Introduction Newsletter Sender
When I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what would you say? Newsletter Sender
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online businesses now, email marketing has been Dominated by the identical big players for the previous ten years. Which means that they get encouraged very deeply and achieve a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, causing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So today, in this short article, I’ll be ripping MailerLite from limb To limb to find out whether it stands its ground against the big boys…
…and, what’s more, whether youshould consider making the change.

Like most email advertising providers Nowadays, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the software.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information like your company name, site, Business, address, company size, list size and even the kind of content you intend to send.
Then, you need to verify your Website (or domain name).
This remains part of this approval process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is associated to this domain so they can email you a confirmation link.
Once you’ve completed these Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, check your Site, and ascertain whether you are a fantastic fit for their service.
(Quite simply, they’re making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and play with the attributes, but you will not be able to send anything before approved.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these steps are not ideal for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from damaging everyone else’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to handle The majority of your email marketing.
(We will get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But whether it is a new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always some excuse to send a more instant email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Create Campaign’ will give you several choices.
– Regular campaign: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Versions, including subject line, from name and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Do not open your broadcast email, together with the option of changing the subject line and email articles.
– RSS effort: Create a recurring campaign That sends new content to readers using your website’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few added options, most of these will follow Exactly the same step-by-step process of a standard campaign.
So let’s walk you through it.
As Soon as You click to create your effort, you’ll be requested to Select a preferred editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can switch to the Templates tab and choose from among their pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor .
In the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to select From which is somewhat on the low side, but the layouts are super modern.
And, of course, if you’d just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I’ll select the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the cubes in the sidebar to add distinct Kinds of content to your email, including videos, product columns, and societal links.
After making your adjustments, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be carried to the recipients’ options where you can select your groups or sections.
The advanced tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules , in the event your targeting isn’t quite right.
Finally, right before sending, then you’ll get to the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, if that’s immediately, at a set time/date, or according to your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Newsletter Sender
Managing Your Clients
Possessing granular control over your subscribers is arguably among The most important facets of any email advertising program now.
Because highly personalized campaigns are necessary if You’re looking to increase opens, clicks, and, above all, your conversions.
And while most providers allow you to”tag” subscribers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different strategy.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically rules.
Your readers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified rules, and are automatically inserted or eliminated accordingly.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even blend Principles, as well as another rule when the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for classes, and despite the difference in title, These act much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it.)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or through an Automation principle — which we’ll get to in a moment — and they have no value aside from what you call them.
As you start to use this platform, you’ll Start to understand At which Segments and Groups are generally used, however, MailerLite offers a hand in the event you’re unsure:
Fundamentally, groups are more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple contributors collectively based on a frequent denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I’ll admit… but I feel it is a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. In any case, they are optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own areas, such as name, business, and nation.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your subscribers together with Your custom field data in distinct columns… or may easily add these fields to a forms which will only apply to future subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added to a form:
I won’t go too much into the form Stuff here because I have an entire section on that below, but this is the approach I’d recommend if you wanted to use this feature.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field data from new Readers, you can pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Customized field.
I am barely scraping the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it’s important that you understand this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it’s reasonable to say MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on point. Newsletter Sender
If you are not impressed by what you have seen so far, then perhaps The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, you’ll be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Isn’t winning any awards, it does offer a fantastic foundation to work from if, like the majority of us, you don’t have that pure eye for layout.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, though They ultimately do the identical task; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further construct or change your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual page builders, and this is already better than some dedicated alternatives *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero segments, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
It will not be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all three form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite really Provides a Adequate set of type building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there’s a lot to cover here.
Let us begin with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then place on your website to show it on specific pages.
Despite beginning super basic, the form designer allows you To customize everything from the kind style, fields, background, name, enter fields and, of course, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which Provides you a chance To visualize your copy in real time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there is more to some form than just its physical appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure the way the Form works, including adding extra fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is even a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, That can replace the embedded form also prevents users from redirecting.
Last but surely not least, you Can check how your form screens on cellular by shifting the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t be able to make any design changes here, but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of this Embedded form but as I said before, you may also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the installation process is identical, there are Still a few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth selection, they do provide a fantastic base to work from and the editor is at least as simple to use with this form kind.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template requires me into a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new choices under form types This time around:
Considering paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this level of control over popup types.
And, like before, you can play the styling options to get it Matched with your branding.
Finally, you can Select the near Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have .
That is where most email Marketing platforms would render you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Data in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber development, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special reporting for this campaign.
This is where you’ll discover some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading surroundings, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary user…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of the report to get a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Mail’ tab also shows a click map, so You can see your readers interacted with your mails compared to another.
Reports for automations will also be Available under the’Automations’ tab, though I found to be less insightful than campaign reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and most will find the available statistics more than sufficient to fulfill their needs.
What’s email advertising with no dashboard of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this review.
The great news? If you have used a visual workflow builder, You will immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is easy, clean and simple to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for each and every email advertising program.
After establishing your trigger, you can Start adding measures to your workflow.
These steps could be anything from sending an email, including a Delay, a bubble break, or an action, like moving a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within seven days.
There are innumerable Possibilities in regards to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite ought to not have any trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign since it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.)
For Instance, there’s now no automation for moving Subscribers directly into a different automation.
That being said, most of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that activate new automation workflows. It is just not as efficient…. yet.
Another matter of efficacy here is when generating new mails In the automation workflow builder.
After having an email cube to The workflow, you’ll be asked to add your subject line which then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the critique.
This time, but once you’ve established your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back into the automations workflow instead of the usual sending options.
Finally, your email address will probably be Loaded into your own automation.
A Wonderful touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation block, which means you can find an concept about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on paper, it’s really much quicker than what I am utilized to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, so you’ll likely find this a downgrade in functionality.
It’s fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there is 1 type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or measure ) based on how Readers interact with all the webpages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting only isn’t accessible MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or intend to utilize, you might want to skip this one. Newsletter Sender
The Price of MailerLite is no doubt among the tools largest Selling points, and let’s face it, we all love a fantastic deal.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All features (including premium) to get as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding on your emails using this plan, it’s still an amazing option for anyone starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It turns out, at approximately half of the Price of this competition on average, MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the cheapest options on the industry. Additionally, if you are ready to pay yearly, you can also get a much greater discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among those few advertising tools to interrupt The (very crowded) industry in the last couple of years, and that’s no easy feat.
While it is not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and all at a price point you will seriously struggle to conquer.
Thinking of giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you From the remarks. Newsletter Sender
