Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, causing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.
So today, in this review, I’ll be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to find out whether it stands its ground against the big boys…
…and, what’s more, whether youshould consider making the change.

When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information like your organization name, website, Industry, address, company size, record size and even the kind of content you intend to send.

This is still part of the acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is related to this domain so they can email you a verification link.

Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation principle — that we will get into in a minute — and they have no value aside from what you call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in the event you’re uncertain:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple contributors together based on a frequent denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I will admit… but I believe it’s a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. In any case, they are discretionary.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own areas, such as name, company, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your subscribers along with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or may easily add these fields to your types which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added into a form:
I will not go too much into the shape Things here because I have an entire section on that below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wanted to use this attribute.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field data from fresh Subscribers, you can pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I am barely scraping the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it is important to understand this is a feature you can use.

If you’re not impressed with what you have seen so far, then maybe The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, then you will be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, it does offer a great base to work from if, for example most people, you do not have that pure eye for layout.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, though They finally do the same task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or change your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual site builders, and it is already better than some dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Along with the fundamental building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
It won’t be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite really offers a Adequate set of form building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there’s a lot to cover here.
Let’s begin with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then place on your website to display it on specific pages.

While the majority of the installation process is identical, there are A few differences I’d like to point out.

While this isn’t the most In depth selection, they do provide a good foundation to work from and the editor is at least as easy to use with this form type.

Considering paid programs such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to observe this amount of control over popup forms.

Finally, you can choose the close Behavior of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text choice, or have both.
This is really where most email Marketing platforms will render you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click info, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special reporting for this campaign.
This is where you’ll find some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying surroundings, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average user…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of the report for a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Email’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see how your readers interacted with your emails compared to one another.
Reports for automations are also Available under the’Automations’ tab, even though I found to be less enlightening than effort reports.

Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and many will get the available data more than sufficient to meet their needs.
What’s email marketing with no dash of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this review.
The good news? If you have used a visual workflow builder, You’ll instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something which certainly can not be said for every email advertising program.
After setting your trigger, you can begin adding measures to your workflow.
These measures could be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a bubble break, or an act, such as moving a subscriber or upgrading their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within seven days.
There are countless Possibilities in regards to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks a number of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.)
For example, there’s currently no automation for transferring Readers directly into another automation.
That being said, the Majority of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that trigger new automation workflows. It is simply not as efficient…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when generating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After having an email cube to The workflow, you’ll be asked to put in your topic line that appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the critique.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve established your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending alternatives.
Ultimately, your email address will probably be Loaded into your automation.
A nice touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation cube, so it’s possible to get an concept of what it contains at a glimpse.

The cost of MailerLite is one of the tools biggest Selling points, and let’s face it, we all love a fantastic bargain.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) for as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding on your mails using this plan, it is still an wonderful alternative for those starting out.
And what about the premium plans?
It turns out, at around half the Cost of the rivalry on average, MailerLite is by far one of the least expensive options on the market. Additionally, if you’re ready to pay annually, you are also able to get a much better discount.
In fact, I have not been able to find anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of those email marketing tools The (very crowded) sector in recent years, and that’s no easy feat.
While it’s not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
All in all, I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and all at a price point you will seriously struggle to conquer.
