Background Suite 26
If I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what would you say? Suite 26
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online businesses today, email advertising continues to be Dominated by the same large players for the last ten years. Which means they get promoted very heavily and achieve a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, inducing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.
So today, in this review, I’ll be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to find out whether it really stands its own ground against the big boys…

Like most email marketing providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the software.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information such as your organization name, site, Industry, address, business size, list size and also the kind of material you plan to send.
Then, you need to verify your Website (or domain ).
This remains part of this acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is associated to this domain so they could email you a confirmation link.
Once you’ve completed these Steps, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, assess your Site, and determine whether you’re a good fit for their services.
(In other words, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to make campaigns and perform with the features, but you won’t be able to send anything before approved.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
However, while these measures are not perfect for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to Deal with The majority of your email advertising.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, don’t worry.)
But if it’s a new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always some excuse to send a more instant email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Create Campaign’ will give you several options.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Variations, such as subject line, from title and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not start your broadcast email, with the choice of altering the subject line and email content.
– RSS campaign: Produce a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to readers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few additional choices, the Majority of these will follow Exactly the same step-by-step process of a normal effort.
So let us walk you through it.
As Soon as You click to create your effort, you’ll be requested to Pick a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can switch to the Templates tab and choose from one of their pre-designed email templates — that will move you to the dragn’ drop editor by default.
In the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to select From which is somewhat on the low side, but the designs are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you would just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I’ll choose the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Making viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to include distinct Types of content to your email, such as videos, merchandise columns, and social links.
After making your adjustments, just click’Done Editing’ and you will Be taken to the recipients’ choices where you can choose your groups or sections.
The tab also allows you To build segment-like rules on-the-fly, in the event your targeting isn’t quite right.
Finally, right before sending, you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, if that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Suite 26
Handling Your Clients
Having granular control over your readers is arguably among The most important facets of any email advertising software today.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You’re searching to increase clicks, opens, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while most providers Permit You to”tag” readers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different approach.
When you start up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll see two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your subscribers belong to a segment only when they meet the Specified rules, and will be automatically added or eliminated accordingly.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice how you can also blend Rules, as well as an alternate rule when the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for groups, and despite the difference in title, These act much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it.)
Unlike Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or via an Automation rule — which we will get into in a minute — and they don’t have any value aside from what you call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are generally used, however, MailerLite offers a hand in the event you’re uncertain:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to bulge multiple contributors together according to a frequent denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I’ll admit… but I believe it’s a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. Besides, they are optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their particular fields, such as title, company, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers along with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or can simply add these fields to a types which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added to a form:
I won’t go too much into the form Stuff here because I have a whole section on that below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wanted to use this attribute.
Again, as Soon as You’ve collected your custom field information from fresh Subscribers, you are able to pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I’m barely scraping the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it’s important that you know this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it’s reasonable to say MailerLite has their contributor Management and personalization features on stage. Suite 26
If you are not impressed with what you’ve seen so far, then perhaps The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, then you will be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, it does offer a fantastic base to work from if, like the majority people, you do not have that pure eye for layout.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, however They finally do the identical job; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further construct or alter your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual page builders, and this is already better than some dedicated alternatives *Infection * WPBakery.
Together with the basic building blocks, you can use components like Hero sections, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
No, it won’t be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all three form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite actually Provides a Adequate set of type building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there’s a lot to cover .
Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then put on your website to show it on particular pages.
Despite beginning super fundamental, the form designer lets you To personalize everything from the form style, fields, background, title, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which gives you a Opportunity To envision your own copy in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there is more to a form than just its appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure the way the Form works, including adding extra fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And talking of the success page…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, That will replace the embedded kind also prevents users .
Last but certainly not least, you Can assess how your form displays on mobile by switching the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any layout changes , but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that’s an overview of the Embedded form but as I said before, you can also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of this setup Procedure is identical, there are Still a few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive selection, they do offer a good base to work from and the editor is just as simple to use for this form kind.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template takes me to a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new options under form types Now around:
Considering paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup types.
And, like before, you can perform with the styling options to get it Matched up with your own branding.
Last, you can choose the close Behavior of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text choice, or have both.
This is where most email Marketing platforms will render you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click info, Subscriber development, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you specific coverage for that campaign.
This is where you’ll find some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into individual areas of this report to get a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also displays a click map, so It’s possible to see your readers interacted to one another.
Reports for automations will also be Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, although I found these to be less enlightening than effort reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and many will get the available statistics more than sufficient to meet their demands.
What’s email marketing with no dash of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this review.
The good news? If you’ve used a visual workflow builder, then You will immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is easy, clean and easy to navigate — something which certainly can not be said for every email advertising program.
After setting your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These measures could be anything from sending an email, including a Postpone, a conditional split, or an action, such as moving a subscriber or upgrading their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign since it lacks a number of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.)
For Instance, there’s currently no automation for moving Readers directly into a different automation.
That being said, the Majority of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different classes that trigger new automation workflows. It is simply much less effective…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when generating new mails From the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email block to The workflow, you’ll be asked to add your subject line which appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the review.
This time, however, once you’ve established your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you back into the automations workflow rather than the usual sending alternatives.
Finally, your email will be Loaded into your own automation.
A Wonderful touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation cube, so you can find an idea about what it contains at a glance.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on paper, it is actually much quicker than what I’m utilized to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, you will likely find that this downgrade in functionality.
It is quick enough for me, Personally, but I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there is one Kind of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, also I think it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or measure ) based on the way Readers interact with all the webpages on your website.
This Sort of behavioral targeting only is not accessible MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or plan to use, you might want to skip this one. Suite 26
The cost of MailerLite is undoubtedly among those tools biggest Selling things, and let us face it, we all love a fantastic bargain.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) for up to 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding in your mails using this program, it’s still an amazing alternative for those starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It ends up, at approximately half the Price of this competition on average, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the least expensive options available on the industry. Additionally, if you are willing to pay yearly, you can also get an even better discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of the few advertising tools to disrupt The (very crowded) industry in recent decades, and that’s no easy feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and all at a price point you will seriously struggle to conquer.
Thinking about giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you From the remarks. Suite 26
