Introduction What Is Mailerlite
If I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what could you say? What Is Mailerlite
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online industries now, email advertising continues to be Dominated by the same large players for the previous decade. Which means they get encouraged very deeply and achieve a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, inducing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So today, in this short article, I’ll be ripping MailerLite from limb To limb to find out if it really stands its own ground against the big boys…

Like most email advertising providers these days, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the program.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, website, Business, address, company size, list size and even the type of material you plan to send.
Then, you need to verify your Site (or domain name).
This is still part of this approval process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is associated to that domain so they can email you a verification link.
As Soon as You’ve completed these Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, check your Website, and ascertain whether you’re a good fit for their service.
(Quite simply, they are making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and perform with the attributes, but you will not have the ability to send anything until accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
However, while these measures aren’t ideal for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from hurting everyone else’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to Deal with The majority of your email marketing.
(We will get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But if it’s a new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Create Campaign’ will give you several choices.
– Regular effort: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Variations, including subject line, from title and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Do not start your broadcast email, with the choice of changing the subject line and email content.
– RSS campaign: Create a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to subscribers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added choices, most of these will follow Exactly the exact same step-by-step process of a normal campaign.
So let’s walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your effort, you’ll be asked to Pick a favorite editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can change to the Templates tab and select from among their pre-designed email templates — that will move you to the dragn’ drop editor by default.
In the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to choose From which is a little on the low side, however, the designs are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you’d just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I will choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to use, Making customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the blocks in the sidebar to add different Types of articles to your email, including videos, product columns, and societal connections.
After making your adjustments, just click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be carried to the recipients’ choices where you are able to choose your groups or segments.
The advanced tab also allows one To develop segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, if that’s immediately, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? What Is Mailerlite
Handling Your Subscribers
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably among The most essential aspects of any email advertising software today.
Because highly personalized campaigns are necessary if You’re searching to increase opens, clicks, and, above all, your conversions.
And while most providers Permit You to”label” subscribers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different strategy.
When you start up your subscriber dash, you’ll see two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially principles.
Your subscribers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified principles, and will be automatically added or eliminated accordingly.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even blend Rules, as well as another rule if the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for classes, and despite the difference in title, These act much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but finally decided against it.)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation rule — which we’ll get to in a minute — and they have no value aside from what you call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, but MailerLite delivers a hand in case you’re unsure:
Fundamentally, groups are more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple contributors together based on a common denominator.
A tad confusing, I will admit… but I believe it’s a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. In any case, they are discretionary.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own areas, such as name, business, and nation.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your readers along with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or may easily add these fields to your types which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added into a form:
I won’t go too much into the form Stuff here because I have a whole section on this below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wished to use this feature.
Again, once you’ve collected your custom field information from fresh Readers, you can pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Customized field.
I’m barely scraping the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it is important that you know this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it’s reasonable to state MailerLite has their contributor Management and personalization features on stage. What Is Mailerlite
If you’re not impressed by what you have seen so far, then perhaps The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, you’ll be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Isn’t winning any awards, but it will offer a great foundation to work from if, for example most of us, you don’t have that natural eye for layout.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, however They finally do the same task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or change your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual page builders, and it is already better than some dedicated alternatives *cough* WPBakery.
Together with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero segments, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
No, it will not be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually Provides a Adequate pair of type building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there is a whole lot to cover here.
Let’s start with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then place on your site to display it on specific pages.
Despite starting off super fundamental, the form designer lets you To personalize everything from the kind style, fields, background, name, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which gives you a Opportunity To envision your own backup in real time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there is more to some form than just its appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form works, such as adding additional fields and setting a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And talking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, That will replace the embedded kind also prevents users .
Last but surely not least, you Can assess the way your form displays on mobile by shifting the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any design changes , but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that’s an overview of the Embedded form but like I said before, you may also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of this installation process is identical, there are Still a few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth selection, they do offer a good base to work from and the editor is at least as simple to use for this form type.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template requires me to a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new options under form types This time around:
Considering paid tools like Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this level of control over popup types.
And, like before, you can perform with the styling options to get it Matched with your own branding.
Last, you can choose the near Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text choice, or have .
That is where most email Marketing platforms would leave you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Data in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click data, Subscriber development, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you specific coverage for that effort.
This is where you’ll discover a few statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading surroundings, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into individual areas of the report to get a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Mail’ tab also displays a click map, so It’s possible to see your readers interacted to one another.
Reports for automations will also be Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, even although I found these to be less insightful than campaign reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and most will get the available data more than enough to meet their needs.
What is email advertising with no dashboard of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this particular review.
The good news? If you have used a visual workflow builder, then You will immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for every email marketing program.
After establishing your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These steps could be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a conditional split, or an act, like moving a subscriber or upgrading their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where readers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign since it lacks a number of the conditional elements. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.)
For example, there’s currently no automation for moving Readers directly into another automation.
That being said, most of these activities can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that trigger new automation workflows. It is just not as effective…. yet.
Another matter of efficacy here is when creating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After having an email block to The workflow, you will be asked to add your subject line that appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the critique.
This time, but once you’ve established your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email address will probably be Loaded into your automation.
A nice touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation cube, which means you can get an idea of what it contains at a glimpse.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on paper, it is really much quicker than what I’m used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, so you will probably find that this downgrade in performance.
It’s quick enough for me, Personally, but I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there’s 1 type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on the way Subscribers interact with all the pages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting only isn’t available in MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or plan to use, you might want to skip this one. What Is Mailerlite
The Price of MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the tools biggest Selling things, and let us face it, most of us love a good deal.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding on your mails using this program, it is still an amazing alternative for those starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It turns out, at around half of the Cost of the rivalry generally, MailerLite is by far one of the cheapest options on the industry. Additionally, if you’re ready to pay annually, you are also able to get an even better discount.
In Reality, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does exactly the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of the few email marketing tools The (very crowded) sector in the last couple of decades, which is no simple feat.
While it’s not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
Overall, I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and all at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to beat.
Thinking of giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you From the remarks. What Is Mailerlite
