this approval process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is related to that domain so they could email you a confirmation link.
Once you’ve completed those Steps, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, check your Site, and determine whether you are a good match for their service.
(Quite simply, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and play with the attributes, but you will not be able to send anything before approved.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these steps are not perfect for getting started, it Does help prevent malicious users from damaging everybody’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to handle Nearly all your email marketing.
(We’ll get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But if it is a new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more instant email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Produce Campaign’ will give you several choices.
– Regular effort: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Variations, such as subject line, from name and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Don’t open your broadcast email, together with the choice of changing the subject line and email articles.
– RSS campaign: Produce a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to readers using your website’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few additional choices, most of these will follow Exactly the same step-by-step procedure of a standard campaign.
So let’s walk you through it.
As Soon as You click to create your campaign, you’ll be asked to Pick a preferred editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can change to the Templates tab and choose from among their pre-designed email templates — that will move you to the dragn’ drop editor by default.
In the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to select From which is a little on the low side, but the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you’d just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I’ll select the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Making viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the blocks in the sidebar to include different Types of content to your email, including videos, product columns, and societal connections.
After making your adjustments, simply click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be carried to the recipients’ options where you are able to choose your classes or sections.
The tab also allows one To develop segment-like rules , in case your targeting is not quite right.
Finally, right before sending, then you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, whether that’s immediately, at a set time/date, or according to your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Mautic Email Marketing
Managing Your Clients
Having granular control over your readers is arguably one of The most important aspects of any email marketing software today.
Because highly personalized efforts Are Essential if You are searching to increase opens, clicks, and, above all, your conversions.
And while most providers allow you to”tag” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different strategy.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially principles.
Your readers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified principles, and are automatically inserted or removed so.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice how you can also blend Rules, in addition to another rule when the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for classes, and despite the difference in title, These behave much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it.)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation rule — that we will get to in a moment — and they don’t have any value besides what you call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand Where Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in case you’re uncertain:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments permit you to lump multiple contributors together based on a common denominator.
A tad confusing, I will admit… but I feel it’s a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. In any case, they’re discretionary.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own fields, such as title, business, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers together with Your custom field data in distinct columns… or may simply add these fields to your forms which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added to a form:
I will not go too much to the shape Stuff here because I have an entire section on this below, but this is the approach I would recommend if you wished to use this feature.
Again, once you’ve collected your custom field information from fresh Subscribers, you can pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I’m barely scraping the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it’s important that you know this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it is reasonable to state MailerLite has their subscriber Direction and personalization features on stage. Mautic Email Marketing
If you are not impressed with what you’ve seen up to Now, then maybe The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, you will be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, but it does offer a fantastic foundation to work from if, for example the majority of us, you do not have that pure eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, however They ultimately do the identical job; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or change your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual page builders, and it is better than a few dedicated alternatives *Infection * WPBakery.
Together with the fundamental building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
No, it will not be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually offers a Adequate pair of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there’s a whole lot to cover here.
Let’s start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then put on your website to display it on particular pages.
Despite beginning super fundamental, the form designer lets you To personalize everything from the kind style, fields, background, title, enter fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which Provides you a Opportunity To visualize your copy in real-time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there is more to some form than just its appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure how the Form functions, such as adding extra fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And talking of the success page…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, Which will replace the embedded form also prevents users .
Last but surely not least, you Can check the way your form displays on mobile by shifting the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t be able to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that is an Summary of the Embedded form but as I said before, you can even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of this setup process is identical, there are Still a few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth selection, they do offer a good foundation to work from and the editor is at least as easy to use for this form type.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template requires me to a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new options under form types This time around:
Contemplating paid programs such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this amount of control over popup forms.
And, like before, you can play with the styling options to get it Matched up with your own branding.
Finally, you can choose the close Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text choice, or have .
This is where most email Marketing platforms would leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber development, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special coverage for that effort.
This is where you’ll discover some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into different areas of the report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Mail’ tab also shows a click map, so You can see your subscribers interacted with your emails in relation to another.
Reports for automations are also Available under the’Automations’ tab, even though I found these to be less insightful than campaign reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and many will get the available statistics more than enough to fulfill their demands.
What is email marketing with no dashboard of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this particular review.
The great news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, You’ll instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is easy, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for every email advertising program.
After establishing your trigger, you can Start adding steps to your workflow.
These steps could be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a bubble break, or an action, such as moving a contributor or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed if they don’t open my email within 7 days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite ought to have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign because it lacks a number of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.)
For example, there’s now no automation for moving Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, the Majority of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various classes that trigger new automation workflows. It is just much less efficient…. yet.
Another matter of efficiency here is when creating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email block to The workflow, you will be asked to add your topic line which appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the critique.
This time, but once you’ve created your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you straight back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email address will be Loaded into your own automation.
A nice touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation cube, which means it’s possible to get an idea about what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on paper, it’s actually much faster than what I am utilized to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, so you will likely find this a downgrade in functionality.
It’s quick enough for me, Personally, however I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there is one Kind of automation You will not find in MailerLite, also I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on how Readers interact with all the pages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting just is not accessible MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or intend to use, you might want to skip this one. Mautic Email Marketing
The cost of MailerLite is one of those tools biggest Selling things, and let us face it, most of us love a fantastic deal.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) to get as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding on your mails using this program, it’s still an amazing alternative for those starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It turns out, at around half of the Price of the competition generally, MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the least expensive options on the industry. Plus, if you’re willing to pay annually, you can also get a much better discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of the very few email advertising tools to interrupt The (very crowded) sector in recent decades, and that’s no easy feat.
While it’s not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and all at a price point you will seriously struggle to conquer.
