MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online businesses now, email advertising has been Dominated by the same big players for the last decade. Which means they get promoted very heavily and achieve a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, causing long-time users to question their loyalties.

Like most email marketing providers these days, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the software.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information like your organization name, website, Industry, address, business size, list size and even the kind of material you plan to send.
Then, you need to confirm your Website (or domain ).
This remains part of the approval process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is associated to that domain so they can email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed those Measures, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, check your Website, and determine whether you are a good fit for their services.
(In other words, they’re making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to utilize the software to make campaigns and perform with the features, but you won’t have the ability to send anything until approved.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
However, while these steps aren’t ideal for getting started, it Does help stop unscrupulous users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to handle The majority of your email marketing.
(We will get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But whether it is a new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always some excuse to send a more instant email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Produce Campaign’ will give you several options.
– Regular campaign: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Versions, including subject line, from title and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Don’t start your broadcast email, together with the option of altering the subject line and email content.
– RSS effort: Create a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to readers using your site’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few additional options, the Majority of these will follow The exact same step-by-step procedure of a standard effort.
So let’s walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your campaign, you’ll be asked to Select a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can switch to the Templates tab and choose from among the pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor .
At the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to choose From which is somewhat on the low side, but the layouts are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you’d just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I will choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to include distinct Kinds of content to your email, such as videos, merchandise columns, and social connections.
After making your adjustments, just click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be carried to the recipients’ options where you are able to choose your classes or segments.
The tab also allows one To build segment-like rules , in case your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get into the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, whether that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Miller Lite New Campaign
Handling Your Subscribers
Having granular control over your readers is arguably one of The most essential aspects of any email advertising software today.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You are searching to increase opens, clicks, and, most importantly, your conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”label” readers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different approach.
When you open up your subscriber dash, you’ll see two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your readers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified principles, and are automatically added or removed accordingly.
Here is what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even combine Principles, as well as another rule if the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for classes, and despite the difference in name, These behave much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or through an Automation rule — which we will get into in a minute — and they don’t have any value besides what you call them.
As you Begin to use this platform, you’ll begin to understand Where Segments and Groups are generally used, but MailerLite offers a hand in case you’re uncertain:
Fundamentally, groups are much more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments permit you to lump multiple subscribers together according to a frequent denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I will admit… but I feel it is a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. Besides, they are optional.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their own fields, such as name, company, and country.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your subscribers along with Your custom field data in distinct columns… or may easily add these fields to a forms which will only apply to future subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I created and added to a form:
I won’t go too much into the shape Things here since I have a whole section on that below, but this is the strategy I would recommend if you wanted to use this feature.
Again, once you’ve collected your custom field information from new Readers, you can pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I’m barely scratching the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it’s important to understand this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it’s reasonable to say MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on point. Miller Lite New Campaign
If you are not impressed with what you’ve seen so far, then perhaps The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, you will be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Isn’t winning any awards, but it will offer a great foundation to work from if, for example the majority people, you don’t have that pure eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, though They all ultimately do the same job; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further build or alter your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual site builders, and it is already better than some dedicated alternatives *Infection * WPBakery.
Together with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero segments, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
No, it won’t be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all three kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually Provides a Adequate pair of type building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there is a lot to cover here.
Let’s begin with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then put on your website to show it on particular pages.
Despite beginning super fundamental, the form designer lets you To customize everything in the kind style, subjects, background, title, enter fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which Provides you a Opportunity To envision your own backup in real-time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there is more to a form than simply its physical appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure the way the Form functions, such as adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And talking of the success page…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, That will replace the embedded form also prevents users from redirecting.
Last but certainly not least, you Can check the way your form displays on cellular by shifting the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t be able to make any design changes here, but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of this Embedded form but like I said before, you can also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the installation Procedure is identical, there are Still a few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive choice, they do provide a fantastic foundation to work from and the editor is just as simple to use with this form kind.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template takes me to a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new options under form types Now around:
Contemplating paid programs such as Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to observe this amount of control over popup types.
And, like before, you can perform the styling options to get it Matched up with your branding.
Finally, you can choose the near Behavior of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
This is where most email Marketing platforms would render you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Data in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click info, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special reporting for this effort.
This is where you’ll discover a few more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary user…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of the report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also shows a click map, so It’s possible to see exactly how your readers interacted with your emails in relation to one another.
Reports for automations are Available under the’Automations’ tab, even though I found to be less enlightening than effort reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and many will get the available statistics more than sufficient to meet their demands.
What is email marketing with no dashboard of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this particular review.
The great news? If you’ve ever used a visual workflow builder, You will immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can not be said for each and every email marketing software.
After establishing your trigger, you can Start adding steps to your workflow.
These measures could be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a bubble break, or an act, such as transferring a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I put together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they don’t open my email within seven days.
There are innumerable Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign since it lacks some of the conditional elements. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.)
For example, there’s now no automation for moving Readers directly into a different automation.
That being said, the Majority of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various classes that activate new automation workflows. It is simply not as effective…. yet.
Another question of efficacy here is when creating new mails From the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email block to The workflow, you’ll be asked to put in your topic line which appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the critique.
This time, however, as Soon as You’ve established your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you straight back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending alternatives.
Finally, your email address will be Loaded into your automation.
A Wonderful touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation block, which means you can get an idea of what it contains at a glance.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on paper, it’s actually much quicker than what I’m utilized to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, so you will likely find this a downgrade in functionality.
It is quick enough for me, Personally, however I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there is one type of automation You will not find in MailerLite, and I think it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or measure ) based on the way Readers interact with the pages on your website.
This Sort of behavioral targeting only is not accessible MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or intend to use, you might want to skip this one. Miller Lite New Campaign
The cost of MailerLite is one of those tools biggest Selling things, and let’s face it, we all love a good bargain.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) for up to 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding on your mails using this program, it’s still an wonderful option for those starting out.
And what about the top programs?
It turns out, at approximately half the Price of this competition generally, MailerLite is by far among the cheapest options on the market. Additionally, if you’re willing to pay yearly, you can also get a much better discount.
In fact, I have not been able to locate anything that does the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of the email marketing tools The (very crowded) industry in the last couple of years, which is no simple feat.
While it is not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and at a price point you will seriously struggle to conquer.
