When I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what would you say? What Is Opt In Email Marketing
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online industries now, email marketing has been Dominated by the identical big players for the previous ten years. Which means that they get promoted very heavily and achieve a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, causing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.
So today, in this short article, I’ll be ripping MailerLite from limb To limb to see if it stands its own ground against the big boys…
…and, more importantly, whether youshould consider making the change.

Like most email marketing providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your organization name, website, Industry, address, company size, record size and even the kind of content you intend to send.
Then, you need to confirm your Site (or domain name).
This is still part of the acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is related to that domain in order that they can email you a verification link.
As Soon as You’ve completed these Measures, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Website, and determine whether you’re a good fit for their services.
(In other words, they are making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to use the software to make campaigns and perform with the attributes, but you will not have the ability to send anything until accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these measures are not ideal for getting started, it Does help prevent unscrupulous users from hurting everyone else’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to handle The majority of your email advertising.
(We will get to automations shortly, do not worry.)
But if it is a brand new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always some excuse to send a more immediate email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Create Campaign’ will provide you several options.
– Regular campaign: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Variations, including subject line, from name and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Don’t open your broadcast email, together with the option of changing the subject line and email articles.
– RSS campaign: Create a recurring campaign That sends new content to readers using your website’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added choices, the Majority of these will follow The same step-by-step procedure of a normal effort.
So let’s walk you through it.
Once you click to create your effort, you’ll be requested to Select a preferred editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can switch to the Templates tab and choose from one of their pre-designed email templates — that will move you to the dragn’ drop editor .
In the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to choose From which is somewhat on the low side, however, the layouts are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you would just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I’ll choose the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to add distinct Kinds of content to your email, including videos, product columns, and social connections.
After making your changes, just click’Done Editing’ and you will Be carried to the recipients’ options where you are able to select your classes or sections.
The tab also allows you To build segment-like rules , in case your targeting isn’t quite right.
Finally, right before sending, then you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, if that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or according to your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? What Is Opt In Email Marketing
Handling Your Clients
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably among The most important aspects of any email advertising program today.
Because highly personalized campaigns Are Essential if You are searching to increase opens, clicks, and, most importantly, your conversions.
And while most providers allow you to”tag” subscribers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different approach.
When you start up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll see two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your readers belong to a section only when they fulfill the Specified principles, and are automatically added or removed so.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can also combine Principles, in addition to another rule if the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for classes, and also the difference in name, These behave much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it.)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or through an Automation rule — that we’ll get to in a moment — and they don’t have any value aside from what you actually call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand Where Segments and Groups are generally used, but MailerLite offers a hand in case you’re unsure:
Fundamentally, groups are much more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to bulge multiple subscribers collectively based on a common denominator.
A tad confusing, I will admit… but I feel it’s a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. In any case, they’re optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their particular fields, such as title, business, and nation.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your subscribers along with Your custom field information in separate columns… or can simply add these fields to your forms which will only apply to prospective readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added into a form:
I won’t go too much to the shape Things here since I have a whole section on that below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wished to use this feature.
Again, once you’ve collected your custom field data from fresh Readers, you are able to pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Custom field.
I’m barely scratching the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it is important that you understand this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it’s reasonable to state MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on stage. What Is Opt In Email Marketing
If you’re not impressed with what you’ve seen so far, then maybe The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, then you’ll be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Is not winning any awards, it will offer a fantastic base to work from if, like the majority people, you do not have that natural eye for layout.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, however They finally do the same task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further construct or alter your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual page builders, and this is better than a few dedicated solutions *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero segments, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
It won’t be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all 3 form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite really offers a Decent set of type building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there’s a lot to cover here.
Let’s start with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then place on your site to display it on particular pages.
Despite beginning super fundamental, the form designer allows you To customize everything from the kind style, subjects, background, name, enter fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which gives you a Opportunity To visualize your copy in real-time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there’s more to a form than just its appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure the way the Form functions, such as adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And talking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, Which will replace the embedded form and prevents users from redirecting.
Last but surely not least, you Can assess the way your form displays on mobile by shifting the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any design changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that’s an overview of this Embedded form but like I said before, you can even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of the setup process is identical, you will find Still a few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive choice, they do provide a good foundation to work from and the editor is just as simple to use for this form kind.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template takes me to a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new options under form types Now around:
Contemplating paid tools like Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this level of control over popup forms.
And, as before, you can play the styling options to get it Matched with your branding.
Finally, you can Select the near Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have .
This is really where most email Marketing platforms would render you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Data in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click info, Subscriber development, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you specific coverage for that effort.
This is where you’ll find a few statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of the report to get a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Email’ tab also displays a click map, so It’s possible to see your readers interacted to one another.
Reports for automations are Available under the’Automations’ tab, though I found these to be less insightful than effort reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and most will find the available data more than sufficient to fulfill their needs.
What’s email advertising with no dash of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this review.
The great news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, then You’ll instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is easy, clean and simple to navigate — something that certainly can not be said for every email advertising software.
After establishing your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These measures can be anything from sending an email, including a Delay, a conditional split, or an act, like transferring a contributor or upgrading their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within seven days.
There are innumerable Possibilities in regards to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign since it lacks a number of the conditional components. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.)
For Instance, there’s now no automation for transferring Readers directly into another automation.
That being said, most of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that activate new automation workflows. It’s just much less effective…. yet.
Another matter of efficiency here is when creating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email block to The workflow, you’ll be asked to add your subject line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the review.
This time, however, once you’ve established your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Finally, your email will probably be Loaded into your own automation.
A nice touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation cube, which means you can find an idea about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on paper, it is really much quicker than what I am used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, so you’ll likely find that this downgrade in functionality.
It is fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there is 1 type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and that I think that it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on the way Readers interact with the webpages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting only isn’t available in MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or intend to utilize, you may want to skip this one. What Is Opt In Email Marketing
The cost of MailerLite is no doubt one of the tools largest Selling points, and let us face it, most of us love a good deal.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) to get as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding on your mails using this program, it’s still an wonderful alternative for those starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It ends up, at approximately half the Price of the competition generally, MailerLite is by far among the cheapest options on the industry. Plus, if you’re ready to pay yearly, you can also get an even greater discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to find anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among the very few advertising tools The (very crowded) industry in recent years, and that’s no simple feat.
While it’s not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
Overall, I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and all at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to conquer.
