If I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what would you say? Socketlabs
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online businesses today, email marketing has been Dominated by the identical large players for the previous ten years. Which means that they get promoted very heavily and achieve a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, causing long-time customers to question their loyalties.

Like most email marketing providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the program.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information like your company name, site, Business, address, company size, record size and also the type of content you intend to send.
Then, you need to verify your Site (or domain name).
This remains part of this approval process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is associated to that domain so they could email you a confirmation link.
Once you’ve completed these Steps, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, check your Website, and determine whether you’re a good fit for their service.
(In other words, they are making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and perform with the attributes, but you will not have the ability to send anything until accepted.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
However, while these steps are not ideal for getting started, it Does help prevent unscrupulous users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to handle The majority of your email marketing.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, don’t worry.)
But if it is a brand new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more instant email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Produce Campaign’ will provide you several choices.
– Regular campaign: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Versions, such as subject line, from title and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Do not start your broadcast email, together with the choice of altering the subject line and email content.
– RSS effort: Create a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to readers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added choices, most of these will follow Exactly the same step-by-step procedure of a normal effort.
So let’s walk you through it.
Once you click to create your effort, you’ll be asked to Pick a favorite editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can switch to the Templates tab and select from among their pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor .
At the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to choose From which is a little on the low side, however, the layouts are super modern.
And, of course, if you would just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I’ll select the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to use, Which makes viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to include different Kinds of content to your email, including videos, product columns, and societal links.
After making your changes, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be taken to the recipients’ choices where you are able to select your classes or segments.
The tab also allows you To build segment-like rules , in case your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, whether that is instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Socketlabs
Managing Your Clients
Possessing granular control over your subscribers is arguably one of The most important facets of any email advertising program now.
Because highly personalized campaigns are necessary if You are looking to increase clicks, opens, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while many providers allow you to”label” subscribers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different approach.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll see two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially principles.
Your subscribers belong to a section only when they fulfill the Specified principles, and are automatically inserted or removed accordingly.
Here is what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice how you can also blend Rules, as well as another rule when the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for groups, and also the difference in name, These act much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it)
Unlike Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or through an Automation principle — that we’ll get into in a minute — and they don’t have any value aside from what you call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, but MailerLite offers a hand in case you’re uncertain:
Fundamentally, groups are more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments allow you to bulge multiple contributors together according to a frequent denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I will admit… but I believe it’s a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. In any case, they are optional.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their particular fields, such as title, company, and country.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your subscribers together with Your custom field data in separate columns… or can easily add these fields to a types which will only apply to future subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added to a form:
I won’t go too much into the form Things here because I have a whole section on that below, but this is the approach I’d recommend if you wanted to use this feature.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field data from new Subscribers, you are able to pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Custom field.
I’m barely scraping the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it’s important that you understand this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it is fair to say MailerLite has their contributor Management and personalization features on stage. Socketlabs
If you are not impressed with what you have seen up to Now, then maybe The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, you will be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Isn’t winning any awards, it does offer a great base to work from if, for example the majority people, you don’t have that natural eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, though They all ultimately do the same task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further construct or alter your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual site builders, and this is already better than a few dedicated alternatives *Infection * WPBakery.
Together with the basic building blocks, you can use components like Hero sections, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
It won’t be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all three form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually offers a Decent set of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there is a whole lot to cover .
Let us begin with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then put on your site to show it on particular pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer lets you To personalize everything from the form style, subjects, background, name, input fields and, of course, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which Provides you a Opportunity To envision your own backup in real time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there is more to a form than simply its appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure how the Form works, such as adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is even a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success page…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, Which will replace the embedded kind and prevents users .
Last but surely not least, you Can check the way your form displays on mobile by switching the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t be able to make any layout changes , but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of the Embedded form but like I said before, you may even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of this installation process is identical, there are A few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive choice, they do provide a fantastic foundation to work from and the editor is just as easy to use with this form kind.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template takes me to a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new choices under form types Now around:
Considering paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to see this level of control over popup forms.
And, as before, you can play the styling options to get it Matched up with your own branding.
Last, you can Select the close Behavior of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have .
That is really where most email Marketing platforms will leave you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Data in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you special coverage for that campaign.
This is where you’ll discover a few statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of the report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Mail’ tab also displays a click map, so It’s possible to see how your subscribers interacted to another.
Reports for automations are also Available under the’Automations’ tab, though I found to be less insightful than effort reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and many will get the available data more than enough to fulfill their needs.
What’s email advertising with no dash of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this review.
The great news? If you’ve ever used a visual workflow builder, then You will instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is easy, clean and simple to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for each and every email advertising program.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding steps to your workflow.
These steps can be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a conditional split, or an action, like transferring a contributor or upgrading their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional elements. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.)
For example, there’s now no automation for transferring Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, most of these activities can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into different classes that activate new automation workflows. It’s simply not as efficient…. yet.
Another question of efficacy here is when creating new mails From the automation workflow builder.
After having an email cube to The workflow, you’ll be asked to put in your topic line that appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the critique.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve created your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you straight back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending alternatives.
Finally, your email address will be Loaded into your automation.
A Wonderful touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation block, so it’s possible to find an idea of what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on paper, it’s actually much faster than what I am used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, so you’ll likely find that this downgrade in functionality.
It is quick enough for me, Personally, however I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there is one Kind of automation You will not find in MailerLite, also I think it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or measure ) based on how Subscribers interact with all the pages on your site.
This kind of behavioral targeting only is not accessible MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or plan to use, you may want to skip this one. Socketlabs
The Price of MailerLite is one of the tools biggest Selling points, and let us face it, we all love a fantastic bargain.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) for up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding on your emails using this plan, it’s still an amazing option for those starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It ends up, at approximately half of the Cost of this competition generally, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the least expensive options on the market. Additionally, if you are willing to pay annually, you are also able to get an even better discount.
In Reality, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of those few email advertising tools to disrupt The (very crowded) industry in recent decades, and that’s no easy feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
All in all, I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and all at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to beat.
Thinking about giving it a spin? Let us know how it works for you In the remarks. Socketlabs
